Ha, this is actually a good one right here: the mental gymnastics that some people will perform to invalidate opinions they don't like. The whole "vocal minority" thing is a good example. A group of posters are putting down a game you like? Well, it got good reviews so they're just a vocal minority, they don't count! They're just nit-picking, elitist crybabies!

Not only is there absolutely no point in calling out a supposed "vocal minority", but it makes the poster look like an insecure manbabby.
Hypno cat is right.

If you can't at least articulate a coherent point long enough to say something as simple as "Here's why I liked this game, and feel the naysayers are wrong on a few key points." Blah blah, you need to be verbally smacked in the head. If you read it, you may learn something.

I do have issue with the way the majority elucidates those points though. Usually comes off more caveman, less modern man.

I've never understood what the hive-mind is supposed to mean? How is it any different from a majority agreeing on something?

And isn't the term only ever used by people upset that the majority doesn't agree with them?
When I use hive mind I mainly use it to refer to people who let their own views get disarrayed by the groups view, I believe this happens often on message boards. If I was to give an example of this on GAf, I'd probably use the evolution of the outlooks on Metal Gear Solid 4.

Arguing is about getting one's point across through persuasive argument. Just because some people use it as a venue for trolling doesn't mean we all do.

Oh I use the verb argue as "an attempt to convince someone that you are correct" :P So if you get into an argument you are most likely not prone to change your view or at least understand why the other holds his. Hence the whole point is getting the other angry.

Pun-GAF must be stopped. It's gotten out of control. There should be a three pun maximum on each thread, and if somebody posts a fourth, they should be arrested or killed or something.

Also when we have a "List your favorite _______" thread and someone comes in and says "Really? Nobody mentioned ________? For shame!" Yeah, that guy can go straight to hell.

I hate having limited use of certain features on forums. While I don't particularly mind being a Junior Member here, it's pretty annoying not being able to find my own most recent posts with the click of a link. (It simply tells me that I don't have access to that page, which makes it very difficult to pick up where I left off in a topic without subscribing to every single one that I post in.)

You should install this script. Makes it a lot easier to find your place.

Attention starved females who put "yes, I'm really a gurl hurrr" or some shit in their sig and feel the need to bring up their gender whenever possible. Fuck off. No one cares.

I hate the "Is this year the best year of gaming" threads... every fucking year.

I'm sure most Nintendo fans hate that.

Sorry Fernando I couldn't resist, I'm just messing with you :P

Anyway, "piss me off" is too far but I do get annoyed when people post random anime pictures/gifs in threads as an attempt to be funny I guess. It's probably because I don't watch that crap but they make absolutely no sense to me. On gaming side it would be when someone's bashing something western related and if you guess it's someone with an anime avatar you're about 60-70% right, at least in my experience.

Minor annoyances that usually just get eye-rolls from me really.

When there is a movie or music thread and people post pics of the characters or album covers without making clear the name of the character or film, album or band.

Especially obscure indie bands where the album cover is just a picture of a lobster or a cantalope or some shit. Fucking hell.

People generalizing a group of people, hating them or just kept bringing it up using it as argument, something something ponygaf, something something sadgaf, hivemind gaf, etc.

Example: "Gaf didn't like this and that, I was the only one that defended against it, all of a sudden now Gaf likes it!"

So many people just punched their computer screens lolol

One more thing, it's about reposting images from reddit in the funny pictures thread. To those who care enough to share their dismay at seeing the same picture twice: chill out. Just chill bro

But that was a funny joke.
What you find funny, someone else may find terribly offensive.

Honestly I should stop posting for at least a few hours.

I test their patience too often. Holiest of my lords. The closest thing to an unknowable God I can perceive. Evilore.

Have fun guys! Just leave my mess where it is. I'll clean it up later.

People who quote a whole post, only to add "This."

Shut up shut up shut up!

Depends how big the post is. Unless they're quoting something exceedingly long, "this" posts are more about giving the initial poster their due for saying what you were thinking. Which is also to say, "this" posts are a million times better than people who come into a thread and type out some elaborate post that says the exact same thing others have already said. It shows they read the thread before posting.

Not much. Although I find it annoying when someone posts an OP just ambiguous enough so that people argue for pages over semantics and their own prejudices, and the OP never comes in to clarify.

When people mass quote anything a mod says, whether it was intelligent or interesting or thoughtless, because they think they're gonna earn brownie points.

this is the one good thing about the removal of smiley's, no more quote chains of 10+ smiley's whenever a mod makes a bad joke

I find it really stupid when each page on a forum only has 10 posts per page or some shit. How are you even supposed to hold a conversation?

I'm looking right at you, LoL forums.

Runaway OPs are such garbage.

Guilty.

Fact of the matter is I'm here to read, mostly, and drop my two cents here and there. I have no time or patience to follow up on my posts. I just don't care enough. :shrug It's nothing personal.

Pretty much.

Game discussions get stupidly heated and I find I don't care enough to get mad that you didn't like a game I did. Cue thisisneogafdude.jpg

smh has its place.. most internet anagrams do.. it's all about what you're trying to convey.

If you are trying to convey that you are far too busy to type out "shake my head."

Which is sort of embarrassing because you're trying to save three whole seconds off your Internet message board posting time.

I am shaking my head in disbelief of your laziness. Someone already mentioned it, but using the excuse that the internet in general is not a space for professional writing because no one is going to grade it (or that this is not a "professional" essay or e-mail), is one of the most obnoxious, ignorant statements available. There is no excuse for being a twat.

language popularized on the internet, no matter the origin, can have usage beyond common utility.

have you heard of a phenomenon known as "LOL cats"?

.

I really don't like when girls act like their precious unicorns and appeal to the no girls on internet (except ME!!) crap. It shouldn't even be a surprise to find out someone is a girl. Its irrelevant.

And when guys act like bitches when they find out a girl posts with them, using extra emoticons/flirt humor and acting like its friendship time. Stuff like "oh you play this game too girl!!? have fun ^^" yes bitch video games are played sometimes. Now if you wanna send a pm like oh wow didn't know you were a girl, well that's ok, but don't burst into a conversation with that Camp HooHah shit.

Most of those individuals have somehow evaded the phenomenon known as growing the fuck up.
