Logitech Cordless Action Controller

This was one of my Christmas gifts. Best PS2 pad to date. I will use this with my PS3 if it supports it. Anyone else have it? If not, and you are a PS2 gamer, consider buying it. It's well worth $40.

The batteries last FOREVER, I've played over 60 hours of DQ8, and the thing is just as responsive and accurate as it was the day I bought it, put the batteries in, and started using it. I leave vibration off.

It's amazing how far away you can be from the PS2, and it still works. Excellent range. I don't think I want to go back to cord controllers again. Those are definitely a thing of the past.

i've been thinking about getting one since i've heard nothing but good things. How is the accuracy on games that require fast reflexes though? Does it make a difference or is it pretty much like using a DualShock2?

No difference

Absolutely no difference whatsoever. It's amazing how responsive and accurate it is. While I'm no master of these games, and therefore my fingers don't work as fast while playing, Tekken Tag Tournament and Fifa Soccer -- fast-paced games -- are exactly the same.

It's nice though. I went from having the traditional DS2 (worn out, kinda small too), to a Nyko Airflo (nice design, good grip, crappy controls... left d-pad would always crap out randomly). This was well worth the money though.

Uh... that's it? Surely there have to be more games that have problems with it.
btw, what are these problems exactly? Timing or something?

Got me one of these from Lik-Sang

Superb controller, loving the cordless action! I think it may be even better than the X360 cordless controller.

Most of the time it works perfect, but I have had some timing issues with faster sports games such as Pro Evolution Soccer / Winning Eleven.

Whoa, I didn't know they sold it in silver (or is it customized)
Although I still might be happier with black.

At least the black matches my PS2. I'll double recommend it as it feels ultra-comfortable in my hand, the batteries last heaps of hours without needing a recharge, the design's great, the wireless bit has all the great things about wireless, and the D-PAD! The 8-way d-pad is pretty awesome too. It's got some really good weight too, but I guess you can't have everything :)

I've used the wireless XBOX Logitech pad, and they really are nice. I'd like to get some for my PSTwo, but the receiver won't sit flush with the console in a horizontal position. Eh, maybe next gen...

Also available in white, lik-sang and play-asia
the problem is shipping cost + import taxes... (at least to belgium here)
Wich stinks... Ill take black anyway.

P.S. since we're talking wireless controller anyway:

Didn't know it was also available @ platinum!

Awesome controller. Only problem it's got is a less precise pressure detection (it makes playing MGS2 and 3 a tad bit "harder").

I recently purchased this pad - Its great - it's so good that it has made me start playing some of my old PS2 games. I have hot shots golf 3 and I have noticed no problems.

This Logitech controller is the best PS2 controller out there... I liked it so much I replaced both my wired controllers with two of these puppies....

It's an excellent controller...

but...

it's on the heavy side, but its relatively comfortable weight.

The battery pack kinda comes out a bit, at first it was uncomfortable getting used to it because of the extrusion (my middle fingers rest there normally).

The dpad is good looking, but perhaps not quite as good (responsiveness) as a proper cross shaped D-pad.

The face buttons are also quite hard... and you'll find yourself been troubled by games that need you to tap the button fast (Resident Evil 4).

Otherwise though, it's excellent.

i finally bought one (due to gaf hype threads like these :p) and its OK, not great.

it works well enough, but none of the buttons or sticks feel as good as the original dual shock controlls. all of the controlls feel slightly cheaper to me.

if you need to go wireless, its a decent alternative. but ill stick with the standard DS2 (or arcade stick) for most games.

Caveat Emptor.

The X button and rumble died on me after six months of Vice City and San Andreas, and the analog was a bit loose. Not a good show

If you want white, EA has an exclusive version as well.

The one I have is a silver EA branded one. After I bought a wavebird, I realized how much I hate cords.

This is by far the best PS2 wireless controller, and it's on par with the wavebird IMO.

This has nothing to do with the controller, but more with the way YOU handle it :)
How the heck did you smash 'em anyway?

I need to pick up a new PS2 controller...this is really very tempting, as I've actually never owned a wireless controller before, and the PS2 controller cords aren't quite as long as I wish they were.

So... this is the way to go, other wireless controllers are quite sh$tty, really...

After getting this controller months ago, I could never go back to the old Dual Shock 2. This thing is perfect.

I don't think it's possible for a Dual Shock derivative to be better than the X360 controller.

Anyone know where I can pick one of these up in Canada? No guesses please.

If you're looking for the white or silver ones: none except lik-sang or play-asia
pretty painful eh :( I know...

no way. the DS2 is a better controller. im sure the DS3 will be an improvement.

dont get sucked in by the hype. if you really want or need wireless, this is the only way to go. but it is not better than the standard DS2.

The logitech cordless action controller works great but it lacks in durability. I've had mine for probably about a year and a half and while it still works well, there are some issues I have. For starters, the idea of an on/off switch may turn some people off, but it is needed in this controller. My controller likes to stay on even when it hasn't been touched for some time. I put new batteries in the thing once and two days later it was dead. Only then did I realize that for one reason or another, my controller was on since my last play session two days ago. 50 hours of sitting there while the batteries drained. My fix is that I just pop the batteries out when I'm not playing but this is still quite inconvenient, especially compared to the Wavebird's simple on/off switch. Other issues I have are the analog face buttons. Crouching/ducking in Socom II and III are nearly impossible with this controller despite being done with ease on the original DS2 pad. Overall, I'd still recommend it over buying extension cords or a different wireless pad, but it has room from improvement.

