LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

Hey guys - I haven't read about this game too much, but my four-year-old is really getting into playing with Lego as of late, and I thought this might be a great way to build and play together.

Is there a lot of actual real-world building of Legos to do in this game? And would he be able to enjoy playing / watching the game?

Well I installed the 1.14 update. I loaded it up and it asked me to update the A-team hub again. Quit and played some watchdogs while it was downloading (it was super slow for some reason). When it finished I loaded Dimensions back up only to be asked to update the hub again :( so still not fixed.

I downloaded the Dimensions update, then redownloaded the A-Team update and I was able to get into the world. For me, the update is fixed.

You build the minifigs, and vehicles/items, etc, as well as the portal itself.

I think a 4 year old would probably enjoy it; they'd need help with the campaign levels, but could easily fool around in the adventure worlds on their own.

I still can't access any of the levels in the Shard and Add-Ons will never give me the option to download the content.

Is this just really buggy or is there a work around?

I ordered the Sonic, Gremlins, E.T., and Fantastic Beasts sets from Amazon at the beginning of October, and they just... decided not to send them to me.

The only explanation I can think of is that my preorder was low enough on the list that they ran out of stock on all those sets and I'm on a later shipment, but surely that can't be the case for all four of them.

I just contacted Amazon today after noticing they didn't ship yesterday for release date delivery. They said they were short shipped on their initial order but expect the rest in 3-4 days. They also gave me a $5 credit for the trouble. I really wanted to play Fantastic Beasts but i haven't finished the Ghostbusters Story Pack or even touched the MI level pack so maybe I will do that this weekend instead.

Picked up Sonic today and this has to be my favourite level pack so far. It's impressive just how far they went to make everything faithful without neglecting the core gameplay of Dimensions. Also speeding around the Sonic world as Sonic feels incredible, in fact, Sonic as a character is handled extremely well. The speed is there, his homing attack is there, you can boop enemies on the head, it's Sonic. My only complaint is how they didn't pull a B.A Baracus and allow you to turn into Knuckles/Shadow/Amy. None of them would really require any new abilities, just a reskin.

Overall though, as I said, easily my favourite level pack.

I'm interested to know what the Gremlins hub world is like, and also what kind of dialogue those guys have.

I've only played around in it for a little while, but it's split up into; Kingston Falls, Chinatown & Manhattan (area with the Clamp building at least). There's a bunch of buildings in KF which you can enter which were in the first film, like the cinema & toy store.

I've also seen three quests with different Gremlins as well; plant gremlin, brain gremlin & Greta so far. Idk about the others, hopefully spider & gargoyle ones are somewhere.

I use two extra USB extenders I had sitting around and it works just fine.

Thanks.

In other news, this game is broken now. I downloaded the newest patch and all the updates. Now it crashes, refuses to write toy tags, and randomly drops the sound effects level to zero. I've had more crashes today than in the rest of my time with the game combined. Every time it restarts, it wants to update my save file. Now I have multiple save files and have no idea which one isn't corrupted (if any of them aren't). Very frustrating.

Edit to add - I'm not even using the new content either. I was in the Lego Movie and Simpsons levels when all of this happened.

Interesting. That's been the opposite of my experience - the new patch (v2.1.1 in-game, v1.13 on the PS4 dashboard - equivalent to v1.14 outside North America) restored all of my gold/red bricks that had been screwed up by the old one (v2.0.1 in-game/v1.11 NA/v1.12 Europe).

The timer on the save file was still jacked, and the indicator that I earned Rule Breaker in the Ghostbusters 2016 Adventure World was still missing, so I still reverted to my pre-2.0 save I kept safe on a USB stick. But I'm a lot more confident that it won't get corrupted again.

What system are you on?

On PS4. Since I posted, the A-Team update showed available again, even though I had already downloaded and installed it. So I downloaded it and installed it again, and then I got multiple notifications that the update was available (again) within a ten second period. I don't know how many times I've downloaded that update but it's at least four. Hasn't crashed in awhile (fingers crossed) but I had to replay a chunk of the Simpsons level due to lost progress.

I gave up on the "converted" save and saved over it, which screwed up the timer on the save file. But that one is still working and auto saving (where the previous one was not auto saving) so maybe it's fixed?

played the Sonic level today. Sonic itself is awesome. Green Hills was great as well but the rest of the world wasn't nearly as good. I even had some bugs - some game breaking like a missing eggman. I hope this will get fixed.

Sonic is too fast for this game btw. The hub world does not have the 2.5d lock and running around with him is complicated. :D There even were som major frame drops.

I ran around the Lego Movie world as Sonic earlier and the framerate dropped noticeably. I believe this is the same for flying characters like Superman/Supergirl. Also he's OP in combat, since he can boop enemies on the head and just homing attack them as well. I'm not complaining though, he's a lot of fun to use.

I enjoyed the level, though Green Hill and Emerald Coast were definitely the best parts by a long stretch. The rest of the level was fine, just more stuff you would expect from the game whereas the first two sections really changed up the gameplay formula.

