LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

Decided to import it from Playasia on 28th, and my order is still not ready...

I feel like they are doing me a favor by not selling this game in my country though, otherwise I would spend stupid amounts of money on it.

The game itself is a lot of fun and I love building the Lego models that come with it. However, I don't enjoy the level of interactivity between the two. You're basically doing the same two or three puzzles over and over again.

Honestly, I would have preferred using the portal to scan people in once and being done with it.

You'd think that with how cheap transmitters are they would make it wireless.
The first Skylanders portal was wireless on Wii and PS3; they changed to wired with the second game because it chewed through batteries like there was no tomorrow.

With this being basically the same tech, but with more sensors, I think it'd have the same problem.

Great point, never put that together. At least the cord is 8 feet haha

They could have included an optional power adapter so you could plug the pad into a wall socket if needed. I'd rather have a wire to the nearest wall than one running across the room to my console.

In Skylanders, they also changed to wired because of the many parents/people contacting support because they lost the USB dongle. It was really tiny. XD

Also on the topic of Skylanders and this game...
Those that have a Skylanders Trap Team portal close to this one, need to separate them a bit. Noticed that since getting this game, all I got was USB portal not plugged and corrupt messages in Skylanders. Thought it was just me having the 3 different portals (Infinity, Trap Team, Dimensions) plugged.

Decided to move them (because I read in here of some having problems with this game's portal on metal tables and the likes)...and no problems since.

Just finished the Simpsons level and I thought it was a perfect length. took me between 1 & 1-1/2 hour to complete and I enjoyed every minute of it. going into the world and messing around is going to be cool.

Call me crazy but this is the first game that I want to go back and doing the simpsons level again, but with different characters with me, so I can unlock secrets.

OMG the Portal 2 level was amazing. I almost cried lol

Still have to explore the hub but doing Back To The Future now and again. Sooooo gooooood. Buying more sets.

I went diving in the Mosasaur lake in the Jurassic World hub with Scooby-Doo and I couldn't find any life down there. I've tried diving in a second after drawing the Mosa with bait, too.

Is that the DLC level? I hated the Simpsons level in the core game and I'm a fan. Then I loved the Dr. Who level and I barely know anything about that franchise.

Yea, it was the level (homer chili level) that was outside the campaign. Really good. I like that when I buy new characters, I can revisit that level to with that new character and unlock secrets. For example
when I buy the portal pack, I can use the portal gun in that level to go to a part of that level w/ the portal gun.

so to get actual story/cutscene content. I need the base game(obviously), and just the level packs right?

With the other packs, is it just put the new characters on the portal and they pop up in game. Is that all that happens with no introduction or anything?

Price aside, this game is fantastic. Tons to do, great writing, fun puzzles. I've played almost every Lego game to 100% and this really holds up.

The price of entry to get content sucks though. Like 10 minutes into the game I find an area only accessible with Peter Venkman who isn't even out until January. That sucks.

Basically yeah. Base game has about 10 to 12 hours of story content, each story pack has something like 30 minutes to an hour of content (seems to vary quite a bit). Everyone else has abilities that can open new areas, some of which only one character has (only Venkman can use the proton pack, only Unikitty can break rainbow obstacles) and some of which are shared by multiple characters or vehicles (super strength, lasers, tech proficiency, etc a lot of characters have). So it's kind of up to you if you want to get anything more than the base game + story content.

Worth mentioning that some of the explorable worlds are locked behind characters who have no Story pack (Jurassic World, Scooby Doo, Wizard of Oz, etc) so if you want access to every world in the game you'll need some stuff that doesn't come with story cutscene things.

With the level packs, you get an extra level/story to play.

With the fun packs (or whatever they are called), you will unlock that dimensions and quests inside that dimension. For example, when you buy the scooby doo fun pack, you will unlock the scooby doo dimension that contains stuff to do, including quests. But it will not have a regular level/story to do like the level packs do (hope that makes sense).

Ok so I just rebuilt the portal in the very beginning of the game and its just flashing red and I have no clue what to do. Does the update have to be fully installed to continue? The game said it was ready to start after about 60% of the update was complete.

If you haven't, move the characters around.

Unlike other "toys to life games", the positioning of the toys on the portal is part of the gameplay.

You can't finish that initial room without the update installed, at least on PS4.

You're supposed to get a prompt to build the Batmobile after you finish the portal, but it doesn't happen without the update. You can't advance without the Batmobile. (Unless you have another vehicle, maybe. I couldn't test that at the time.)

Yes, install the update.

I had to restart the portal building three times (four, actually, since when I "save & exit" after the first time I managed to build it completely, the game didn't actually save).

Make sure you're playing with one active character - I think the game gets confused if there's more than one in play. Also, Batman has to be on the middle portal slot - the instructions to move him don't always appear. Also, if you build the portal (circle button) without moving Wyldstyle around the three portal slots, then you'll have to restart the game.

Basically, if the prompt to build the Batmobile doesn't come up, you need to restart the game completely and try again.

Note that I had the update installed before I ever tried to play the game - the portal build / batmobile transition bit just failed two times.

I restarted about a dozen times and it did nothing. Then I installed the update and it worked fhe first try after.

Only Peter Venkman ? No other characters can replace him ?

I played the PS4 version with a friend last night and we both got achievements. In fact, when he left he didn't log out (just turned off his controller) and he kept getting achievements along with me as I kept playing...

Well i'm really enjoying the game so far but despite buying about half of the launch items i'm constantly encountering stuff I can't access. mostly small collectibles but still. In some cases I need an ability that characters already out have, but that I'd rather wait and get through another character that is coming out in a later wave which I'd rather buy, so I'm trying to hold strong to that.