EDIT: Oh and if you're looking for a white pad, Best Buy has them around me. Only problem is that there is an ugly ass EA logo on the center of the pad. Apparently EA and Logitech teamed up on it or something.

This is definitely a problem, it should have some kind of off switch. I've had problems as well where it seems to drain batteries fast because it stays on or turns on at the slightest bump. Overall though I think it's worth the money.

Couldn't agree more.

After spending some time with it, I reverted back to the good old DS2. Realisticallty, this Logitech for all it's quality, has nothing going on for it over DS2 other than being wireless. Main things being that it's heavier and less ergonomic due to batteries compartments protruding down, just like on Xbox 360 wireless pad.

- To add another flaw, the pressure sensitivity on face buttons on this pad doesn't quite work as it should, making MGS3 for example, pretty much unplayable.

I never had this problem. It always goes off after some time of not being used. Maybe yours was faulty somehow, but I see no need for on/off switch.

As much as I love that controller I still like the feel of the DS2 over it. I really hope Sony doesn't mess up with thier PS3 controller.

Strange I never had any issues with mine while playing MGS3... if I have any beef it's like other folks have said... an on off switch would be a nice addition... but I use rechargable batteries in mine and always have an extra charge pair laying around just because we have so many battery powered devices in our home... our daughter really has too many electronic toys dammit...

Well maybe mine is borked too then, but I've heard this complaint from a few more people. Try pulling gun out in MGS3 in first person view, then holstering it (by slowly releasing square button), without it getting fired. I found that next to impossible to do, which is a big game breaker to me.

For some reason I think this action worked better in the demo, but didn't in final game, when using this controller. Or was it the other way around.

Shit, for some reason I thought it was the game. When I get Subsistence I'm going to make sure to play it with a DS2. No wonder MGS3's controls took so long to come to grips with :/

I'll have to try MGS3 and let you know if I have the same problem...
I respectfully disagree with all of the negative things said about it, though.
It seems just as responsive as the DS2 (and for a good reason, Sony put the PlayStation name on it), it's a lot more comfortable than the DS2, and I've noticed no problems whatsoever with the button sensitivity, but like I said, I'll try MGS3.

My Nyko Airflo is a crappy controller and I regret buying it, and I know it has to be less precise than the Logitech, but I was still able to complete MGS3 with it... so if the Airflo is sufficent, the Logitech definitely is.

edit: Hell, I'm gonna try MGS3 right now.

Let us know what your experience is Diablos I'm looking to buy one of these babies too :)

[off-topic]and why can't I post new topics anyway?[/bleh]

I have the same MGS complaint as the others. The lack of complete analog sensitivity on the buttons makes those games considerably harder.

...but that's the ONLY THING wrong with this controller. After that, it's amazing.

I absolutely love the Logitech cordless action. Easily the best PS2 wireless you'll find.

It's all I use on the PS now. The only negative I could give is that the d-pad on my unit is loose and thus it doesn't feel as precise as it should. Otherwise it's nearly flawless.

No, I think all the d-pads for our controller are like that. The more you use it, the tighter it feels though.

I just tried MGS3 - they're right. Weapons like the Scorpion are a lot more difficult to control. It's really hard to keep the button pressed in such a way that keeps the gun aimed, but not firing. Once you fire, it's really hard to get it back to where it was, which is already difficult to begin with. I tried both the Cordless Action Controller and the DS2... the DS2 has the appropriate amount of sensitivity to the buttons in order to play (and my DS2 is WORN OUT; 5 years old); the Cordless Action Controller is a little lacking there.

Also, the d-pad is a bit less responsive when I go into the in-game weapons or items menu and try to tap the d-pad fast. It stalls every few presses, but not by much. Ditto for load/save menus and the pause menu. Which is really weird -- in games like DQ8, which is menu intensive, the Cordless Action Controller is extremely responsive and just like the DS2.

I put in new batteries just to see if the ones it came with were going dead, but it didn't make a difference.

But it's true, not that many games rely on it, it definitely should not hold you back from buying one unless all you play is MGS or something.

As far as the analog control comparison goes... it doesn't make a difference to me. The Logitech feels a bit more firm and not as smooth as the DS2, but it's still closer to authentic Sony than it would be third party garbage. It is also just as precise (even in menus and stuff).

Bottom line: Cordless Action Controller is inferior in d-pad control and button sensitivity. Other than that, it is an excellent controller.

I really like these things, especially the weight when you're holding them. However, I have had problems with signal drop-offs and stuck signals. For example, when the wife and I were playing Champions 2 we kept getting killed because we'd be holding up (or whatever direction) and when we let go of the stick the character would just keep going and be killed by whatever it ran into. alternatively, we'd be trying to run away from something that was trying to kill us and the controller wouldn't respond at all and we'd just stand there and be bludgeoned to death.

Oddly, that's the only game we've really had a problem with this happening so maybe this is just one of the plethora of bugs in the game.

Wow so any difficulties I had in MGS3 I can blame on the wireless... thanks for the detective work Diablos... I had NO idea that this was an issue..

No prob. I still am satisfied with mine, and issues with just a few games should not prevent you from buying one.

What is confusing though, is that I can tap the d-pad extremely fast in all directions in games like DQ8 or FFX when I am in a menu. It's just like the DS2, but in MGS3, it stalls. Why that occurs I don't understand. The controller uses the same amount of power for every game, so... it doesn't make any sense. Maybe it has to do with how often the game checks the status of the controller ports or something (aka polling).
