NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
I'm not personally particularly prone to lists.

Life is inherently dynamic hence making lists are truly tough to make.

No disrespect to anyone who does. It's just not something I'm drawn towards I suppose.

Sarcastic.
Not being sarcastic, bro.
I was recently going over a top list of jrpgs a few years ago and saw how much my tastes have evolved/changed.
So yeah, lists can be fun, but they are also ephemeral.

I was really excited for eiyudan Chronicles but I don't know if I can hang. I played ff1 and 2 last year on the collection and I don't like turn based as much as I used to.

Kinda have to be in the right mood now. Good for.podcast listening though

Most influential games in my life (probably):
  1. Gran Turismo 2
  2. Donkey Kong Country
  3. Final Fantasy 9
  4. Tekken 3
  5. Rollercoaster Tycoon
  6. Half Life 2
  7. Sonic 2
I'll add mine:
  1. Golvellius
  2. Ultima 4
  3. Gears of War
  4. Baldur's Gate
  5. Doom
  6. Quake
  7. Syndicate
  8. Final Fantasy 8
  9. Warcraft 2
  10. Need for Speed 2 Special Edition
  11. Sin & Punishment 2
  12. Forza Horizon 2
  13. Ori and the Blind Forest
  14. Heroes of Might & Magic 3
  15. Age of Wonders
Not completely sure about the correct order after number 3.

What's remarkable is that Gears, S&P2, Forza Horizon and Ori manage to compete with childhood memories like Ultima (which introduced me to WRPGs in 1991) - which makes sense, as they are mainly responsible for my re-discovered love for video games in the 2010s.

Hot list. I can imagine the fun you've had just by looking at your favorite games.

I should have added Homeworld on there. Science Fiction ruffled my feathers back then.

Hot list. I can imagine the fun you've had just by looking at your favorite games.

I should have added Homeworld on there. Science Fiction ruffled my feathers back then.
If am being honest, it's probably missing a few games from my childhood (i.e. nineties), as more or less every game is influential at that age, but it's a good representation. Even though some modern games manage to evoke similar feelings (I'm 45 now) - like the ones I listed -, it's still not exactly the same.

The feeling is mutual. Time, place, and moment was everything. We had magazines to guide us but we were left to our own devices to shape our own opinions on what was hot or not.

5. The Lion King (2019)
4. Avengers: Infinity War
3. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
2. Avatar: The Way of Water* (Disney distributed this one, so they profited)
1. Avengers: Endgame

* Two of the Tom Holland / Jon Watts Spider-Man films also grossed over a billion, but they're technically Sony films even though to my understanding Marvel Studios did all of the creative heavy lifting

I saw a list of all movies that grossed a billion dollars on IMDB, and I was surprised to see Disney dominated the list so thoroughly. The other 28 movies on the list are largely divided between Paramount and Warner Bros.

Stephen King Book Ranking

1. Different Season: A+ (First Book I read by him, 4 Novellas)
2. It: A+
3. Pet Semetary: A+
4. Wizard And Glass: A+ (Book 4 of TDT)
5. The Gunslinger: A+ (Book 1 of The Dark Tower)
6. Doctor Sleep: A+
7. The Stand: A
8. The Shining: A
9. The Talisman: A
10. The Wastelands: A (Book 3 of TDT)
11. The Drawing of The Three: A (Book 2 of TDT)
12. The Dark Half: A
13. Nightmare And Dreamscapes: A (Short Story Collection)
14. Wolves of The Calla: B+ (Book 5 of TDT)
15. The Bazaar of Bad Dreams: B+ (Short Story Collection)
16. Song of Sussanah: D (Book 6 of TDT)
17. The Dark Tower: F (Book 7 of TDT)

I'd switch a few in TDT around, but the general feel is about the same for me.

1) Wizard and Glass: S
2) The Drawing of the Three: A
3) The Wastelands: A
4) The Gunslinger: B
5) The Dark Tower: C
6) Wolves of the Callah: D
7) Song of Susannah: F

Wolves of the Callah is long and boring, Song of Susannah seems to never end despite being so short (it's just so awful), Dark Tower has some callbacks to give it some value and I was already inoculated to the worst stuff by SoS. The Gunslinger is fine but not really as polished as King's later (but pre-crisis) books.

Wizard and Glass is fucking fantastic. The Drawing of the Three has my favorite written scene in the series Jake's encounter with the rose in the lot..

Wolves of The Calla I actually give a B Grade due to feeling like it's not as good as the previous 4 books

Song of Sussanah I gave a D Grade because I hated the meta cameo of Stephen King. I hate when its done badly especially. But I'm usually not a fan of meta stuff in fiction. Even though I found the book mostly boring, I didn't give it an F Grade due to actually loving the part where Modread gets born and when he comes out, he starts hypnotising his mom and eating her alive. That part still sticks with me

The Dark Tower I gave an F Grade Because I mostly found it boring. The only parts I loved was when him and his crew are trapped by that Creature that's related to IT, from the same species but feeds on laughter instead of fear. Also when he goes into The Dark Tower and passing those rooms and than being forced to go back to the beginning. He's stuck in a timeloop but his memories are Erased. This time though he takes the horn so this might be the last Time loop. Even if the show ever gets made I hope its a sequel to the books and he actually is successful in the end

My issue with the last three Dark Tower books (I haven't read The Wind Through The Keyhole yet but I'm planning on reading it this year) I feel that ever since he got hit by that car and survived, he was in panic mode to finish the The Dark Tower series. I think that instead of releasing them in 2003 to 2004, he should have taken his time like he did with the previous four books and released Book five in mid 2010s and released Book six and seven in the 2020s

The reason why the books before were so good is because he took his time to make sure they were great
