Let’s talk about how poorly optimised most PCVR titles are?

Apart from a few special games like Half Life Alyx, I find most PCVR games to be poorly optimised.

I’ve got a 3060ti which should be a decent enough gpu for VR. I got so fed up with performance issues I abandoned PCVR and bought a PS5/PSVR2 set up and I’m much happier. It seems that the majority of YouTubers run on 4080/4090 to get the performance they need.

People are complaining about the performance of games like Behemoth and saying the PSVR2 version runs better.
I’ve got the PC and PSVR2 version of No Man’s Sky and I could never get the PC version to run as well. No matter what graphic settings I used.

8GB cards tend to struggle with newer games. Especially in VR.

PSVR2’s inclusion of eye tracked dynamic foveated rendering was a brilliant move by Sony.

It allows visuals and performance to be significantly higher than they would be without it.

VR is much more demanding of hardware than flat screen games. I’m not sure the problem is PC optimisation, more that PS5+PSVR2 is a very potent combination that allows it to deliver results comparable with high end PCs.

In fact, some developers have spoken out recently to say that the PSVR2 version of their game is their personal favourite.

It's great. The only issue is not enough of them use eye tracking.

lol no. 3060 ti is outdated for anything 4k. Even my 3080 Ti is struggling for it
Half Life Alyx is still one the best looking games for PCVR and is optimised very well on a 3060ti.

buying a gpu that was low end 4 years ago when it was released and expecting to run high quality VR 4 years later...

lol yeah, surprise, PC games can't be optimized to the same level consoles can, look at the astronomical amount of configurations possible. Can't imagine which CPU and system memory is completing the combo there...

Beyond trying to run modded flat UE5 titles like Robocop or Silent Hill 2, I've had no real trouble running PCVR games well on my 3070 Ti. Maybe they should stop trying to run everything at 90fps with supersampling? Comparatively speaking, most PSVR2 games run at 60fps with reprojection, so 72 fps at 2496x2592 is very often doable and likely better than what PSVR2 often does. (I could be wrong though, because I don't have a PSVR2 to compare)
