Zelda didn't create this rite of passage. She was merely sticking to tradition. I also got the impression that she liked Link regardless of the turn-out. Actually scratch that, it was plainly evident.

I know she didn't create it. Yes she was sticking to tradition. She was also talking way too much about Link failing at the beginning. I mean honestly, she came off as a bit of a jerk in some of the scenes at the beginning.

The "No Yes" thing caused me a limited amount of pain as a kid but I still love ol' enigmatic Kaepora.

He has an awesome theme but his dialogue also bothered me in that it didn't properly convey his being a wise mysterious owl ("Wait up, buddy!"). That and he scared me as a kid so I don't think very fondly of him.

OOT's text in general is also reallllllllly slow. That's about my only real gripe with the game, though.

We didn't know anything about Mario 3D World until the E3 prior to its release. It wouldn't surprise me if they save it for a huge blowout at E3 2015. They could use a Direct to announce the title among other elements before E3 though.

I'm not expecting much until E3, but perhaps a title and a short trailer that's a bit of what we've seen but with some structure to it.

Subtiltes have since OoT always been about an important character or item.

The title made by Nintendo of Americo for LTTP2 was A Link Between Worlds. That's not an item or a character.

I didn't get that from it at all. I felt like she was rooting for him.

I honestly don't think it makes sense *shrug* Zelda fulfills her role in the cerimony and for the rest of the game
she's saving the world
. She does her role and you do yours, she's strong and gets shit done, but she doesn't annoy you or boss you around and I never got the impression her feelings for Link depended on the outcome of his (their) quest, in fact, it's pretty much the opposite from the get-go.

That she is strong and gets things done and is doing her role as part of the ceremony is irrelevant to the argument presented. I agree with you in those things. The argument was that part where Zelda complains Link is lazy and is not doing enough of his part. Basically, what if he doesn't live up to the expectations? And Zeldablue's point was that that makes Sariah's friendship better because she doesn't set any expectations.

Maybe Zelda will be the villain.

I would love that.

Yes. I'm saying Zelda in SS is more like Princess Ruto and not much like Saria. One has a very superficial view of others and the other one sees through that. Both Saria and Ruto also travel through temples and sacrifice themselves for Hyrule...but they have different personalities. I'm basically saying I think Zelda is a b**** in Skyward Sword. :V

When I played Skyward Sword, I felt like Zelda was someone you could hang out with. She might give you some shit and she has personality flaws, sure, but that's the definition of a well-drawn character.

I like Saria for her sad arc but before she's awakened to her calling, she's pretty milquetoast. There's no texture.

When we're talking Zelda characters, the truth is that they all adhere to one anime archetype or another. The whole thing is pretty goddamn anime.

Well...that's what projecting is for. :\

I guess the problem for me might just be from me having a female/asexual lens. Zelda doesn't seem like a "friend" she seems like a character who constantly wants something from you. Saria seemed more like an actual real life friend. Like someone you could talk to without her judging you or anything. I dunno. :S

I like some anime. And dislike others. :P

Sure, yeah, it's just a difference of interpretation/perspective. I have to restate, OoT was my first Zelda so obviously I have a good deal of fondness for Saria and that story, but SS Zelda is a stronger character in both senses of the word. I think it's pretty clear that she values Link as a friend; she even sticks up for him when he's being bullied by Groose and his goons.

I kind of hope they take some cues from Hyrule Warriors in regards to story. The Cia/Link dynamic in that game was great, although I never actually got round to buying the game yet.

I don't see any problem with that. Why can't she complain about it if it's true? I don't need her, or any other character for that matter, to be sweet all the time for me to like them. Zelda is your friend, and like a good friend, she wants you to do well and that means not kissing every bit of ground you step on.

God, that looks so good.

Alright. Well I'll just stick to my opinion that Zelda is a complete asshole. As a girl looking at another girl...I think she has the worst mentality ever. She doesn't feel believable to me either. She felt very forced because of the cramped exposition they put in the beginning of the game.

