See you driving round town
wash your teeth with a bottle of jack
Just a dream nelly
frankly it all sounds the same and sounds like utter fucking shit...
makes me want death and deaf...
so yeah music was better like maybe 4-5 years ago...
welp I hear all this on basically z100 when I'm driving my 19 year old sister and her pals around... makes me wanna drive 140mph into a river or off a cliff...Nappuccino said:I do believe we have found the issue.

i agree, i highly recommend people to listen to Aloe Blacc new album "Good Thing"TheLastCandle said:I suppose you could make the argument that popular music these days is really, really bad compared to how it was in the past. However, there's great stuff coming out these days, you just need to know where to look.

haven't heard a good song on the radio since 2007 ish ?
it's not music it's just samey sounding jingles and vocals to brainwash young people into a false sense of security...

Id guess you're not old enough. 20s? It's like the period when you turn 10 and notice how stupid Barney is. An adult would never waste their time hating on it, though. IMO when you get even older you notice pop music is just silly fun for people who don't take it too seriously .. It's not worth hating (at least in my experience.. on the other hand.. Some people just grow more critical).Emily Chu said:I suppose so... but why does it all sound the same ? maybe I'm just old... idk
damn kids and their generic trash...

viciouskillersquirrel said:The same period of time that brought us Roy Orbison, The Kinks, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and The Rolling Stones and also brought us such hits as "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Monster Mash", "Please Mr. Postman", "Walk Like a Man" and everything the Beach Boys ever did.
So no.
Paco said:They didn't have Lady Gaga back then, but they also didn't have metal or rap. Tough call.
If you turned the radio on in the early 60s, you'd hear the same songs by The Temptations, The Supremes, The Crystals etc. with the gaps filled in with songs by dozens of imitators (including one group called The Cookies) on loop. Their sound wasn't all that distinguishable from one to the other if you were unfamiliar with the groups themselves or teen culture back then.Emily Chu said:I suppose so... but why does it all sound the same ? To be fair, I do think "Kokomo" is a decent song. I put that bit in as a bit of a joke since I don't think there are that many popular bands whose entire output I openly despise (apart from Creed or The Vengaboys).revolverjgw said:

Not having read the book I might be way off base here, but how did the change in consumption of music have much bearing on overall quality?ViperVisor said:Yes.
Steve Knopper - Appetite for Self-Destruction (The Spectacular Crash of the Record Industry in the Digital Age)
After getting through that book it is hard to argue things are not worse overall. The consolidation that has happened the last 30 years and then the build up of short sighted stupid stuff in the 90s.

That's definitely true. But also, the genres that are more favored: hip hop, techno, dance, etc. have a lot to do with that as well.ViperVisor said:Consumption hasn't really changed since the boom of the CD, people were only listening to 1 or 2 songs on a 15 tack CD. It just now bypasses paying for the filler.
There was a couple notes about how a music producer and Bob Dylan thought the consumption through ear phones and computer speakers did sorta have a stealth change in making things more more more and louder.
Oh yeah, definitely. It's easy for people like us who post on forums where we're constantly linked to youtubes of songs to point out that there's plenty of good stuff being made today, but a lot of people simply don't know how to go about such a thing. And I can say to them "Just go on the internet!", but it's not that easy... You do need some experience with that.Blackace said:How to get people to consume said music seems to be one of the issues I believe.. I never read it also tho..
# 11 on my top 100 songs of the 60s. To the 47 dislikes. Sorry that tis classic song does's sounds like the garbage you like today you call music. You're not true music fans that like the art & message it sends. You just like that sexy sound that makes money, which will end up in discount bin in 30 yrs. While this song will live on for years. If only you open up your eyes & ears to timeless classics like this song& appreciate it. Now Wouldn't It Be Nice .
