That's what Mike Bithell said way back when the announcement happened, I think when he was on Kinda Funny around the same time. That it would ideally be when Volume Coda is finished and ready to press too.

Thought maybe it was happening because VR is out now.

I'd be happy not having to buy another Vita game this month anyway.

Absolutely. Volume is my jam. Very addictive game with a cool concept and a ton of style. On the surface it's VR Missions with a great theme, but when you get good enough at it, it's also Pac-Man. I got sooo hooked on setting times on the leaderboards both times it came out.

I love buying LEs on Amazon at or below MSRP still sealed, from people that sat on it for a long time and thought they could cash in :) Turns out that I guess those titles had little demand...

Of course not. But, there are tons of games that have gone up in value over the years and have a current resale value many times over the original cost, even factoring in inflation. It's something many of us who collect struggle with on a daily basis as it's very hard to determine which games to buy at release and which ones can be purchased later at a sharp discount.

This is an almost non factor for games since the PS3 (even PS2 really) era. "Rare" isn't what it used to be. The vast majority of games released since then can be found relatively cheap.

So aside from obvious limited runs, that shouldn't be a huge worry anymore. And even then, only one or two of LRG's games has hit the >$100 mark no?

The big savings from getting older cheap games should easily make up the markup of a couple truly limited release you miss in their prime.

Now if you wanted to wait 30 years....

Let's be real here, buying LRG releases is a perfectly viable investment option. The profit will, Imo, most certainly match the average of a person dealing with stocks for example. Obviously a professional will make a lot more from stocks but for a regular person I think it's a very safe and good investment. If it's a dick move or not is a whole nother topic.

And the first print still sells for $100+ on eBay. Not sure how much they were going for before but in the long run the price can only go up.

The sold prices pre-reprint were about $140 - $150. Prices on the first print have been extremely resilient as desite more than doubling the available inventory pool (from 2,000 -> 5,000+) the original print is still fetching $100 - $120 on sold listings. Even the gold cover reprint which was available for several weeks is pulling about twice its sticker price. It's kind of nuts, honestly.

It's a different print after all. If you are going for a full collection, you probably want to have both releases in your shelf. If you just want to play the game, nothing stops you from picking up the game for 5 bucks or less at the next digital sale.

I never said it's a big deal, only that there's been a decrease in value which there has.

I'm all for reprints of games like Soldner that sold out way too fast.

OWH came with a loose disc - I was actually kind of interested in playing this so I guess I'm not too disappointed, but I vaguely recall reading in this thread they were bringing shipping in house to prevent this - has that happened yet? 2 of my last 3 (or 4?) purchases came loose.

Bringing shipping in house was never meant to prevent loose discs. It's not a preventable problem. There is a good video that was recently posted on the LRG forums that shows how to safely reseat a disc if you aren't going to open the wrap.

I don't think there's anything you CAN do to prevent PS4 discs from coming loose except redesign the PS4 case. Like 1 out of 6 PS4 games I order online from ANY retailer arrives loose.

Loose discs aren't a shipping problem. Sometimes the discs just... come loose. It's the way the cases are. I guess you could call it a manufacturing problem or something but... it just happens sometimes.

So yeah, bringing shipping in house isn't going to solve that.

What they did say though is that they aren't shipping out any that have been delivered to them already loose, and they've spoken to Sony about it.

That's simply not accurate. I agree with you that the ratio is not what it was in the 8 bit or 16 bit or even 32 bit era, but there are still many limited editions, collector's editions and small print run games that sell out and are never reprinted and the resale prices are at least 2X MSRP. In the long term, it's probably cheaper to just pay the inflated resale price and wait for everything to drop as 80%+ of games eventually do fall below MSRP, but if you hate dealing with resellers, there really is no way to avoid buying stuff now, even if most of it will drop in price eventually.
 
Though coincidental, this is a good move for LRG. With 12K copies, moving VoIume to November to give the spotlight to Shantae should help get those copies sold quicker. I was planning to pick up the Shantae games, but after considering how much I've spent the past month, I'll be passing on them, especially since I'm buying Pirate's Curse on 3DS and I've read that Risky's Revenge is kind of a lackluster port (and I have it on Steam).

I guess I just don't see 2xMSRP as being that crazy compared to what prices can be for truly rare titles.
But what I am genuinely curious about is which other recent small print games are going for high prices now? (aside from LRG of course)

CE/LE versions of games being harder to find I can understand, but most games are readily available.

Yep. I needed it, finally. Been many years of consistent Vita releases even before LRG, and after this month with Shantae, World of FF, DQB & Yomawari my pre-orders for Vita games are cleared.

Since all I'm 100% certain to be getting in the next few months is Dark Souls 3 DLC, FF15 & Last Guardian... getting an LRG Vita release in November or December won't be a big budgeting crunch.
 
Shantae games are awesome and I need both in spite of owning digital copies of the two already. Mostly on the LRG train for the Vita but these are among the PS4 games I'm legitimately happy LRG picked up.
 
I kinda hope there are multiple Vita games in December. Yeh, my wallet is getting battered with other stuff, but I always have some budget set aside from LRG titles :P
 
I love the Shantae series and can't wait to get these. It will be my very first LRG purchase. I also really want the soundtracks even though I know I don't need them haha. I just wish that I had jumped on this earlier.

My goodness, I second this request! Since launch, I've quickly become infatuated with everything that it has to offer from the concept, visual presentation and apprehensive soundtrack. Probably rivals my interest with VA-11 Hall-A as my most anticipated possibility from the digital realm. However, iam8bit has already claimed stake to the musical portion of the experience with their vinyl edition. I suppose that'll exacerbate matters with negotiating a CD variant, but I almost wish they'd publish a physical version of the game just for the chance of getting awesome cover art like their edition. In the end, though, I sincerely hope someone will seize rights for a disc version.
