Life is Strange | Spoiler Thread

What if @Ep05, we have to restart Ep01? Max took a selfie in the class.

The Episode 5 menu has the photo max was originally going to submit for the contest but instead ripped up in the bathroom before Chloe and Nathan came in.

Seems likely to go back to that point in episode 1. There is also the butterfly photo.

Motherfucker shot my waifu. I knew the hot older guy shouldn't be trusted. They're always involved in some freaky shit.

At this point, there are many questions with very little answers. There are tons of supernatural/weird elements (time travel powers, tornado, dying animals, the doe, double moon, etc.) in the story that I'm not sure if they're all unique (or some are unique) or there is going to be one catch-all explanation for everything. And how they tie in to what Nathan/the Prescotts and Jefferson are trying to do.

Is Episode 5 going to be especially long? I hope Dontnod doesn't disappoint.

  • Blue butterfly
  • High school setting
  • Teenager with supernatural powers
  • Teenagers playing detectives
  • High school kids being targeted/murdered
  • Seemingly innocent culprit
  • Relationship systems
  • Apocalypse scenario mixed with crime
It's all there!

The whole "End of the World party" seemed so Persona-esque too. Persona x Life is Strange crossover when?

Jefferson was actually foreshadowed quite a bit, it's not really an asspull. Consider these:

YT1kxlh.png

Also, he's apparently a great photographer teaching in a small town where we find there's a place called the "dark room" which immediately links to photography, and then when we find out it's a bunker and not actually a dark room, it's still very much linked to photography. The letter above is found on the computer in the dark room and at first is dismissed as being from Nathan's father. Looking back though, it doesn't exactly fit the way Mr. Prescott writes to his son, nor is it signed by him like the other letters are. It feels off and is one of the many hints. There's also the call Mr. Jefferson took in Episode 2 after harshly sending Kate away, there's the fact that we could blame him instead of Nathan or David when in the principal's office, there's the fact he was at the boy's dorm when we were looking for Nathan as he was at the party when we were doing the same, and there's the fact his car was one of the four tracked by David. He's got his spot in the scrapbook and seems to be an important character yet hadn't done much major so far. He wasn't so obvious that most guessed it, but there's still a few people that had their suspicions so it isn't a complete random thing.

Where is that letter located? Don't think I've ever seen it.

Speaking of the dark room, in one of the texts in the alternate timeline (wheelchair Chloe), Max is talking to Nathan and she mentions that she's taking pictures in the dark room. I think she mentioned it was located in Mr. Jefferson's classroom.

That picture always seemed important to me, besides me just liking it a lot. Kind of represents Max interfering with the timeline, but maybe it can be used to go back to the beginning.

I think starting the episode from someone else's point of view is plausible, opening up something new from the plot that only Rachel/whoever else has witnessed could be something they pull here.

Speaking of what we know about the next episode, what exactly would "Polarized" imply here? A few things, probably. I feel like it has something to do with how Max goes back in time with the photos.

So we've one more place to go. It's in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, below the Lighthouse, the Dark Room and the Ranch. It might be relating to the south of town or beach or it might be relating to someplace not in Blackwell as that's the column used for such locations.

Maybe it's because she can only go through pictures taken by a Polaroid™ branded instant camera so Polarized is supposed to hint that we'll be going through a past picture.

But in all seriousness Polarized seems to imply a state of contraries/opposition, maybe in regards to some characters/endings.

Or in fields relevant to Life is Strange's symbolism, themes and world...
"(Optics). a state, or the production of a state, in which rays of light or similar radiation exhibit different properties in different directions."
"(Physcis) restrict the vibrations of (a transverse wave, especially light) wholly or partially to one direction."
"To design so as to permit light only of a certain polarization"
"The transverse electric and magnetic waves always vibrate at right angles to each other, but in ordinary unpolarized light sources, the direction of polarization of each wave is randomly distributed. Light can be polarized by reflection, and by passing through certain materials."

I'm pretty sure Polarized will be referring to time itself, or something else than just its basic photography sense, similarly to how dark room was used.

when should we expect the final ep? want it so bad

Well the gaps up to two and three were about 8 weeks each I think, but ep 4 took about 10. Hopefully ep 5 is at least as long as ep 4, so unfortunately it'll probably be about ten weeks? This is all just guesswork.

It could come out in October for hella game symmetry.

..I wish it came out now :(

Lol that actually came to mind first

That Physics definition is what intrigued me, whenever Max travels in time the photo vibrates and all that. Perhaps something will happen where a photo is destroyed in the process, maybe she's had to use it more than once, who knows. But that might be what causes some sort of timeline mess up, and go on to cause whatever will pull at our heartstrings.

I'm curious? What would you guys consider a disappointing ending?
That Max is dead, and she's been sent back to Earth (for some reason) to make up for her sins. The only way she can do this is by helping those around her. She's a guardian angel, of sorts. Her 'unexplained' power is the power she's gifted by God. It's 'unexplained' because, Sixth Sense-style, she doesn't realise she's dead.

OK, thats shit.

