LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

Whew... I spent about 5 hours today building a bunch of dimensions stuff that was in my backlog and doing some of the level packs. Takes a lot out of you! Glad to have it all setup now though.

I hope that Dimensions has been a big enough success for them to move forward with the 2nd year of content. Harry Potter and some of the other brand speculated could draw in more players

So I've been playing this game a lot on xbox360, but I'm gonna be picking up an xbox one this weekend. Is there any way at all to transfer my progress across to the xbox one? I already know that the portal itself is not compatible and don't mind trading up for the xbox one version.

I seem to recall seeing the game on the list of backwards compatible titles when the feature was first announced, but it seems to be missing from the list of current titles. Ideally I'd like to be able to take my save game from the 360 version and import it into the xbox one version. Did some googling but can't find a definite answer...

Any vehicles you have already upgraded will retain their upgrades unless/until you overwrite the toy tag on the One version. Other than that, there's no way to retain any progress.

Thinking of picking this up to play with my kid. Any drawbacks to the Wii U version? Do any of the versions have a standalone download that works with the portal?

The will u version plays really well and it has 2 screen co op, haven't played the other versions though so can't compare

No digital download yet. I really didn't even think about it till towards end when I realized how much a digital version would be nice so I didn't have to keep the disc in all the time. I'm hoping the next version or expansion or whatever they have planned offers a digital download.

I assume they won't do a digital download because some people would buy it not realizing they need a portal to play,

Disney Infinity requires a portal to play but still sells a digital version.
That's because Disbey Infinity is 3 games deep and they're appealing to people who owned previous games.

Skylanders does the same thing.

But Dimensions has no way to buy the portal and NOT the game so there's no reason to decouple then and offer digital purchases.

That doesn't change what he was saying though. He was saying that people might be confused and buy it without realizing you need a portal. Disney Infinity and Skylanders having sequels doesn't mean people still can't get confused and buy a game not knowing they need additional hardware.

The weirdest thing is that when you open the Dimensions starter pack, there's what looks like a retail LEGO set inside that contains the portal; or at least the bricks part of it (I can't recall). So really, there's no reason they couldn't start selling the portal separately and just have notes on the box and maybe an insert inside that tells the buyer how/where to get the game digitally.

Played through Midway a bit today, it's competent but not really fun. Emulation seems OK but unsuited to modern controllers. Especially poor is Super Sprint which tries to map an analog wheel controller to digital buttons with the end result of cars that can barely be controlled.

The Adventure world area is quite neat though, whoever designed the Marble Madness bit looked to have had a fun time.

It seems that Supergirl and Green Arrow have been leaked, both by hackers and through the replacement parts feature of the lego.com website.

I only drawback I really noticed from the Wii U version is that in Adventure Worlds breakable objects will reset after traveling a enough distance and (maybe?) some area have less enemy's than in the PS4 version.

The Wii U, PS3, & PS4 versions of Lego Dimensions all use the same Portal (as is stated on bottom of the base).
Unfortunately, WB Games do not sell the games individually from the starter packs (Disc or Digital). The only way to switch from different consoles is to buy the disc preowened from a reseller, such as GameStop (I bought the PS4 disc preowened from them & used my Wii U Starter Pack Portal, and have had no real issues with my copy, but, be wary, these are used so your mileage my very).

The PS4 one will do that same reset with distance, that's not unique to the Wii U version.

I know the PS3/360 versions had some quests with less things to find (collect 5 cats instead of 9); I assume the Wii U version is similarly capped.

Oh, I just remember that the stud bricks kept resetting by flying inbetween the farm and water mill in the Lord of the Rings Adventure world in the Wii U & I didn't recall this being the case in the PS4 version. Huh.

Yeah, the lower quest requirements are in the Wii U version too.

I believe S1 (71244) is rumoured to be Sonic.
Really? From what I've seen anyway, people seem to think that the S & GR sets are for the datamined SuperGirl & Green Arrow

I believe the GR one was rumored to be Ghost Rider, because there were rumors that Marvel would be getting in on the action with whatever Version 2 they bring out.

Not a chance while Infinity is around.

The only one they've given a hard no to is Star Wars, and that was because it was right when DI 3.0 launched and SW was the main focus and they don't want to "dilute the brand" by letting those characters cross over with others (which is the stupidest and most disappointing thing about Disney Infinity to me). The "GR" might not be for Ghost Rider and it might not happen in whatever "Dimensions 2" is but I'm a bit more optimistic about Marvel stuff in the future.

