Naturally someone probably posts a thread like this once a week, but I personally haven't seen one for a while, so what the hell...
These are games/series I would love to see make a come-back next gen, even though most are unlikely:
LOADED- PS1, Saturn
One of my favorite games from PS1's early line-up. It was just bloody madness- and it had Pop Will Eat Itself on the soundtrack!
Interplay made a sequel, Re-LOADED, but due to some significant fuck-ups on my PS1 at the time, never made it beyond the first level. I loved the twisted character designs and the balls-to-the-walls action. A pretty damn violent game for it's time- I'd love to see an updated LOADED game on X360 or PS3.
Jumping Flash (1, 2)- PS1
Another set of games early in PS1's existence. I remember the effects in this game blowing me away- especially that first time you get a big boosted jump and you can see the whole level below you. Difficulty was never too hard, the game was very colorful (albeit very Japanesey
), and I remember it having pretty catchy music. I was disappointed not to see a Jumping Flash on PS2, but I later found out that the development team had been spread to the wind.
Mutant League Football- SEGA Genesis
This was one of the most fun football games I ever played. It was basically Madden, but with monsters, killing, traps on the field, and overall madness. I loved scrambling for a fumble and watching my opponent fall into a fire pit on the field... not to mention destroying one of the refs as my player hot-dogged into the end-zone. EA also made a Mutant League Hockey, which was fun, but not quite as fun as football.
I'd love to see EA take the current Madden engine and do the same thing. A nice twist on the genre, especially if you like ghouls and monsters.
Parasite Eve- PS1
A very promising franchise for Square, I thought. The first game was fantastic and although many didn't like it as much, I loved the second game as well. Great production values, beautiful music, gameplay hybrid of action RPG and survival horror, and an instant classic character with Aya Brea. I remember hints of a Parasite Eve 3 for PS2, but it never came to be. It would kick ass if Square-Enix brought Aya back for a PS3 sequel.
Actraiser- SNES
I'd just love, at the very least, a remake of this classic. Amazing graphics for an early SNES title (not to mention Actraiser 2 looking even better), gorgeous music by Yuzo Koshiro, and very involving gameplay mix of 'god' sim and straight action. I was very disappointed by the sim-less sequel (the game was also retardedly difficult), but there was still a great foundation for more games. Damn near 15 years later, I still find myself humming some of the tracks from this game.
I have many, many more, but I'll keep this introduction short to give some of you guys a chance to chime in here.
