LittleBigAgendas: Why didn't the mass market overlook LBP?

Not only just 1.3 million copies, but 1.3 million from Media Molecule which has only twenty-something people on staff, right? Not too shabby that.

Everyone I know I playing it, and a bunch of non-gamers who are buying the PS3 are getting this game first. This game will sell millions in the fullness of time.

Plus, it's a bloody fantastic game and I'm only talking about the levels on the disc. I expected nothing but have been WOWED a few times. Indian dancing lady level, the Russian wheel of pain, Japanese airship - the level design, graphical quality, and playability are all fantastic.

And it's HARD! I was surprised to see a game with such simple... dare I say casual controls could end up being so difficult towards the end.

I agree with everything, but also look at something like SMB for Nes. That was a hard game too imo. It was essentially a kids game and I could never beat it as a kid but I loved it.

I can't believe they havn't put this on PSN yet, make this 25$ on PSN and shareable and the sales will Skyrocket, I'm sorry but this is not a 60$ game not even close.

No kidding, the game should be $80.

Actually a demo of the first world would be great way to introduce people to the game. I'm having to lug the game around to friend's houses when 'hey dl the demo!' would be much easier.

I don't know if this means anything but up here in Canada, amazon.ca, Best Buy and Future Shop are all sold out of LBP.

For reference, Canada and California are about the same in terms of the size of their population and economy.

WTF? I've put more hours playing LBP than any game this year and there is always more content being released. If this isn't worth $60 what is? Another 6-8 hour shooter?

there are 60 levels in the game! thats a lot of levels man. i think a lot of people just think that its all user created levels, and you have to do your own level. MM emphasizes that because that's what separate them from other platformers. but there are 60 levels attached on this package and they are amazing and very creatively done. i'd pay 60 bucks for this game. in fact i already did.

Yes, should be $120.

And it's £25 in the UK.

Its a fun original platformer with a full set of story mode stages that arent half-assed, gives the user to create their very own game without prior programming knowledge, and actually incorporates true game changing DLC. What more do you want?

As far as the subject of sharing...wouldnt that lower sales?

Yeah I'm in Ottawa and BB and Future Shop are sold out near my place.

I bought my copy at BB a few weeks ago and got one of the last copies they had. If I hadn't noticed they had a few left in their big metal cage near the cash registers I would've thought it was sold out as well as the shelves were picked clean, and the reps told me they were out.

It's either selling well or Sony stopped shipping it here.

Whatever else LBP may be, it has more content and far more lifespan to it than a very large number of $60 "next-gen" games in the cookie-cutter genres that have come out over the last 3 years.

I beat Gears of War in 5 hours, got tired of its online play in 20.

I've probably played 40 hours of LBP story campaign and still not gotten everything yet, just as many hours of community stages, and am spending 2 hours a night learning how to build things and building levels in co-op with friends.

The content in LBP is more on part with a full featured PC game that includes a complete game editor suite and comprehensive online functionality. Quite impressive for an apparently simplistic platform game.

(But then, one could say that the best games have always been based on simple ideas that result in complex consequences.)

That's like, your opinion, man.

<3

And word.

I bought LPB a week or so ago and finally played it last night for only about an hour or two. I love the presentation but I wasn't impressed with the platforming, the first couple of levels where boring and lifeless. Then the game started growing on me, I really started to enjoy the platforming, it seemed very shallow at first but the more I played the more I enjoyed it. Although I'm concerned by the lack of interesting enemies and lack of some sort of projectile (eg: fireballs in mario). Do these appear later in the game or in user maps?

don't counter with the beta size either, i know how big it was, and i know that there is a lot of content missing from that.
if it was possible, sony would have already released it on PSN.

Unfortunately, the projectiles are added via the Metal Gear DLC. But the levels do get incredibly creative. :D

The first whole world is cute looking but nothing, play-wise. Get to the other worlds. In time you will cry. As for projectiles, you will be shot at but you don't shoot.

Good lord...

I remember arguing in this annoying thread with many people who basically just enjoyed insulting others.

LittleBigPlanet was basically just a scapegoat and excuse for people to air out their grievances and denigrate people for "fun".

The levels do keep getting better and better. It's one of the reasons why I think a demo should not be of the first couple of levels. I thought the game picked up pace at around the second set of levels. Then it really gets good at the third set. I've read a lot of people who said they didn't get the game based off of the beta SP levels, which is a shame since they're not representative of the entire game.

OOO ... iam220 get the MGS4 pack. It's 6 bucks and is well worth it.

He doesn't even need to, you can play with friends who have the DLC or in user created levels. I hate DLC content but I bought both Meta Gear packs, VERY FUN especially if you've played MGS4.

This game certainly wasn't overlooked. 1.3 million is a good number, but for a system's "savior" like many on GAF pronounced it to be, not to mention a system's big, exclusive holiday title that came out in late October, I can see why people predicted much, much more.

I think most of the LBP FTW people were sensible and predicted great sales but over a long period of time, a few were a little "enthusiastic" to say the least and they tend to be the most vocal on here - I think the majority are gonna be proved right:D

Really? every one at $60? source please.
nope.

I commend Sony for actually selling 1.3 million, but the sales still come off as a little underwhelming seeing that this game couldnt logically be stated to be developed on an average budget. This was suppose to be Sony's big gun for the holiday, it barely made a blimp on individual sales charts and just about managed a little over a million worldwide. The hype barely helped (if it even did?) drive PS3 hardware too.

a new challenger appears.

- 25 people made this. not hundreds. It had a lower budget than you're guessing, minus of course the advertising budget.

- It's lurked in the UK charts for 3 or 4 weeks now, often in or near the Top 10.

- The game is still selling. Its not 'just about' anything.

Next?

Are you kidding? The game essentially has unlimited levels.

Stop playing pranks on me! :(

It shipped 1.3 million units. Y2kev then made a joke about changing the title of the other thread to 'LBP failed to ship 1.4 million', hence where that number came from.
