Last night I get home from the gym and I'm sitting on the couch scrolling through Facebook when my 5yr old niece walks up to me and out of no where says "Where is your brother?" I told her "your father is at home, he is my brother" and she looks at me puzzled and says "No. My daddy isn't your brother, where is choo choo xxx"
She was referring to my ex(she could never say uncle, so she called him choo choo xxx),The last time my ex saw her was before her 4th birthday, and she has never mentioned him until now, which I figured she forgot about him. The room got dead quiet... the conversation went like this.
Me - Oh sweetie he is home.
Her - I miss him. He needs to come here!
Me - It's not that simple I'm afraid.
Her - He needs to come color and play play-doh with me!
Mom - I really miss him
Me - I do too.
Dad- has there been any contact between you two?
Me - No.
Dad - Yeah, I really liked him.
It's rough because it was hard enough coming out, but I have never had that conversation with my dad, and for him to accept us, and love him/accept him is what is gut wrenching. I didn't expect it to hit me as hard as it did, but it did. I cant wrap my head around how she remembered him.
How big we talking? Like this big?

Thanks for the well-wishes, all! We're going to go to the salon and then eat really big cheeseburgers to celebrate!
