A look at the output of Sony Interactive Entertainment for 2025

That can’t be all surely?
I'm still waiting for someone to explain what's so bad with it, but as I've already said, 2024 had games like Astro Bot that were released within the same year of announcement, so it could easily be the case here.
No more big budget games tho, that's obviously just DS2 and Yotei.

Right. That was my point to the post I was responding to. That post said that Fairgame$ has to be released at some point. And I don't think that's true given all the live service trash that has bombed in 2023/2024.

In my opinion, if Sony were smart, they would (a) shit can it and all their live service games or (b) focus all their efforts on making one exceptional live service game instead of multiple half assed ones or ones that have gotten overwhelming negative feedback, such as Fairgame$.

For the love of God, yes. I've been saying this for years. This woman is the most overrated, snake oil salesman in the industry. Here's the Jade Raymond cycle:

(1) Start a new company.
(2) Make lofty promises about some new tech or game.
(3) Get lots of investors on board because she worked on Assassin's Creed 1.
(4) Leave the company before the hot new game or tech gets released.
(5) New game or tech either never releases or bombs.
(6) Company closes down.
(7) Repeat.
People bring her up mostly because she is hot, not because she is super talented.

If we were to factor in a few of the heavily rumored projects like the God of War: Greek Saga, Days Gone and Gravity Rush 2 remasters, it's not terrible. I imagine there will be a couple of third-party deals in place too ala Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Add the multiplats like Kingdom Come II, new Mafia, Yakuza, DOOM, Monster Hunter Wilds, GTA6 and Metal Gear Solid Delta and it's a solid year (if you disagree you should seriously considering just leaving the hobby at this point).

Lost Soul Aside is looking very weak though, easily the worst of the Asian hero games being pushed. Stellar Blade and Black Myth turned out to be shockingly pretty amazing and Phantom Blade Zero looks promising too, but LSA looks like Daiso store DMC trying too hard to have the emotion of Nier.

Lost Soul Aside, Where Winds Meet, The First Berserker, Phantom Blade Zero, etc

Why can't anyone make a good old action game like Bayonetta, DMC, Dante's Inferno, Enslaved, Darksiders?
Lost Soul Aside is much more akin to DMC than souls games.
What do those other games have to do with SIE first-party?

Microsoft has a stacked lineup too imo. I have all of them on wishlist except for southern midnight. But switch 2 and Metroid prime 4 is pretty fucking big.

And 3rd parties, insane upcoming year from them.
Metroid prime 4 and apparently Mario kart 9 is all I could wish for tbh.

So no Marathon in 2025? When did they announce this game?

I'm interested in everything on this list, except for The Show. I dunno, something about baseball games, I'm just trash at them. Can't hit for shit, can't catch for shit. When did these games become so complicated?

Sorry not really for me. I'll probably give DS2 a try but apart from that I'm not interested in just about everything from everybody right now lol. Funnily enough most of my life I'd been super into gaming and not into films, but this past year plus a few months I've gotten so much and have a bunch of preorders for the coming year. Oh and manga too. Its crazy, in a time when most gaming companies are super cheap and don't give a manual much less in color I can get tons of pack-ins with posters, cards, prints, booklets and tons of other collectables. Granted this is all subjective, just as I loathe CGI in film and shakey-cam in modern TV & Movies, there is so much I detest in modern gaming as well besides the usual shite.

I have a huge backlog and thankfully a few upcoming releases I'm looking forward to but not from any first party publisher.

Nothing for me. I still haven't gotten around to playing GoT, and I'm not a fan of Kojima. I'll be looking to third-party - and, oddly, to MS ports.

And i agree with him. It should be an actual action game, with fetch quests in between.

Not a fetch game with occasional (and bad) action in between.
ME too. I would have enjoyed the Kojima weirdness if it wasn't wrapped in such a bad game. A sequel could be something where he listens to the feedback and changes things.

Literally only First Berserker from that list is close to a souls like.

LSA and Phantom Blade are both character action games like what you mentioned.

Where Winds Meet is more like Genshin Impact with Wukong artstyle. But you would be forgiven for thinking it's a souls like, I thought it was a Chinese developed version of NiOh at first glance. But it's not, it's an online game.

