Just saw the first episode and I liked it. I'm not usually into this type of shows but this was entertaining. The lead guy looks really young O_O I'm also glad there wasn't any romantical aspect in the show at least not in the first episode, well a small one but I hope they keep it at minimum.
I have also been watching Galileo season 2. Never finished the first season and I'm basically watching this because there isn't much else to watch. I'm kinda mood for slice of life show set in rural japan but can't find any.
Sadly, the life shown in Hanzawa is pretty close to reality.

Mozu episode 3-6
I watched episode 3 the day it came out but remember not really liking it. However, watched the next 3 consecutively and it really picked up and now hyped for episode 7. There were some things that I didn't like, but I'll let it slide for now. The series is around a 3.7/5 atm.

Saw the first 2 before finals...well, I do like the perfume ending music; I usually don't like their music. Other than that, episode 2 was decent/good but the first episode was...very average. This is going to be a below average-average drama but I'll stick with it.
Thinking of watching Roosevelt Game or Border, probably going to go with the latter or watch an episode of each and go with w/e clicks for me.

Its actually worse when you consider that the 12-hour workday doesn't even count the 3 hours on average you spend inside a train getting to/from work. Its not surprising that smartphones have taken off as much as they have.

seriously, fuck being pressured to live your whole life in that environment. can sympathize with the NEET culture.
spending 40 hours a week with/without commute is already enough. the sooner Japanese society rises against it the better.
With luck, 2016. Without luck? In a decade. Watch Roosevelt Game. Source material is from same author who wrote Hanzawa Naoki. It mixes business & sports and so far it has been good mix. The business side is much like Hanzawa Naoki (crooked banksters, evil CEOs, window dressing, etc.) and it has same kinda gotcha moments as Naoki.

I am currently watching Kagi no Kakatta Heya.
The main female protagonist doesn't seem to be a particularly skilled actress? But I don't really watch American soap operas/dramas so maybe that's just a thing. The OP does warn about that though. It is hard to tell if it is just an expected part of the genre or legitimately bad actors.
Also damn do they talk fast.

The story revolves around blind faith, human despair and deception. Fumiyo Kohinata does a stellar job leading this drama. He's also got a strong supporting cast.
Love Shuffle.
Modern day Japan swingers club. With all the trappings of a modern day Japanese drama. Solid casting here as well.

Yukie Nakama as wife and freelance writer with Shosuke Tanihara as hopeless husband from a wealthy family.

Yes, not gonna lie, most dramas quality are pretty bad or they have bad actors/actresses. You'll get used to it lol. My standards for acting has gotten low thanks to jdramas.
And not really, they don't really talk fast. Any language you don't know will sound fast to you. lol

Well I'm partially watching to get better at parsing Japanese. Compared to anime, I'm having a much harder time parsing the speech and making out the sounds.
Do you meen Toda Erika? I haven't watched Kagi no Kakatta Heya yet, but I liked her in Keizoku 2: SPEC. But yeah, a lot of actors in J-drama aren't top notch.

I grew up a weaboo watching anime almost exclusively but I can't bring myself to watch J Dramas. The acting is just SO BAD. Sometimes when I try to look past the acting, the cliche plots get to me.
Japanese people don't talk and act the way they do in dramas. I know because I live here.
The only drama I like is HANZAWA NAOKI. And Kagawa (the bad guy) is a superb actor. I notice the actors with a Kabuki background like Kagawa are the ones with the best acting. It's a bit overacting but in a good way.

Any recommendation for recent dramas? I've taken a break since legal high 2 and has been itching for a Jdrama.
As for acting in jdrama, I usually go in with a mind set of watching day time television in the state, about the same acting quality lol. It's funny since I think Japan has some of the best movies and finest actors.

Yeah, they really enunciate every word and phrase in the shows, almost as if talking to a child or a mentally challenged individual.
Irl it sounds more like a machine gun going off.

I think they try to emulate how acting in theatre (real-life plays), where over the top acting and enunciation is preferred and actually works because of the distance between the audience and stage.
It's bizarre on TV.

Interesting show I suppose. Though will they ever change it up and have more than one possible suspect? Also the show has some weird ass editing. It will cut to black in what seems to be the middle of a scene. Then jump to an entirely different scene.
Hero s2 & GTO s2 just feels Fuji's lazy attempt to stay relevant. Instead of creating something new, lets just revival old hits (galileo,hero,etc.) and hope they do well enough.
Aoi Honoo does sound interesting, will check it out.

Must say, the final episode was good. There were a few things that annoyed me with this episode with Shingai and the motivation of the real villain(which was obvious before they revealed it around episode 8) of this season was kinda "eh". But nonetheless, it was an entertaining drama. Of course, there were still some things they didn't cover but hopefully it will in season 2 because I'll definitely will be watching it. Overall, a strong beginning, but it became like a cos wave, while converging into being pretty good overall; nothing really special that made the drama stand out or great, but I liked it nonetheless.
Besides Mozu season 2, I'll be watching Young People. Other than that, nothing else for me. GTO has always been something I want to watch, but I heard the drama wasn't that great. Still might give it a go one day if there is a season that has nothing I want to watch.
It seems like the drama to watched this season was Border though. I only watched the first episode and that was strong. Guess I should have continued watching it.

Really entertaining so far. I'm not a Japanese teenager from the 80s so I can't really relate to the character but it's not a problem.

In this drama the actors all play their characters in the 80s AND in 2013. For some reason, thirty something people playing 15 years old characters doesn't look that out of place. That's Asian Genes™ for you I guess.

Just watched all the episodes and wow, this was the drama to watch last season. Mozu was good, but Border was entertaining throughout. That ending! I didn't see that ending coming at all, but I guess it should have been expected since the other people around him noticed he was getting worse.

Yeah, I watched the last few episodes again, and there was a lot of foreshadowing regarding behavior change .
They don't mention it again IIRC.

Definitely. Episode 7 was a huge indication. It was a well put drama.
Thank you for posting this. At first, I was kinda turned off by the premise but decided to watch it because of Haru. It gets better with each episode; Reiji is extremely funny and I love how this drama incorporates the main game they're showing off with the story. Sure, at times the match they have to make decisions are kinda silly and the main story is silly/ isn't that good, it gets the job done, but the characters are great. The one thing I loved about Amachan was the glimpse of the 80's culture through Haruka's eyes and in this drama, we kinda stay in that time period for a good amount of episodes. It was a good drama with a good amount of laughs throughout.
Though for some reason, even though I like Haru as an actress, I feel like Tsubasa Honda would have been a better role for Takano. Maybe because she actually games lol.
Also, I love the touch of the 80's/90's like music and both the theme songs featured in this drama. I want to buy the soundtrack but it seems to only come with the dvd set. :\

I'm not done with the drama yet (gotta wait for subs heh) but I'm sure it'll end up being one my favorites. I also love the cameo of Dragon Quest's creator in the Dragon Quest episode, when he talks about slimes to Reiji's father :lol
