I'm guessing it goes something like this:

- Open box, sees soundtrack CD and a voucher for the regular edition of Ori
- Proceeds to freak out, doesn't see that the soundtrack is stacked on top of the disc for the Definitive Edition
- Posts review on Amazon

Yeah, it shows it clearly on this unboxing video.

Can someone confirm if non-US copies are the same? They should be and some people freaked out about nothing, but you never know.

Ori comes with two disks, the soundtrack and the actual game. The disks are just stacked up. The soundtrack disc was on top for me, so most people probably just don't realize that there is a second disc beneath.

Edit: There are no non-US copies. The XO retail is an US exclusive. Just the PC-Version was released worldwide.

Question:

Would people freak out if LRG did a few Steelbook releases?

I assume a lot of people would still want to make sure that a regular edition exists, but would you be ok with a Steelbook existing on top of the regular version, say for an extra $5? Would you buy that?

As an extra, absolutely.

I wouldn't have a problem with the option existing. I might be a little miffed if the only option were a steelbook and I "had" to pay a premium for it. As long as I could still get a regular edition at the regular price, though, I'd be cool with it. (...and there could be cases where I'd want a steelbook too, but that's not a huge selling point for me in general.)

Yeah, my fear with a Steelbook-only release (although I would personally love it) is that a LOT of people would probably not be into that at all, so I think it's a non-starter.

But as an extra? I think it would be nice. I would certainly prefer that over a tie, for example. I love Steelbooks, and it allows for super-clean, art-only boxes.

I kinda wish they would go back and make Steelbooks for the SMRPG + Oddworld + Futuridium + Octodad releases, and have that be a standard extra going forward.

Probably too much to ask from the company at this point, though, since it adds more risk and inventory to deal with.

But just imagine a whole series of Steelbooks with minimalist art to complement the regular releases :)

I'm personally not into steelbooks, but I'd be annoyed if I'd "miss" on it. It's amusing how the human mind works.

Yep, it's so weird. I mentioned earlier that I wasn't interested in Xeodrifter, but even the thought of skipping that is making me uncomfortable knowing there'd be a gap in my collection.

At the same time though, with all of the games that LRG is signing - and presumably them releasing games on more platforms - the complete collection dream will have to die sometime lol.

Making licensed Steelbooks with cool art as extra merchandise seems like it could be a good idea. Not sure why no one really does that.

There is just way too many LRG releases on the pipeline to keep a full collection running forever IMO. We're looking at 10 releases so far and 50+ on the pipeline. This is going to speed up QUICK!

I was half-hoping that the visual novels would be offshoots with their own numbering and as a separate line so I could ignore them, but it seems like that's not happening.

As long as I can order standard editions with affordable prices, I don't mind. I'll keep buying the Vita releases for a complete collection, as long as it doesn't get to the point where there are three or more new releases every month.

Missed the morning batch since I was spending time with my father (lol). Wondering if I should place an order for the tie edition just in case.

My bank just blocked my LRG order because they thought it was fraudulent lol. Had to text them to tell them it was me.

Last time this happened was when I ordered of VG+ for the first time. Clearly they haven't figured out that I import a lot of games yet.

Yeah, the Hotline Miami release in Japan was disappointing. I still ended up with a copy as I love the box art they used. I'm somewhat glad that at least the first game got a physical release, as that one was my favourite of the two games, but it was annoying that the second game was relegated to a slip of paper...

I appreciate you telling me about this, I had no idea there was a physical release of the first game. It appears to be in english too, awesome! Cheers.

Seeing a bunch on ebay already lol. I don't think these games actually sell at crazy $100+ prices. I've seen SMRPG and Futuridium go for ~$50. If people are buying these just to flip them I think doing it right away is a mistake. You need to play the long game and wait for the collector market to really develop.

I don't think we would even have to worry about Vita games getting steelbook editions, so I won't even bother getting into the whys/why nots.

I've always been under the impression that the people who look to flip these games don't really have the money to invest, they're just looking to make a quick buck.

Oh, not talking about just steelbooks, LRG manifested interest in limited editions.

I'm not much for Limited Editions either. There's a few I have and wonder why, and maybe a couple that I wouldn't mind having. It's gotta be a game I already love to death, really.

Got my order for the two PS4 and two Vita in. Yay me! I'm awesome!

Shipping went up to $15. Something about a Heavy Charge. I'm okay with that. Just make sure they're shipped in the sleeves to prevent bumpage.

Oh, I just noticed you can order 2 now. Might go for it and buy 2 copies for Vita. Is that $15 shipping to Canada? Or is that US?

Ontario, Canada.

But I technically ordered 4 games. So, that's probably why the $15. Last time it was $11 shipping to Canada for two.

Yup, got one, too. Phew. Just got one since I didn't like the gameplay vid I saw, so it'll just be for collection purposes.
