Life is Strange | Spoiler Thread

That handicap fund is really ironic at the end. Now how will Rachel tie into this. Maybe will see her in the vortex.
Chloe bitching about everything is really aggravating. Saw the kiss in the leaked footage. I don't see how this ties in it.....

That ending blew me away. It was not what I expected at all.

I wonder if it'll somehow just be a dream? Or maybe they'll back out of it somehow? It'd really change things up, especially with the whole Rachel Amber disappearance being the focus thus far.

Jesus, whenever I think I'm getting my bearings the game throws a complete curveball every time. I did not see that end twist coming, and I have no idea what it means for the future. I imagine that we'll find some way to get back to the real timeline, even though for me it's the darkest timeline because kate is dead and I blamed Jefferson :/ but bizarro-world doesn't seem all that much better in many ways, and animals are still dying.

Another 10/10 episode for me, though. Seriously, this game keeps getting better.

I'm assuming that if you're in this thread right now, you've finished episode 3, because WHY ARE YOU HERE IF YOU HAVEN'T. I'll tag potential spoilers from the episode 4 teaser, but not anything from episode 3. You've been warned.

If you stayed until after the credits (is it even possible to skip the post-credits scene?)
it seems pretty clear that they find a way to reset. Max is wearing her old clothes again, not Rachel's outfit nor her Vortex Club outfit. That actually kind of makes me sad because it undercuts the ending, though I'm sure you'll spend at least some time in the new timeline.

One thing that makes the game a little odd is how Max's abilities seem to be changing very subtly. Unless I'm remembering the old episodes incorrectly (and I very well might be) this is the first episode that relies on you being able to position yourself somewhere and then rewind time so that you're in the same spot physically, even though at that point in time there's no way you could've been there. This episode contains two such sequences at least, and it's a little weird that Max's ability to retain information she sees before rewinding has now extended to objects and places she interacts with. Don't know if that's intentional (no one in the game ever seems to comment on it) or if it's sloppy game design on Dontnod's part.

Also: 80% of you kissed Chloe? Horndogs. I especially like the response Chloe gives you if you don't. (Dear Chloe: Yeah I did.) Overall, a really well done episode. I will say the ending was pretty predictable once Max jumps into the photo timeline (and especially once they show Chloe's birthday present).

animals are still dying.

Oh yeah, what the hell is up with all those dead birds in Chloe's backyard? Creepy.

Of course we did. When I played, 100% had.

Good catch with the different set of clothes in the final scene, too.

Oh yeah, what the hell is up with all those dead birds in Chloe's backyard? Creepy.

Dead animals were turning up all over. The parking lot to the diner also had a bunch of dead birds in it, and the bay itself full of dead sea life... The ending being the kicker with the whales.

Anywho, as soon as William called Chloe I had fully expected her to be in the condition that she was... Just that feeling of prevent one bad thing and the universe will find a way to replace it. I almost teared up though, seeing Chloe like that really hit me hard... The game is so well written and the characters feel so real to me that it has affected me more than I would have ever thought. I very much am loving the game and cannot wait until Episode 4.

Oh, also, worth mentioning: I love love love that this game avoids one of my dumb personal pet peeves: people have MORE THAN ONE SET OF CLOTHES. Granted, Max is wearing someone else's clothes, I guess, but people have jammies in this universe and Joyce has street clothes and I'm not sure but even Alyssa might have had a different outfit on. Which actually makes it a letdown that Max has her hoodie back at the very end. Surely the girl has more than one hoodie.

(yes I know no one else cares about characters dressing themselves like normal human beings and not like they have seventeen of the exact same outfit in their closet but I care dammit)

well that was unexpected

pretty sure the reality will be restored pretty soon, otherwise the choices in this and the previous episodes wouldn't matter. Neat surprise, though
I hope I'm not the only one who was expecting
Chloe to look like Rachel at the end.
That'd have been even more fucked up.
if anything, the signs point to Max being Rachel - same clothing size

that was already in the first episode, when you dodged the rock and trees in the forest

They've just sort of been weirdly inconsistent with the gameplay aspects of her powers it seems like. Not that I mind here, I think this episode had the best puzzles so far, but it does feel a bit counter intuitive to the rules established earlier.