Happy new year, guys!
It will great to update the OP throughout the year, I wonder how the initial takes will age by the end of 2025? 🤔
There are 6 games currently in the OP, 3 of which are multiplayer games. 2 of which are new IPs from some Chinese devs no one has heard of. Updating the OP throughout the year does not change the current outlook. You can’t expect people to be excited about that list then look for bad takes if Sony announce more games and you update the OP. The current list is still weak.

Eh, did not really have that intent and was more about how they themselves would feel about the games that are *already* there.
Not that I care that much, but I actually was pretty weirded at how much hate it got, especially since people settled for far less in the past.

Could be also said for every other PlayStation.

It's always been Amazing exclusives + all the third party games that have sold Playstation consoles.

PS5 is no different, in fact the exclusives have come at a better cadence than any generation of playstation consoles.

I was very happy using PS3 for exclusives and mostly happy with PS4.

I can't say the same about PS5. Quality and quantity of them is worse (not to mention most of them will end up on pc).

PS5 exclusives are way better than PS3 exclusives. Both in quality and quantity.

I don't care that they end up on PC - you're free to go ahead and throw your PS5 away and only play on the PC you continuously shill for? Nothing stopping you. That doesn't detract from someone that only plays on Playstation enjoying the lineup they have, like most people.

Your feelings do not dictate the reality of the market. 80M of people wouldn't have bought a PS3 just to play Motorstorm.

You can clearly see that many ps fans are not very happy with Sony output. There are not many games and quality isn't there as well.

You may be happy with any shit with Sony logo on it but I'm not.

Most people buy consoles to play third party games on it (cod, fifa). But there is group of people that target exclusives (like with Nintendo consoles).

I bought PS5 with this in mind (and being happy with previous Sony consoles) but so far Sony output is weak (and it doesn't look much better in the future).

Who?

You don't sell 60M consoles without having a quality lineup, including exclusives.

What exactly is there to complain about? There's been a shitload of high quality exclusives. I don't need to turn this into a list war but it makes any other playstation generation look like a joke

Yes, that's exactly what I said.
You made a special remark for PS5 in that it wouldn't be selling well if it were for its first-party exclusives, to which I say that it applies for every other PlayStation.
In fact, IF it were for its first-party exclusives, PS5 would be selling better than every other PlayStation as Gran Turismo 3, Uncharted 2/God of War 3 and Uncharted 4/Horizon Zero Dawn/Gran Turismo Sport, simply enough, wouldn't be able to beat the Horizon Forbidden West/Gran Turismo 7/God of War Ragnarok/Spider-Man 2/Helldivers 2 combo.

"PSfans" on the internet are fickle and borderline neurotic.

They bitch and moan that Sony is doomed at the top of their voice the moment there is a lull in first party releases (despite absolute top tier AAA 3rd party exclusives) and the moment things change they quickly forget.

I just don't pay attention to the temperature of any platform fans online. What matters is the console buying masses and they are not represented at all by the folks here on NeoGaf.

It's foolish to assume they are. If you did, you'd think the masses love Xbox and were ardent Xbox fanwhores; when in reality the console sells like shit.

Who? People that like PS but are not blind faboys (I was in that group).
I would like to see list like that, PS3 with lineup from Q4 2010, PS4 with Q4 2016 and PS5 with Q4 2024.

Problem is, you will include games that are also on PS4 and remakes.

(more than) Half of those games listed on PS5 list are on PS4.

Why does that matter?

Should I also not include games on PC?

Should PC gamers not include games that can play on 10+ year old hardware or handhelds? If that were the case, PC would have no games to play

The amount of mental gymnastics you are employing to downplay PS5's lineup is incredible

Remakes can't be counted as truly new games, unless it's something like RE where they had to make entire thing from scratch (or even FFVIII Remake). The Last of Us Part 1 remake is a revision of TLOU1, not total game changer. Demon's Souls is just graphics/performance update. Horizon is a total joke...

People that still have PS4 - what is the reason for them to upgrade when half of games are were released on PS4 anyway?
