Legend of Zelda Wii U Gameplay Demo

Anyone else disappointed with the look of Zelda U? Too much going on with the shading and too many colors. Looks like clip art.

I don't disagree; complex posterization essentially IS the clip-art look.

However, Nintendo's been killing it on the art/graphics front lately so I trust that the final product will look great. Plus it seems like only characters/animate objects are cel-shaded?

I don't know, I'm not pretending to be technically knowledgeable. I'm just reiterating what I've read. Maybe it allowed for more animations, or maybe that doesn't make sense.

IF one of the devs said anything like that then they were probably joking because ram has nothing to do with the moves a polygonal character can do.
But as far as I can remember, I've never read any interview where someone at Nintendo said anything like that.

No way. They will never disturb the Zelda fans looking for their next nostalgia fix.

Oh he's gonna have a green tunic all right. Nintendo would be foolish to get rid of such an iconic look when they need all the sales they can get for this game on Wii U. Well, at the very least the poster boy Link will be wearing one. The question is when (or how) it will appear in the game, since I wouldn't mind some customization with different outfits and such.

Just look at how well Hyrule Warriors sold due to the Zelda franchise, they need that iconic Link to hype up the game.

I think the issue is Nintendo continuously using the word "open-world" which is just kinda meaningless. If anything the game is likely to be a bigger more diverse WW.

No they haven't. At least not like you think. The devs have stated several times that they don't actually like using the term open world (because then people imagine games like GTA or Skyrim) since the way the "open world" in ZeldaU is not going to be like the open world games people play today.

I guess they are forced to use the term because there's no other one to use.

That's basically what I meant, just not put as elagantly.

"Link" is just the avatar you control in a Zelda game... wish Nintendo had more of a tradition of recreating him (or her?!) like Dr. Who or James Bond, etc. People are married to the clothes or the handedness or the gender and I gotta say that annoys/disappoints me.
Link is certainly not a traditional "Avatar" ,although i agree we could change some things, maybe a green version of that outfit, with the posibility of changing colors.

And yeah look at all those starting outfits, it should be expected by now and not a surprise he has different clothes.

That's precisely what I meant, thanks for articulating it better! That and the brightness is set way too high.

lol no, it looks great. But, you comparing it to clip art explains a lot.

Not really, they can just release another big title and leave Zelda for their 2016 big holiday instead.
People will complain, but the game will eventually come out, people will play it, hate it, love it, and everyone will move onto the next announcement.

After 1000 years, anything can happen.
lol
Weirdly enough, not having zelda this year actually made me more interested on this year's E3. I feel like they gotta have a nice surprise for us now, to fill the gap.
The chances that I'll get disappointed are high sure, but I cant help but feel it.

Guys, guys. Since a "big" new Zelda is not going to be released before a November, that means that the game is almost TWO years away, asuming it's indeed coming next year :(

But whatever, if I survived the Ocarina and Twilight Princess wait, I can survive this one.

Damn you god of time-it-takes-to-make-a-good-game.

Two years? All we know is it's not coming in 2015. Could come 1/1/16! :)

Whew, just woke up from a nightmare. I dreamt that I was attending an interview with Aonuma and the interviewer was asking him all these great questions about why Link was male in every iteration, and I could only sit helplessly as Aonuma deflected every question with some subtle sexist bullshit about "adventure values" and the story being "a boy's journey" and everything else you'd expect to hear from a dude born in the 1950's/60's.

Anyway, the interview ended and I asked Aonuma--who for some reason, spoke perfect, unaccented English--to wait a minute while I showed him something. I then spent the next fifteen minutes experiencing my two real-life nightmares at once: using Yahoo search and trying to type with a samsung touchscreen keypad, all in an attempt to pull up this wonderful image, drawn by Alderion-Al:

Some artists piss me off in that they can just whip up something I would slave over, seemingly without even breaking a sweat. Anyway...

I finally thought I found the image and caught up with Aonuma as he stood in the courtyard of my old high school, but the artwork gradually dream-changed at the last second to something that looked like this:

"Haha," Aonuma laughed, "no."

"Wait! That's the wrong one!" I could only wail as Eiji signaled to his chauffeur. I'd made him wait twenty minutes for nothing, and he was probably more resolute than ever against a female protagonist in Zelda.

In conclusion, what I guess all this means is I'm bummed by the delay after all.

Man, I was hoping that the delay was just a joke, I'm so tired of waiting for this game. :/ I really hope it's at E3 because not seeing for another whole year is going to be excruciating. Hopefully "not at E3" just means not playable at E3.

Man sorry to hear that you had to sit through that nightmare. As someone who's been in a somewhat similar position, I can easily say that it's infuriating beyond belief to have a nightmare over a topic like this, where it matters to you but doesn't really physically effect anyone around you, sorry you're having nightmares. Out of curiosity though, and kinda off-topic, but do you sleep on your back? Because for me that tends to increase the likelihood of me having nightmares, along with sleep paralysis.

Edit: sorry if this sounds like I'm being condensending or rude or anything, I'm actually just curious if sleeping on your back can cause more nightmares as that is actually something I've experienced first-hand.

Likewise, this topic is so divisive that I'd honestly just love the ability to put it aside and allow both sides to make amends and realize that while we don't agree we can still get along.

I think it's totally possible that we'll still get a trailer. They just clearly won't create a build for hands-on or demonstration purposes since that would take away precious dev time. But they can "easily" splice together a new trailer from whatever random pieces they may have ready in a showable state. I wouldn't call it "likely," however. Just "possible."

Well hopefully that's the case, I mean I don't doubt that there might be something at E3 to fill the gap, it's just going to be kinda boring if it's just some low key game ala Captain Toad, which I still need to play, and like yoshi and Mario Maker. Likewise, while it looks fun, X, won't really be enough to fill the missing place of Zelda at E3.

So does anyone think we'll see ANY Zelda at E3?
Banned! lol

Here I am clicking the bumped thread expectantly only to see the complete lack of news.

We could get a new trailer or some closed-door gamepaly for the media. They were pretty clear that it will not be on public display.

I was thinking about this quote the other day

Aonuma said:
So you know we've talked a little bit today about the puzzle-solving element in Zelda, and how that's kinda taken a different shape in Hyrule Warriors. But I think people have come to just assume that puzzle-solving will exist in a Zelda game, and I kinda wanna change that, maybe turn it on its ear.

As a player progresses through any game, they're making choices. They're making hopefully logical choices to progress them in the game. And when I hear 'puzzle solving' I think of like moving blocks so that a door opens or something like that. But I feel like making those logical choices and taking information that you received previously and making decisions based on that can also be a sort of puzzle-solving. So I wanna kinda rethink or maybe reconstruct the idea of puzzle-solving within the Zelda universe.

What are people's hopes on what this means? Predictions?

I'd hope it means more environmental, organic "puzzles." Using your gear to interact with the environment like chopping down a tree to get across a raging river, using your lantern to burn things, shooting loose rock on a cliffside with a bomb arrow and creating a rockslide, etc.

EDIT: woops, looking at past posts, sorry to bump this for no reason, couldn't find a better thread to discuss this in..

... I mean come on guys, any new Zelda news would get its own thread...