What an excellent ending, I hope Episode 4 doesn't revert everything back too quickly, I'd like to spend time in the new timeline.

Also, Chloe was pretty good this episode, much better than Episode 2

I don't really think that's confirmation given Max could change her clothes and she's a member of the Vortex club; it would make more sense that she would get into the party in her current reality. I could see the player having to make a choice about which reality ends up being the cannon one.

I'm really interested in seeing how Chole's portrayed in the next episode because having a realistic portrayal of a disabled person in a game would be rad. The handicapped are probably the least represented in gaming and when they are their disability tends to play no role e.g. crazy future tech makes them super strong cyborgs.

I think this too. Rachel only showed up in Chloe's life after Max left, and then she disappears before Max comes back. It's like Max went back in time and lived out her life with Chloe as Rachel.

The Rachel is Max theory doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Like, what's the jist? Plastic surgery? She goes back in time and improves the gene pool in her bloodline? They're both 18 year olds that look nothing alike.

Besides, Rachel mentions being a Leo in a note to Frank, and going by the text message from Max's dad, she was born in late September, making her a Virgo.

If anyone is a displaced time traveller it's the homeless lady outside the diner. She could fite the profile of either character in a few decades time, she seems to know a lot, and you're given the option to confide in her about the visions.

The game really, really, really wants me to like Chloe and I still can't stand her. In fact, I think she was even more irritating in Episode 3. It'll be interesting to see how the changes to the timeline affect her and the entire town. I'm still having a good time, even if the writing is rarely subtle.

This episode in particular lost any real subtly and there is a lot of clumsiness. I like Chloe but she is damaged and I have a thing for damaged chicks lol

The writers are walking a fine line with Victoria, mostly making her awful but occasionally glimmers of humanity pop out. They don't even bother with people like Nathan and David, who are both pieces of human garbage. I wish they'd lower the histrionics a tad because it's hard to take the characters seriously when they're depicted so broadly.

Ya agreed. This new way things are going could really shake that up. And I hope it does. Even with the issues I have to say I have enjoyed the hell out of this series.

True, but the implication is that Max is a different person, so why would she even own those clothes in the first place? Unless she freaked out enough in the alternate timeline to immediately hunt down stuff that looks like her original clothing.

Besides which, there's an obvious reason why she'd get invited to the Vortex Club party in the original timeline too: she's their next Kate. I wouldn't be surprised if getting an invite or not had no bearing on whether you actually ended up at the party (but could affect something else).

Also curious to see what they do with Chloe.

Really think now that Mr. Jefferson is behind Rachel Amber's disappearance. when browsing the principles PC there was something mentioned about a "darkroom" which is very much photography related.

Didn't kiss Chloe, because I'm still not a huge fan of her even though this episode did a terrific job with truly making their friendship feel real and genuine.

They were trying to push the "Max=Rachel" theory with this episode (same clothes, being recognised as Rachel), but it's still as nonsensical as before. I'd be really disappointed if they'd try to pull that off somehow.

Ending was fantastic and I'm glad it didn't end with a wrap-up montage like the previous episodes.

Everyone else get that part where Victoria tries to moneybodyhat Jefferson when you're about to sneak into the school with Chloe? Holy shit that girl is persistent. Good on Jefferson for refusing, felt kinda bad about blaming him in episode 2.

Speaking of the kiss, Chloe pulled away before it landed though I've seen a pic of the kiss actually connecting. Just a fake or did anyone else get the kiss to connect?

Umm... fuck.

I kinda had the expectation of it being a sad ending given away thanks to Dontnod's constant retweeting of praise for the episode with one such tweet noting it as a sad ending. But fuck, I didn't expect it to be in that way.

I thought they'd have Max at the door, William come and greet her after five years in Seattle and ask where Chloe's at only for William to say 'Chloe died... she died x years ago'.

