And if that's the whole map, that would mean the castle's in the center of it, which would be another callback to another Zelda map; A Link to the Past.

I cant believe how much effort some people is putting on this geographical setting, that effort could be used on something more useful. That being said:

How come nobody has created a 3d or clay model?

I wonder how they will deal with the borders of the map.

Invisible walls can work in the ocean.. but are not very good in the land areas..

Maybe unclimbable walls? :p

Big overworld, atmospheric exploration, is something zelda lack since WW. TP and SS had horrible exploration phases and nothing felt memorable like the sea from WW or the lands from MM and OoT. Now fill it with hidden gems, a simple but compelling story and good characters with some dark overtones like WW MM and OoT.

Guys I was reading some comments on the NL forums, and a user said what if this new game, as said by Aonuma, is a clean break from the conventions of Zelda, can it disregard the timeline completely? Be like a reboot?
Not that I'd like it, but I found it not to be that far-fetched.

They're not going to do that after just giving us the origin of the legend plus a book about the official timeline.

They're bringing this back. The way you thought you were experiencing Zelda as a kid but that the technology couldn't completely capture.

I love you yes. This feel like what i always dreamed 3d zelda to be, but was limited by technology before.

Also link still look more of a female than a male. Those legs and hips at the beginning when she was afoot.

Whenever Nintendo really wants to shake things up, they either do something catastrophic to Hyrule (Wind Waker) or make a prequel (Skyward Sword).

Either option gives them tremendous freedom to do basically whatever they want by working with the gray areas of the timeline.

While I'd love a clean reboot, I don't think we're going to get it.

I feel that was more in terms of gameplay rather than story, but who knows.

I don't know, to me he just looks like regular Link. In fact several aspects look more masculine to me than feminine, especially the feet, shoulders, and legs.

Anyways, I just noticed that the map sorta looks like it gets a little more hand drawny, the more you zoom in, that's kinda cool.

It's strange how much they've "hidden" Link. By that I mean, barely mentioned his existence! We haven't even seen Link holding a sword yet!

Anyway, I made some additions to the latest one from you guys.

Yep, that's exactly where I saw the TGA stuff happening too!

I don't think that is correct. The purple split mountain doesn't lineup with Hyrule and Death Mountain. Also, the map section that you are looking at has mountains at the north section that are visible in the demo, but are not there in the E3 picture. This is not the same section, unless there were some drastic changes made.

What is it that you say doesn't line up?

1. I chose that location partially because that location would allow you to see through the western split mountain. The river angles northwest to south east.

2. The "spiral mountain" isn't the eastern split mountain, it's in front of it. It's pretty close and not very big.

3. There is no mountain ridge between Link and Hyrule Field especially not the ones we see in the footage.

4. He'd still see everything we saw in this footage from there, just further away. We don't see any of that in the E3 footage.

5. It's too close to Death Mountain.

6. The forested area that we know is in the area I put the dot in is very similar to the one Link gets chased through and has a river where he probably shoots the robot.

Sorry to argue this...

1. Draw a line from your Link to the split and see if it's possible to pass through the other side without touching hitting the peak. It's not. As we can see right through the split in the shot, this is NOT the correct mountain.

2. I wasn't talking about spiral mountain. Just look at the mountain you marked and it's topographically wrong - it only has one high peak on one side of the river as opposed to equal-height peaks on each side. I hope you can imagine what that would look like.

3. Not sure what you're talking about here. I'm talking about the ridge I marked in blue. It obscures the split mountain slightly. It's right there in the shot. Now where does that correspond on your map?

5. What do you mean too close to death mountain?

6. ... sure but so are many other forested areas that we can't actually see or confirm.

But what I can confirm is that my landmarks line up.

Have we talked about the water here in this shot when Aonuma is about to demonstrate the bow?

I'm not sure if that's a little island in the water or just the other side of the river.

There's also a large rock on the tip.

EDIT: There is a brown rectangle on the rock in every frame the rock is on screen. Maybe a point of interest and a map marker.

Even when you watch the gameplay demo, Link starts off on a very high cliff and you still can't see anything past the mountains of that zoomed in area.

In the TGA demo, Link was actually quite low relative to E3. Believe it or not, Link was in a valley, even when he jumped off. That's why the cliffs look so high and you can't see much beyond him.

But in the E3 reveal, Link is at a much higher elevation. When you're at a higher elevation, obviously you can see above mountains that are not quite as high as you. Have a look at the map where I placed Link at E3. He's at quite a high elevation, enough to see over the land.