So I just got this game today, as a shop nearby had 25% sale on all things lego including the games. So I got the base game, the fantastic beast story pack, the portal level pack and the harry potter team pack. There were so many different packs to choose from so I have no idea if I choose the good ones or if I should have gone for other level packs instead of the team pack for example :x Did I pick up the good ones?

Won't get anything from the New Wave til Black Friday/Cyber Monday but Sonic was too tempting.

Also thinking about a OT title change, any suggestions?

Also, anyone know Mod to help change it?

I checked it out in the store this weekend, but my son was way more interested in all the Star Wars and Skylanders stuff. I still think it is something I want to get, but perhaps I should just get a couple of extra things for him to "build" and play with.

The building part in Dimensions is pretty minimal, and what you build is rather small by design. There are also many tiny custom bricks you can lose with a kid around. I would say buy your son likes and get some additional Legos or other toys for building things. That said, the game is pretty good and if you want to buy it for the two of you, by all means go for it. I just wouldn't "force" it on the kid.

Yes, I would not say that the buiding in Dimensions are good for small children. The game is fun and can be enjoyed by kids (with a little help from you) but for building for small kids I would recommend other Kego sets. Some Duplo or Juniors stuff.

He's really into Lego City at the moment, but also loves playing games together. I think the DualShock4 is still too difficult to handle for him at the moment, but the idea of playing together is what makes it fun for the both of us :)

i know many others have already provided advice.

I just wanted to add that there IS a building-centric lego game, but it's only on PC. It's called LEGO Worlds and they are doing monthly updates for it. Still very much an active game that doesn't get enough attention.

That said I hope you enjoy Dimensions and yes it is definitely a game a 4yo would have fun watching someone else play, assuming they had the attention to do it since 4yos can differ a lot on that!

I had been thinking about getting this game for some time, and the most recent packs (specially Sonic) look really nice. How is the Wii U version? (I don’t have a PS4 or Xbox One)

Need to check this out again. I bought it months ago.

Thanks for the link, much appreciated.

Anything with robots, dinosaurs or superheroes is able to keep him entertained for a long time. This is actually the thing I like the most about the game, the fact that you can play with so many different characters.

Good to know. I was wondering where my ET set was...

UPDATE: They didn't give me any credit, but they expedited my shipping for free, so I should have it before Wednesday now.

Wii U version is decent if you don't have the more powerful systems. It does get really choppy at times when the framerate bottoms out, especially in the Adventure Worlds. I've read complaints that it has a lot of glitches, but the only bad one I experienced was playing the emulated arcade games in the Midway Classics pack. They had horizontal lines going through the screen which made it hard to see. I only played through about half the story levels and some of the Level Packs & Adventure Worlds before I got a PS4 and switched to that version. It runs far, far better on there.

LEGO Dimensions |OT| Gold Bricks Sold Separately
LEGO Dimensions |OT| Them's the Bricks
LEGO Dimensions |OT| More 80s than Cocaine

This one speaks to me, unless someone can think of a good joke involving Bricks

I think everyone is fine with this OT with the 2nd Year so no need to launch another OT.

UPDATED First Post.

LEGO Dimensions |OT| Another Brick in the Wallet

Also, who wants to see some fun interactions in Season 3, if/when they add Star Wars to the game, involving these 2?

LEGO Dimensions |OT2| & Knuckles

Seriously that Sonic pack is SO. GOOD. Should I get Jake the Dog? Him and Newt seem ridiculously useful but obviously Newt is a much heavier investment. Only minifigs I have so far are the main trio, Supergirl, the Doctor and Sonic.

Disney stuff is at least Year 4, they had 3 years planned before DI shut down.

Is there any source on this? I mean, obviously they had Year 2 stuff planned out by the time Disney announced it was pulling the plug on Infinity. But I would be kind of surprised if Year 3 stuff was ironed out at that point. For that matter, I'd be surprised if they were committed to a Year 3 at all when Infinity got the ax.

I'm pretty sure this stuff takes more than a year to make anyway. They were probably knee-deep in year 3 before they even unveiled year 2/DI got canned.

I'm not exactly sure what major franchises they could add in Year 3 that'll top adding Star Wars, though. I imagine WB were on the phone IMMEDIATELY when Iger dropped the axe on Infinity, making sure it can join as quickly as possible.

Thinking about what Year 3 could have at all is kind of hard. In terms of WB properties... I'm thinking Looney Tunes/Space Jam, they'll probably add Steven Universe, maybe something involving King Kong/Godzilla... I'd LOVE some Tiny Toons/Animaniacs/Pinky and the Brain stuff but it seems unlikely. Then beyond that I'm half-expecting them to add Dragon Ball Z.

We're getting Knight Rider - *anything* is on the table. Plus, the age of those fans is moving into the target area for this game. Mining the nostalgia isn't going to stop until we stop buying.

I'm still patiently waiting for my Growing Pains team pack with Mike Seaver and Boner.