But fuck, I did not expect it to end the way it actually did. Jesus, that was heartwrenching. First time I teared up at a game since The Last of Us in 2013. Jesus.

I was worried after episode two Dontnod would struggle to maintain consistency for the rest of the season, but bloody hell, that was knocked out - at least for now anyways - with this episode.

If I had to score each episode so far:

Episode One - 7/10
Episode Two - 9/10
Episode Three - 10/10

I'm expecting a slight drop in episode four to build to a massive finale in the autumn - similar to how the first season of Telltale's The Walking Dead was with its fourth episode - but even for its all of its issues and even though we're in the middle of May, I think I can safely say this is starting to run away as my game of the year.

No Man's Sky, The Witcher III or whatever else is coming out by Christmas - or announced at E3 for Christmas - will have to do something special because this is going to take some beating so far.

One last thing on the ending: YES! I was hoping Dontnod would use Mogwai's Kids Will Be Skeletons as an episode finishing song since I first heard it when they unveiled the soundtrack. I was perhaps hoping for them to use it from start to finish, but it's a five minute song so perhaps for the best it was cut.

That said, I was so glad that started playing. Its actually another reason why I loved the ending as much as I do.

Okay, just finished Episode 3, and what the shit, guys? Did not fucking see that coming from a mile off.

I get the feeling that Episode 4 is going to involve Max having to restore the original timeline, and face up to her responsibilities.

Also, the handicap fund thing, especially considering the ending, was a bit on the nose. But a nice touch.

As soon as I got thrown back in time to save the dad I KNEW it would have a huge butterfly effect. You can't mess with the timeline, Max, the effects could be huge.

Still felt good to save him, though. Seemed like a cool dad. Made me miss my own.

Speaking of the kiss, Chloe pulled away before it landed though I've seen a pic of the kiss actually connecting. Just a fake or did anyone else get the kiss to connect?

I don't think there is a way. Although you can influence her somehow through the episode, so maybe? It's just a detail, but in my first playthrough she didn't have Max's pic on her phone, second time she did. Probably based on that handicap fund decision or something.

IMO, the new timeline is much worse. The OG timeline has issues, with birds/fish, but the new timeline has much bigger problems.

New Timeline

I hope this doesn't effectively make all our choices pointless.

I doubt it, they're not going to undo the whole timeline and leave the mysteries created unsolved.

What will happen is Max will be almost obliged to return things to the way they were before. I think Chloe being disabled pretty much guarantees that will happen. I mean, Max has a choice: revert things to the way they are and kill Chloe's dad, or have Chloe paralysed from the neck down. I think what she'll learn is that while, on the surface, things look better in this reality, the fact is that it's more fucked up (I think you only need to compare the dead whales in the new reality to the dead birds in the original one to see the magnitude of how things are fucked up in this new reality). It's all ~symbolism~ and shit.

However, she will gain some insights about the original timeline thanks to this new one, which will lead in to the finale.

I am not discounting Dontnod throwing us another curveball, however. They've been good at those.

I actually actively try to bring Max and Chloe together while simultaneously torpedoing Warren's attempts. Pretty much everyone noticed that Max is really jealous of Rachel

Bah, I must have rewound too far while hiding the keys and erased the message on the fireplace. I guess it'll be hard to prove my time travel abilities to Chloe again in Episode 4.

Chloe's room is full of symbolism when you stop and look at it...

And the phrase over the bed on the wooden panel seems important - especially when the Platinum trophy for finishing the game is called.
What If?

WTF is up with that ending! :O

Also Lol at the 80% making Max kiss Chloe xD Screw Warren.

They have far more chemistry together than Max and Warren I think. I think Max and Chloe are super cute together and the whole time I was yelling "JUST KISS". Especially in the pool haha

I'm not getting the Chloe/Max vibe. Max comments on "cute guys" etc all the time (not to say she cant like both).

Chloe though, more going on with Rachel than she lets on. Her freak out on the RV cements it. I think she likes girls, but is really just friends with Max.
