Layoffs at IGN

Am I right that the large bulk of IGNs traffic (and relevance) these days is from their walkthrus and guides?

If so it makes sense that they're gutting their news section. Why waste the money on something nobody reads.

The articles actively hurt their reputation sometimes with devs and often times with consumers. They lack a ton of credibility as a brand as the years wane on do to their vanity politics and quick to segment/vilify a significant portion of the audience.

This makes sense why they would steer towards the neutral content like walkthroughs and guides.

And if anyone feels bad, remember they did this to themselves and for a decade+. They could have veered the ship at any point.

Not too surprising considering they just bought Eurogamer and other outlets.

I remember Kat from the 1up show she knows her stuff. Leaving IGN can only be a good thing tho.

Always is a big stretch.

I liked IGN back in the late 2000s and early 2010s era when I used to listen to Podcast Beyond and because they were the biggest game site with all the coverage.

They fell off a cliff like a decade ago around the time Colin and Greg left.

Now it's more movies and tv shows then games half of the time.

I agree with every word here

Anyone remember when IGN owned n64.com? That's actually how I discovered them.

Nothing of value was lost, really.
They, and only they did disservice to themselves when most of their crap content involve attacking gamers as if they were some kind of superiority on the gaming space. They couldn't even do their jobs properly.
Learn your place. You work for the gamers, not for yourselves. If there weren't gamers to buy games and moving the gaming industry you guys wouldn't even had your jobs.

I think I speak for everyone here when I say that I hope everyone affected by these layoffs land on their heads.
I never wish ill of those hit by layoffs. Generally, those that are laid off are those that had the least ability to make the decisions that could have prevented the layoffs. Layoffs suck.

Kat Bailey is pretty good and I like her on the Axe of the Blood God RPG podcast. It's moderately successful, and hopefully it's enough of an income supplement that she doesn't land in dire financial straits.

Man, I never got to fire anyone two weeks from Christmas. This is bullshit that this person gets the god damn chimerical unicorn so close to the holiday. I want to have that under my belt and on my resume.

Lucky son of a bitch will be able to tell this story at dinner parties for years while my best was 53 in one day. Screw this person and now Christmas.

Edit: Bitches better start learning to coal mine.

You're not speaking for anyone but yourself. I don't really like the output of sites like IGN, but I'll never wish ill on them. Losing your job can be extremely tough, especially in this economy, and doubly so this close to Christmas. If culture non-sense has you wishing warm to people, you need to take a step back and recalibrate, friend.

I really like Peer Schneider, the co-founder of IGN. He seems like a reasonable, very knowledgeable dude, and his love for Nintendo and retro games is something that I can definitely relate to. I also like their Game Scoop podcast, and its three main members, because it strays away from any political discussions and just focuses on the games (and, again, has a lot of segments on retro games and magazines). The podcast also has another recurring guest that seems like a fun genuine dude.
That's 5 people.

Other than that, it's truly depressing how every single one of their employees is absolute filth. Genuinely, a bunch of brain rotten garbage human beings, deranged psychos that hammer away on their oh-so-important message, their tongues numb from all the corporate bootlicking.

This bitch specifically made their Nintendo podcast unwatchable, together with her other mentally slow colleague. A couple of useless cunts that were only there to write hit pieces for the games that didn't comply with their right side of history.

An absolutely disgusting bunch. Good riddance, hopefully things will get even worse for them.

IGN gave Concord a 7/10. And they just gave Delta Force a 7/10 too.

You guys heard about the 6-10 scale for games, skim the Games Review lists. It's more like 7-9 scale.