Marvel won't allow their characters to be in the same game as DC's characters

There's still too much bad blood there

A few tabletop/ccg game companies have managed to make two 'separate' games for Marvel and DC individually that are compatable with eachother (stuff like Heroclix or DiceMasters) but even then they can never bundle Marvel and DC properties together at retail

It is simple because Marvel is owned by Disney and Dimensions is a direct competitor to Disney Infinity in the toys-to-live genre. It is nothing about brand dilution. So a Lego Avengers as a stand alone game is ok, while Marvel characters on Dimensions are not.

Once Lego Dimensions is over, if there is no Marvel stuff, I will concede the point. As it stands, I will remain hopeful. I don't feel the same at all for Star Wars though.

I mean it's not like I'm sitting here pining after it, I'm not gonna throw my Dimensions stuff away if it never happens, and I'm more than aware that licensing is a bitch and constantly in flux and something that's planned may never make it to retail. I mean Disney changed their own plans and there's no Infinity 4.0 coming out this year anymore, they're just extending 3.0 instead.

I thought this ended in the 90s.

that was a brief window where they were open to cooperating, ever since then it's been non-stop petty comments and sniping at one another. there's no mutual respect (which there once was, long ago, even with some friendly shit-talking going on) and it's pure 'hate the competition' these days

it's unfortunate because the crossovers are really cool stuff when they happen. JLA/Avengers in particular is worth reading for anyone who wants to see a good story involving both the Justice League and the Avengers.

Sonic's a good license to go after for Warner. Plenty of characters they can use, all with varied abilities, many of which have already been covered by the superhero characters in other games (e.g. Sonic's speed). It's a good fit for Dimensions. Knuckles big fig anyone?

I hope adding Sonic means they're adding new abilities for the new wave, both Sonic and The Flash could use Super Speed and I'm sure there's plenty of ways to incorporate that into some puzzles and open world stuff.

I'm just curious if they'd bother to go add more content to existing adventure worlds and level packs or if they'd keep the new abilities' uses to the newer content.

Remember: Any character from a franchise means we get an adventure world for them.

I would definitely buy a Sonic pack, that would be awesome. Still only have 3/6 level packs, need to get Ghostbusters, Simpsons, and Midway. Haven't been really collecting any of the packs that don't come with a level though.

I'm all for new abilities, but Gamer Kid actually has Super Speed already. Unless they let Flash/Sonic go even faster.

Adding to the existing worlds would also be fantastic. Here's hoping

My figures got all messed up. I put them in a box up high, so of course I found my cat in it. He then proceeded to knock it over and it rained little lego figures. I'm still trying to find all the pieces.

Oooh. Sonic. I wonder if he's getting a level/world.

I really need to get back to playing the game. I've tried to play the game with more than Wyldstyle, Gandalf, and Batman and it's a hassle on a first playthrough.

GameStop is having a dimension sale for today only. 40% off levels, fun packs and team packs. Plus you can get the starter pack for $60.

I've been looking into getting this or infinity but decided to jump in because of the sale and infinity getting canceled. Got starter pack, ghostbusters, portal, Wonder Woman, wicked witch, joker/Harley, and fun unikitty. Went slightly overboard but my daughter is excited.

Yup, I also went to Gamestop and picked the PS4 starter kit for $60 along with the Midway Level pack. Stoked to finally try this game.

But the software isn't available on PSN, is it?

The disc holds the content needed to play with Wave 1 and maybe 2. The patch is the content for the remaining waves.

Nope, it just holds content for Wave 1. None of the Level Packs are also in the base disc. The latest patch also holds content for Green Arrow and Supergirl with red lantern powers.

That makes sense. Do we know when wave 2 is going to be released? I know they just finished wave 1 which is why I'm thinking they are having a sell today.

Multiple patches has been released since release to fix stuff and add content. So the 8GB patch is for all that.

Waves were also the different release schedules. Game's in Wave 5 right now.

They're apparently adding more waves with newer figures, or might go for a 2.0 expansion of sorts. Nothing official at the moment, other than some data of some new figures in the recent patch. So it coud just be Wave 6.

Wave5 just got released with Slimer , Bane etc.
Game is now 100% achievable.
Nothing new announced afaik.

Went back to Gamestop and picked the Dr. Who level pack, Wizard of Oz fun pack and Unikitty. Total spent out of pocket today, after trade-ins, was $60. Not bad for the starter kit, two level packs and two fun packs. Glad I waited for a sale for because Toys to Life are super expensive!

So I just realized that I now have all the LEGO Dimensions figures. This wasn't really intentional--sales just kept popping up, and I kept taking advantage of them, and...well, here we are.
