For a long time I've been using All detergent for my laundry, but I find I keep having to use more than it says. I end up going through it pretty fast. Last week I got a sample of a detergent called Persil and it worked really well on my laundry, but before running out to buy a bottle next month after my All runs out, I thought I'd see if any of you fine folks have recommendations for brands I should give a try.

Also, whats your take on those weird bead things they sell now to go with your detergent, like these:

I'm assuming they are just extra perfuming things and I don't think I need that I don't think.

What kind of washing machine are you using? Are you using liquid detergent or powder? Have you tried the detergent pods? What kind of stains are you trying to get out?

I use all free and clear, and I don't have much of an issue using just one pod per load, but it changes to two if I'm using a larger capacity machine or heavily soiled items. I don't normally use softner because I hate the flowery scents. I like my laundry smelling like fresh laundry.

Now does anyone have a suggestion for getting grease stains out of shirts? One little splatter of food on my shirt and I forever have a grease stain on it. I never buy white stuff because it never seems to get clean.

Laundry detergent pods are the best thing ever. I just throw one in and I'm done. And it keeps from going through sticky detergent too fast.

Try using Shout or Spray N Wash. It's hard to find but it makes all stains, even grease stains, disappear. They sell Shout at Costco.

I use Woolite and Tide along with Clorox 2. It works fine for me. Those beads just smell good though.

I usually get what's on sale at Costco. Those blood stains aren't coming off anyways...

I use Tide with the light blue Downy Unstoppables. Those Downy things are amazing! Just don't use them with your bedsheets (or use a lot less) as they can be a bit overpowering when you got your head right on the pillowcase.

Tide is worth the extra money. Clothes actually feel clean using it.

I've never tried the pods before, and only ever used powdered detergent once before.

My washing machine is a Frigidaire.

Gain - Regular

Easy.

I've worked in many restaurants for many hours and have worn the same clothes days in a row and at every single one - I'd say seven in the last five years - on day two or three I'd have someone go "Wow, you smell good." not realizing Ive been wearing the same clothes. Gain regular and Gain fabric softener and Gain dryer sheets will make you smell great.

I usually use All or Purex. I don't seem to have any problems with clothes coming out dirty, even though I usually use less than is recommended.

I don't use any fabric softener, just dryer sheets. About half the time I use two dryer sheets. I try not to have my clothes too perfumy.

Tide pods + OxiClean booster packs + Clorox (2, for colors) packs

We use the free & clear Tide pods with the OxiClean booster packs and no Clorox packs for baby laundry.

Cheap & effective without having to buy a totally new product? Dishwashing liquid, such as Dawn. Pretreat it with that diluted in a little water.

If you're working with whites, try adding some hydrogen peroxide solution as well.

Always, always, always spot test a hidden area of your garment before applying anything to a visible spot.

I have joint problem, so my sheets are forever covered in oily substances (Tiger Balm, mostly), and a squirt of Blue Dawn in the wash gets all of it out.

We use Tide Free Pods, double for large loads or heavily soiled items, with OxyClean or Borax as a booster if needed. Clorox splashless on Whites as needed. White vinegar as a fabric softener for line-dried delicates or a defunk mechanic for anything that isn't soft and fluffy that should be, like towels. Dryer sheers for whatever goes in there. Works pretty good in my opinion.

I've used those beads before - they're ideal with an unscented detergent and are basically just scent and a dissolvable wax.

I've been using Nellie's for the last couple of years and have about a third of the tub left:

It's been great, and worked better than I expected for a hypoallergenic detergent (the kids were getting mild rashes before).

Definitely the best stuff, pricey though so i only buy it when its on offer

We make our own:

1 cup Borax
1 cup Washing soda
2-3oz laundry soap flakes

Incredibly cheap, all ingredients can be found at Walmart or similar, good for your skin, and can be used in regular or HE machines.

My aunt uses those spray bottles like crazy. I do not have her patients to spot treat every shirt before throwing it in. My biggest problem is never noticing the stains before washing them. I want something that'll work whether I see it or not. I really like the Tide pods, but they're really expensive compared to the other brands.

We don't have laundry hook ups in our apartment. We usually lug our dirty clothes to family's house or the laundromat. The one set of machines they provide here are crap and expensive. We only use them when we really need something clean.

I always heard that Tide spends more money in R&D for their detergent than any other company, and by a significant margin. So I guess if you want the best detergent, Tide should likely be your choice.

Yeah, they're just for extra scent. There are signs in my apartment building's laundry room saying not to use them because they will damage the machines, so I don't really know.

Whatever detergent you use add in a bit of borax to help clean better or some vinegar if you're trying to get rid of smells (e.g. towels that have been damp for a while).

I've been using Tide Coldwater for bit, but I haven't been happy with it—it leaves my clothes with a slight weird smell and sometimes whitish/grayish gunk on them, so I'm looking for something else too.