Your picture even shows it. The mountains that are next to the red circle would block Link's view of Hyrule and Death Mountain. Yet, in the E3 picture, he mostly has a clear view of both Hyrule and Death Mountain. (it looks mostly "flat").

Look at my above image where I've placed sight lines. See where the green line runs? Yeah, there's no mountains blocking the way. Again, take into account the high elevation that Link is standing at in the E3 shot. He's standing pretty much at the top of a mountain.

EDIT: Here's more reference - see where Link's standing on the cliff at the start of the TGA demo? Yeah, that's not actually very high.

hmmm, yeah I see what you are saying. I am arguing because I want to place him near Lake Hylia to make the map look even bigger lol

I still can't believe Nintendo decided to show the first actual gameplay of their newest and most expansive Zelda at a Game Awards ceremony put on by Geoff Keighley. It's truly amazing how much Nintendo has changed in the last year!

Oh yeah you're right, when riding the horse. It wasn't much of a showcase anyway!
It really looks like the sword is not the main weapon this time, but is just a weapon you have.

Even in the reveal sequence, Link used the bow to attack the monster
plus a very dramatic arrow animation lol

My theory of why we haven't seen the sword combat is that they're changing it up quite a bit. Hell, they added a slow motion vanquish like functionality to the Bow, I'd imagine something special is going to go on with the sword.

True, couldn't believe it myself. I mean, when Geoff and Reggie were teasing a reveal throughout the awards show my initial reaction was pretty much "This is going to disappoint SO FUCKING HARD isn't it?" I was absolutely shocked when I heard the words "Zelda" come out of Reggie's mouth.

I just noticed something, at the start of the footage, when Link is climbing the cliff, he already has the sailcloth folded in his right hand, ready to go. That's a nice little detail.

on top of showing the whole fucking map!

dammit, i cant wait to play this game in bed with offscreen play. Though I'd prefer the big screen

Yeah, this stood out to me even as I was watching the demo live. Seems like they almost go out of their way to NOT show Link's face. I mean, I suppose "the world" is meant to be the star of the demo but only seeing Link's back was... odd.

They already showed all of link, face and everything, at E3. So I doubt they're even thinking that it's something worth worrying about.

They aren't trying to hide link. They already showed us link.

I know they showed him at E3 but I still found it weird enough to notice almost immediately on Friday night. I'm not going in on any conspiracy theories or anything, just occurred to me that maybe his design is still in flux. But probably not.

It's gonna be refreshing to play Link in a completely different outfit instead of the usual green tunic. Or maybe you get it much later in the game and is optional.

I really don't want a game without the tunic, so I'm hoping it's just later in the game.

Well it was gameplay, which is usually with a camera angle that's positioned behind Link, so it's likely that that's all it was. I mean the cloak likely has some kind of story reason, and I'm hoping that the tunic will still be there, but I don't think they intentionally added the cloak in this gameplay to hide Link.

Plus, we actually haven't gotten any trailers for this game, both instances were gameplay, and both were likely early in the game. Now compare this to ST where in the first trailer, Link wasn't shown in the tunic till about a minute in, and keep in mind this was an actual trailer with gameplay cuts and what-not and not gameplay, meaning the tunic could easily still be in there. In short, they've really revealed this game in a weird way. 0_o

The hood is cool. I hope that factors into story and gameplay somehow. Somebody already said it would be fun if you could manually choose whether it was one or off (which seems to be the case from the footage).

Though I'm not sure what they could do with that.

I agree it's really refreshing. I mean this is the first time I can remember where a Zelda game has been shown, not once, but twice and he isn't wearing the green tunic. Seems they're really committed to showing off his new look. I for one, love it!

We got a good look at him already
It's most likely his starting suit like the last 3 home console Zelda games (and Spirit tracks)

The point of the TGA footage was not to show Link, it was to show the world.

Also, seems like they are dropping the stamina bar from ALBW? Link had a limited number of arrows in this.

Yeah, but it does seem odd we haven't seen him in tunic yet...and the fact this outfit also has a hood that's on/off sometimes. I wonder if that's a mechanic or has some significance

Also, please, please let the SS stamina and dashing mechanic return

So far I haven't seen anyone pointing this out, but what does everyone think are those spiky things on the top-right mountain right at the start of the gameplay video?

I originally thought those were trees, but they seem to be too scattered and way too big to be on top of a mountain.
