Wich I have =3
...till it turns into dust ... wich is not very far considering how old it is xD

How inaccurate!

Soujirou was taller than Kenshin

Yeah, I never had any paraphernalia outside of manga volumes and the databook. I was never big on wearing my interests, so to speak.

Same here! I wasn't really into the fansite stuff though. I got most of my Kenshin stuff alot earlier too since I have the French version.

About the movie, it seems they're following the new manga alot. I thought Yahiko and Aoshi were both in though?

It wasn't so much the fansite as it was the forum itself for me. I was sixteen and I liked arguing about irrelevant stuff about who would beat up who. I actually ended up staying there for awhile - I was still posting regularly as recently as 2005 or 2006, though it was less about the show or manga by then and more about other stuff. It was my first introduction to a forum community, and I have quite a bit of nostalgia for it.

This is supposed to be the start of a trilogy right?

If so, i can see why they left out certain characters for this installment. I could only assume the next movie would have Shishio as the main villian, and include characters like Hiko sejuro, Misao. and Aoshi.

What would the third movie be about though? Enishi? Could they really fit either the kyoto arc or the Enishi arc into one movie?

Completed the whole Rurouni Kenshin anime including OVAs.

Holy shit Trust&Betrayal is better than the main show, feels like RK should've always been like that. And the other OVA, worst thing Ive seen. Was that supposed to be the conclusion to the series?

Nope, read the manga / bonus ending thing for the real ending. That OVA was not canon.

edit - I remember so mad after watching Reflection and its complete shitting on of everything the story was building to. Was so happy finding out it wasn't canon.

Thats good, over dramatized tearjerkers were never meant for Rurouni Kenshin and especially not in that way.

Yeah, I saw it last week. I can't give very detailed impressions because I'm at work, but I can say it was decent but a little disappointing.

The actors were all quite good matches for the characters I thought, especially Kenshin, but the biggest problem is that even with the way they compressed/played with the events of the first two story arcs, they didn't do a great job of establishing the characters outside of Kenshin. The biggest problem is that Kanryu is just as pathetic of a villian as he is in the original, yet they give him like 25 minutes of screen time while major characters get much less, it seemed like. The fight scenes were pretty impressive, and the Jin'e fight was really spot on. Probably the most disappointing aspect, though, was the music. For a property that's always had really impressive music, it's really flat here and poorly used in some places.

Anyway, it's worth a watch, and I wouldn't mind if they tried doing a sequel in more capable hands, but it's not great.

I'd give it a 7.5/10 if I had to assign a score.

This has just been shown in my country today and the girlfriend and I watched it a couple of hours ago.

The movie was long. Like, two and a half hours. Overall, if you're a fan of Rurouni Kenshin (anime or manga), you will find much to like here. It covered the first 2 arcs and while they took away a couple of semi-major points in the original, everything was still concise and understandable, even if the pacing was off sometimes and the acting can be hammy (especially Kanryu).

The characters were almost spot-on, notably Kenshin and Jin-e. I was hoping Saito could be leaner and thinner but he pulled it off well enough. A gripe would be Megumi who, I felt, didn't manage to be as sultry and seductive as her anime counterpart, both in personality and in physical appearance. I agree with Shirokun in how other characters didn't seem as fleshed out as Kenshin given the length of the movie but I really wasn't bothered about it, probably because the things that were lacking were filled in by my knowledge of them in the anime.

The action scenes were superb and you can definitely feel the delineation between Kenshin and Battousai when he shifts between the two modes. I especially liked the fight between Jin- and Kenshin and the moment he pulled off a Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu move, I squealed. Seriously.

And if you're a fan of the OVA (and of a certain woman in particular), you'll be glad to know that there's a tip of the hat for you here.

All in all, I'd give it a 7/10, if only because the editing and the flow of the story can be improved, and because they took out one of my most favorite characters. If you're an RK fan, don't pass this up.

I can imagine who it would be ....
It is Seijūrō, right ?

I agree with everything said. The fights scenes are great but some of the acting are just terrible. Everyone in the theater laughed at Kaoru's speech as it was very long. The casting of Megumi fails miserably as she didn't appear as seductive and hardened as she was to be expected.

I watched this about 3 weeks ago and I thought it turned out rather well. The stuff I had been reading about how they crammed too much into it really tempered my expectations, but in the end they managed to blend elements from different arcs into a coherent story.

Some things I found were oddly paced, especially the flashback that showed
how Kenshin gets his first scar
. It seemed completely random and I thought they probably should have saved that until the live action movies actually deal with his history in greater detail.

The acting was dull sometimes. The one I didn't like most was Yahiko and I don't even know why he's in the movie at this stage, but overall you get used to these live action portrayals. It was sorta like they thought they might as well throw in as many characters as they could in case the movie bombed and they didn't get an opportunity to make more.

If we're giving out scores, I'll give it 8/10. I thoroughly enjoyed it despite its faults. This is one of the few manga/anime things that I still have a huge interest in other than Evangelion and after that stupid Shin-Kyoto Hen OVA, this was something that I found immensely satisfying.

I look forward to giving it a second viewing when I comes out on Blu-ray at the end of this month and I hope they are working on sequels like they planned.