It's a bummer too, because she was really great in ST. I was super disappointed by SS Zelda.

It's beautiful. Thank you.

You know what, when I play the game, I'm not riding Epona. I'm walking on foot. Every inch of land.

I-I think I'll do the same actually. I mean I might use Epona when I'm doing some backtracking, although warp points are pretty much guaranteed, but I always like to take my time and take in the surroundings in a game like this. Should be fun.

I'll keep your criticisms in mind next time I play SS and see how I feel.

Okay. You have to realize I play from a different perspective. Instead of wanting to save and protect Zelda...I only care about "protecting" Link. When girls are acting like assholes, it really irks me. I wanted Zelda dead, I thought she was awful. I wished there was an option to not care about her.

Does Hyrule Historia say that?

Yeah...HH ended a lot of age old Zelda theory debates.

Didn't say she had to pander. But she struck me as I don't know, judgmental? I personally don't think she is a bad character, but something about her in some of the beginning scenes annoyed me.

You're starting with your fanservice/romance angle again, aren't ya? :D

You could also read all of that the exact other way and say that Saria doesn't give a crap and if Link wanted to throw bushes at Mido all day she'd be down with that while SS Zelda actually sees potential in Link and encourages him in her own clunky ways to realize that potential instead of goofing off all day.

How the hell am I going to cut all of that grass? This will truly be the most challenging Zelda game.

Third dungeon item is a lawn mower. Or you can spawn a bunch of guinea pigs. They loooove to eat grass. My mom had some when she was younger and used to tell me that they were basically a free lawnmower if you put their cage on the grass and moved it around every once in a while. :D

NO.
Just... just NO.

Cia was the equivalent of a fangirl self-inserting herself in a Zelda fanfic but somehow didn't write herself getting the L.

Well yeah. But most friends are more into goofing off over realizing "full potential." :\

Zelda's more like a nagging girlfriend. A really really terrible girlfriend.

And yes, I'm cool with leaving romance out of this Zelda game. Unless they can deal with it a bit more elegantly.

God no. I think Zelda was written a little clunkily in parts of SS, but she was in no way a "terrible girlfriend." That assessment just seems completely unfair to me.

Unrelated, I hope this game follows ALBW's footsteps and just leaves a companion out altogether. If they want the option to ask for help to be always available, give Link something like a Gossip Stone variant like what Tetra had in WW. Gameplay-wise it's not that different, but narratively it's very different. I'd rather Link be alone against the big open world, quiet and with <the player's> own thoughts.

If anything, I feel Epona will be Link's main companion in this game. She obviously is going to be far more important and necessary than any other version of Epona or the Loftwing...

This is why I think people are crazy or just looking to hate when they say or think Nintendo isn't going to deliver on what they've put forward. Yes the footage was off screen because they aren't ready for people to see direct feed footage of it because it isn't done and we know Nintendo has said they work on the graphics toward the end. Already though it looks impressive. In general, compared to past Zelda games, and for what people assumed was possible on the Wii U. The E3 footage was of Link standing still in a fixed camera angle. With this color correction I think we can see some of that with this gif. Count me in as someone that wants to try traveling around on ground in this world.

I have no problem criticizing Nintendo for things they do wrong or I think they can be better at with games and outside of them. However I'm not going to give any credibility to anyone that is going to try and say that looks bad, horrible, etc or whatever word they want to use in an attempt to crap over this. That is damn pretty if not beautiful. Period.

That grass looks incredible. The way it all moves around Link and the way each individual blade catches the sun. And this is still about a year out from release. Good lord.

I'm going to miss partners.

But after Fi, I'm pretty okay with being alone this time.

I didn't like SS Zelda and I'm sticking with that. She was demanding, needy and stupid. It wasn't endearing to me. In OoT, Zelda recognizes why it's screwed up to manipulate someone into being something else. Feels like they betrayed their own message.

#MidnaLinkShipping

lol

Ehh...I like MarinxLink more. :P