It's a lot of fun building the mini builds. The Delorean was probably the most fun so far. Love that the doors on it even open fairly accurately.

I think you can use any character that has the needed ability. I use the upgraded Batmobile to break glass instead of Homer.
Yes that's true, except that only Venkman has the proton pack ability. No vehicles or other characters do.

Similarly, only Unikitty can break rainbow block obstacles and no vehicles or characters other than her can do it AND she's not out yet either.

I think those are the only two obstacle gates that have no way of being overcome yet. I have a feeling that we might see more characters or vehicles that can do those things introduced in later sets though.

Yeah, I've run into a few of those. Chell is the only one who can open portals (afaik), but the Portal pack was the first one I bought. The Venkman one is particularly annoying since it shows up in the very first level.

Does anyone know how to break greenish blocks? There is something breakable on the far top left of the Springfield Nuclear Plant - right where you fall in - that I can't break with anyone or any vehicle that I have. There's no hint block either.
Edit: nm, they are X-Ray bricks that Cybermen can use. Not sure if anything else can do it yet.

Yup. You can press triangle on PS4 to see a list of characters/modded vehicles to perform the task. Found a place in a later stage that can only use unikitty - not out until November.

Hit a repeat crippling bug.

On PS4, level 13.

Fighting a certain boss, you enter it and have to use the portal for yet another color puzzle. However, after getting all three colors, with the base characters only, we had them in the wrong spots(playing on co-op), so after switching them around, we noticed the center and right sides of the portal weren't responding to the colors of the characters. Only the left. So, we took all three off, put on three others, and same problem.

Turned off the game, unplugged/replugged portal, reloaded save, and same issue, except only the center one was borked.

Not happy about it. Nor am I happy about the heavy use of portal puzzles this late in the game. At least with Skylanders or Disney Infinity, it's rare for the portal to bork.

Loving this game to death, only thing I don't like is that you have to spend gold bricks to get extra build plans for your vehicles, but a ton of gold bricks are hidden behind characters you have to buy from the store. I think it's pretty shitty of them to do this.

I've gotten enough gold bricks to fully upgrade the Batmobile and I'm maybe halfway through the story. Just finishing the story should let me do another vehicle. That's without touching the hub worlds, and without getting Rule Breaker (fka True Jedi) on every level.

And of course any new vehicles give you more hub worlds, and make Rule Breaker easier to get by giving you more abilities.

I don't exactly see a scarcity issue right now...

What do you mean more hub worlds? I thought it was one hub world per IP?

Maybe I'm dumb but my kid is trying to build the legos that come with Homer and the instructions don't show up. He also has a red circle flashing around his portrait. Am i doing something wrong?

Not sure about the circle but to build the car and tv you have to get the instructions in game in the simpsons level set. You'll find the instructions in the first 5 minutes or so.

Ohh damn. Thanks

Yeah, learned that the hard when when I had a table full of bits and no instructions haha. Had to google the answer myself. You'll see a circle on the ground you walk up to to press circle (on ps4) and instructions appear. I think the car happens in the garage and the tv near the chili cook off after driving a bit.

The portal and BTTF packs are similar.

It's one per IP but you get access to three of them with the starter, before you've even bought another vehicle.

That said: I thought that each vehicle got you a new hub, because I thought there was one per IP, but that's wrong.

Once someone writes up an FAQ saying which of the 480 gold bricks in the game need additional characters, maybe I'll do the math and figure out if you're ever truly required to buy more. :)

Where are the instructions to build the Portal models? My daughter wants to build them, but I want to keep tooling around in the levels and if I can avoid getting the model instructions that'd be great.

They're in the Portal Level Pack level (as in the one you need Chell to access), as you're required to use the two Portal vehicles/items to progress through puzzles in that.

So if you stay out of that you'll be fine.

We've been playing through the Portal level pack but haven't run across the instructions.

Ok that doctor who level was fucking amazing. Also the Simpsons level pack was worth it. The level it came with was awesome, and the hub world is incredible. I've got every toy to life game besides this years infinity and skylanders and this is the best one yet.

There's spots on the floor relatively early on that should have instructed you to build those two objects. If you missed them then I guess you had some other characters who were able to cover those abilities?

If you bring up the character/vehicle switching wheel while you're in control of Chell there's a 'build instructions' option at the bottom of the wheel that you can use to get the instructions at any time you want.

Just finished the Elements of Surprise level and I don't know if I'm just being stupid or what but the puzzles where it uses the portal and you have move the characters around, while also making them a specific color in game, made no sense to me. It seemed obvious to just have a character match the color of the portal it was showing on screen and moved them to that section of the portal, but it never worked. It felt like random color changing or moving characters around eventually would work but I had no idea what the puzzle was - it wasn't clear at all. Same with moving characters around to the different in-game colored portals - feels like you often have to pick up and put back a character onto the same spot to have it register what you were trying to do.

Am I missing something obvious? The first 2 levels were fun but the Simpsons was disappointing and the Elements of Surprise felt repetitious and frustrating due to the puzzles.

There will be a picture of the color combo somewhere close by - sometimes even on the back of a boss. It's not the picture of the base on the lower right.
So, for example, if the puzzle is orange, red, blue you would send each character to one of the paint blobs. Let's say you have Gandalf yellow, Wyldstyle red, and Batman blue. Gandalf would go on the left base, WS on the middle base, and Batman on the right base to start. The base will now show as yellow, red, blue. Now take WS and put her on the left base with Gandalf to make orange. Puzzle solved. You can move the characters around the bases as often as needed to create the right combos.
