My brother is taking up golf and I want to by him a good set of clubs and lessons. What should I got with for someone who has never played golf before.

Something that is forgiving to the newbie but, still shows the clod has some class.

[Im taking it you are buying adult clubs]

In my experience, if you are new, what brand of clubs you have makes absolutely zero difference to your game, so my only advice is dont go wasting money on really expensive clubs. Having said that, dont go bargin basement because the grips on really cheap clubs can seriously cut up your hands when mishandled (as you would as a new golfer).

Basically any big brand name clubs you can find pretty cheap will be fine

[if you are buying junior clubs]

it really doesnt matter, he will grow out of them way before they start to hold back his game.

[if you really really must have someone pick out a set of clubs for you]

Titleist Forged Stainless 804.OS

I've played before. My brother hasn't and he is part of "corporate" America where all business deals and promotions are done over 9 holes. I'm going to buy him clubs and lessons for his birthday coming up soon. So I want to get some clubs that have some name recognition. It's all for status.

Looking for some clubs for someone who has big meaty hands and are forgiving.

Well I haven't gotten a new set of sticks in a while but there are a lot of things to look at. If he's a brand new golfer like you said, get him something oversized. My current set are Top-Flite Tour Titanium Oversized, I've had them for like 6 years, and I love them. The oversized heads are great. Do NOT buy anything forged or blades, as those are for experienced golfers only.

You will probably find that Titleist has some of the best clubs available, but they might be for the better player. I'd say go with something like Cobras, I know they have oversized versions, Taylor Made makes good stuff, and so does Callaway (but pretty expensive). Those three are all good if you are looking for brand recognition. Taylor Made RAC versions are great clubs, Cobra 3100 I/H are great, anything new that is Callaway or Ping will essentially be the top of the line things you can buy, but are good for beginners and novices.

Go to Golf Digest.com and look at the club reviews and figure out what the best ones are, that's about the best you can do.

See if you can find anyone who makes knock offs... seriously. You can get a good price on them and they're as good as the real thing. Besides that, could you give us a price range?

I want the real deal becasue he is going to be golfing with his bosses they guy all pull in 7 figures. As far as a price range goes 1550 or less. With that I want a full set with a putter and the bag to go with it.

I'm also getting him golf lessons as well. I want him to look and play like he knows what he is doing.