Could also be how when she's rewinding time she goes against the linear flow that others perceive of time. How from one direction the light (time) cannot be perceived but from the other it can. That's how some choices can be better made. That may also be how she perceives the deer, the future storm, etc. Or it's about how she can see inside the past through a photograph but what is in that past isn't aware of the future now interacting with it. I don't know. There's a lot it could be used symbolically for.

Yup, all makes sense. The ambiguity of this game is so good, makes stuff more interesting.

Max has to go back to her selfie in class and never interfere in the bathroom, letting Chloe die, Kate die, and Mr. Jefferson to continue his rampage of kidnapping and murder.... all because if she tries to stop any of it, she'll destroy the world. "Best not to interfere, and let nature take its course. Everyone dies someday anyway, who cares if they don't deserve to die young in horrific ways. It's not your responsibility to save the people you love if it goes against nature. This is the great wisdom from a bunch of nebulous dead Native Americans that we've created out of thin air, and why you were given this power --- to learn the lesson. And here's Rachel transforming from spirit deer into spirit girl to really convince you that letting go is a good idea. Go spread the word. Fuck you."

hey about Max using a pic from earlier to go back in time too fix things. Like when she uses the pic to time travel isnt it limited in a sense that she can only go in the area the picture was taken in? like when you go back in time to young max the outside of the house is pure white and so is the doorway as if she only has the moment to change things. Like if she uses warrens picture to go back in time the most she can do is tell someone about jefferson or warn chloe that jefferson is the killer and hope she killed him first when she leaps back to the present. It shouldnt be possible for her to go back and live the rest of that night over again.

Maybe, or the white light just indicates that that's the point of no return. So when William steps out the door, Max can no longer do anything to save him. If he doesn't leave, he's fine, but Chloe is screwed later on. Anyway the developers weren't going to put in anything too drastic during that part, and I really doubt the story is gonna have Max make drastic changes across the whole night during the party. That seems a bit too ambitious, plus unnecessary as we know small changes can have drastic effects.

Even if it's limited she's with Chloe and Warren when that photo is taken, and could change the past simply by informing them (or just her) about Jefferson.

So...who has the photo, exactly?

I kinda hope Max had it so Jefferson could burn it, taking away the option that many see as an obvious out.

Warren wanted the photo so in all likelihood he has it. So basically, game opens with Max half drugged, slowly regaining her powers, she escapes somehow (probably via Nathan as an option depending on your choices regarding him), tracks down Warren.

There are choices that can make nathan anything other than antagonistic? I dont see why nathan of all people would help max, his freedom depends on her dying as things are now.

There aren't choices that make him non-antagonist, but the same is true of Victoria and Frank really, and in the previous episode your outcome of conversations with them is dependent on how you treated them, especially Victoria. So if you for instance, stop Warren from beating the shit out of Nathan, it'll be a +2 Nathan Scorecard behind the scenes. So just like with the fate of Kate, Frank, and Victoria believing you, it'll be determined based on a combination of previous encounters and knowing the right thing to say, with people that treated them nicely having a much easier time. Nathan's one of the few characters to be at the center of many choices that hasn't really had a payoff moment yet, along with David and obviously Jefferson and Chloe, so I expect Nathan and /or David to payoff early in the episode so the rest can be devoted to more important characters.

As for why he would help her, he's not thinking logically. He's clearly wracked with guilt over what his life has spiraled into. Being involved with Rachel's death has broken him already, now add Chloe and probably Max and I don't think he'll be able to take it.

Nathan is as neutral as he can get if you don't tell the principal about the gun and get him suspended (I don't believe you can blame him for Kate if you don't tell about the gun, and YOU will actually end up suspended instead). And by neutral I mean he doesn't leave his psychotic messages on your wall along with the dead doe pic.

I dont know about all that, hes still doing the same behaviour to other women when hes supposed to be wracked with guilt. Couldnt have cared less about kate when she died as a result of his actions. Didnt he also pose with rachels dead body? While he is mentally unstable he does still seem to know what hes doing .

A criminal that still does their awful actions despite pangs of regret is hardly uncommon in fiction. He's retreated into a haze of drugs but all signs point to an increase in his psychosis in recent times (as in, post Rachel death) and we've seen background info that shows he is fixated on it. He's apparently having outbursts in public about his secret rapey club. This is not someone okay with what he's doing, even if he tries to put up a show about it.

There's actually a character Nathan seems to be clearly modeled inspired by in the TV show Veronica Mars, which is clearly a big inspiration for LiS. Similar appearance and backstory, commiting awful crimes, questionable relationship with an older male authority figure warping his life.

Who? Logan?

Not really. He could simply destroy all of Max's possessions to give the sense that she just up and left without a trace.

Would still be a bit contrived. Like why do that before.

Also, about Frank's buyer list. There was a mention of a "Katie" quite a few times. Was this meant to be Kate? Was Frank close enough to Kate to call her by a nickname? (Max doesn't do that, iirc, and they're pretty close) Anyone got any more info on that?

David will save you and die in the process

Definitely.

Totally loving the time travel stuff and mood of this game.
Seems like I did everything right so far with vic and frank beeing friendly now.
Poor Chloe died 3 times already, though... Nathan is still a wildcard.

I kinda regret buying this game now and not waiting a couple more weeks, because that was one mean cliffhanger. Jefferson rubbed me the wrong way from the beginning.
