Third party controllers like 8bitdo have cheap $29.99 controllers. But MS has to be the ones to do cheap controllers with Direct to Cloud functionality.

This will likely be $29.99 to $34.99. All future regular or Elite controllers will have Cloud functionality built in.

Fuck, I just bought a basic ass Xbox controller to use with Geforce Now of all things....and now they are coming out with controllers with cloud functionality.

That being said I use Ethernet connection with the Xbox controller wired to the PC. I am skeptical the latency of this feature is better than that....

Why would it need an LCD when two small LEDs will get the job done?
Light the left LED and its in Cloud mode, light the right LED and its in Local mode.

Yea, LCD TVs or LED TVs have kinda gotten me used to using those terms interchangeably. But yes, LED visual indicator can be done without any LCD screen.

Although, I do kinda remember an MS patent that showed an entire LCD screen.

That Direct to Cloud wouldn't be usable with Nvidia GFN datacenters anyways.
It is meant for Xbox Cloud Gaming, the controller connects directly to Azure datacenters with xCloud server blades. Nvidia would have to create their own Cloud controller for their own datacenters, like Google did for Stadia and Amazon does for Luna. But Nvidia doesn't need it, they already have powerful hardware and Nvidia Reflex tech that provides the lowest latency in Cloud.

Wired will always provide best latency.

Wired = 0.25 MS or Less

Xbox Wireless Protocol = 3 MS

Bluetooth 5.2 = 12 MS roughly, Bluetooth used to be worse

Direct to Cloud reduces latency by bypassing the middle devices, connecting directly to Cloud via WiFi, it cuts down on overall latency from the datacenter, roughly by 12-18 MS.

Nvidia should release an updated Shield TV pro alongside a Cloud controller of their own.

I figured thats what you meant/were thinking after I posted.

With this implementation as its just a two mode thing there isnt a need for a whole display, just a simple LED telling the user what mode they are in is enough.
Ironically I would actually love this cuz Ive got multiple controllers and some are in Bluetooth mode others are in Xbox Protocol and there is no way to know what mode you are in until you turn it on and it doesnt connect to device X.
I end up either resyncing or picking up another controller, being able to just look at the top of the controller and know what mode its in is something they should have had as soon as Bluetooth mode became a thing.

But Xbox controllers with LEDs arent even new, OG Xbox One controllers had LEDs hidden under the dark plastic they only took them outta the controller when the Kinect went bust.

Reduced grip size makes some sense for portability, but otherwise anything that goes back to SNES roots just sucks.

Never touched one of the more recent Xbox Controllers but I think MS has got the ergonomics down quite perfectly since their 360 era, which is the one I still use on PC. Those pics... I don't like their shape.

The major and only change the 360 one would need is an improved D-pad and since the Abxylute S9 I just bought has it as one of its options, the Elite inspired (or plain copied?) D-Pad is glorious. Not many games are better with any D-pad but never want to use a Nintendo style simple + ever again. Thinking about buying 3D prints of that Elite thing to glue on my Dualsenses as well. The slightly embossed current regular MS design is also meh, proper 8 faces for 8 directions, only that is perfect. And I am surprised that the Elite solution wasn't done way before.

Cheaper so barrier to entry is lower....and as you said its not much bigger than a TV remote, it could be packaged in.
The Series Controllers will connect to pretty much anything that uses Bluetooth true.
So most smart TV will pick them up.
But they cost a pretty penny (note people who are relying on cloud gaming arent the people who know Series controllers can be found for like 50 bucks new) so its all about making it as easy/cheap as possible for people to join the eco system.
IF you package one of these with the (rumored/leaked) Xbox Cloud Console, the box itself would be only just bigger than a Smartphone box of yore.

Series controllers allow syncing between two devices simultaneously, the console and a Bluetoith device like PC or Mobile. And Xbox protocol allows up to 8 controllers to be connected. So you should simply keep a controller dedicated to Console, while another being synced across multiple devices.

Any regular controller can be used for Cloud Gaming. But what makes a Cloud controller special is Direct to Cloud over WiFi 2.4 ghz. The controller talks directly to the xcloud servers in Azure datacenters. So it bypasses any Bluetooth controller latency, bypasses any latency caused by the device as in OS Bluetooth stack, hardware decoding latency, the controller input signal goes directly to xcloud server blades, no middlemen processing of the controller inputs.

These are basically Xbox Series Controller S, Sebile will be the new "Standard" Xbox Series Controller and the Elite 3 will be the err........Elite 3.

From the early leaks it was assumed the baby controller wouldnt have Cloud functionality.....this leak seems to put that to bed.

If you look at this baby controller it has the Cloud and Local indicators on the back:

This so called Cloud controller is just the entry level controller........cheaper and smaller, probably with limited or no haptics, no impulse triggers, no headphone jack.....etc......its literally a cheaper smaller controller they can package/sell with other devices or just tell people hey get this for cheap to start your Xbox journey.

We havent seen Sebile yet, but im guessing it leaks soon too.

The front/top ones(not next to the Nexus) were visible to the human eye when you faced the controller away from the Kinect.
Not sure what the actual purpose was maybe it was a backup detect mode or something in case the Kinect Infrared sensor lost track or something.

Im looking forward to Sebile the most.
The Elites are outside my price point for what they are.
The baby controller just isnt my cup of tea.
But an enhanced Xbox controller........thats right up my alley.
