Looking for an Australian dictionary online

The word toey doesn't exist in the states so I'm looking for a dictionary that is Australian specific.

American English ≠ Brittish English ≠ Australian English. They are similar but not the same.

Australian English is very similar to British English. You'd be hard pressed to find any differences (none that I know of anyway).

toey, if im thinkin the same word, when used in slang is like nervous, as in "i was feeling a bit toey at first." it might be a different word but, i think toey is pure slang. dunno if that helps :p

i think it can mean suss aswell, as in "toey looking" i don't understand the candle bit but. theres like so many different ways u can use it :p

lol. suss = suspicious (for obvious reasons)... Never heard of the "..as a roman candle" phrase before though. Dont know why a roman candle would be more 'toey' than a non-roman candle (?) But yeah, toey = nervous, unsure , unstable.

well the Macquarie dictionary of aussie slang lists it as

toey
adjective 1. anxious; apprehensive; edgy. 2. keen, ready to go. 3. (of a horse) having an excitable temperament; fast. --phrase 4. toey as a Roman sandal, extremely anxious.

The Macquarie Dictionary

Since it was first published in 1981, the Macquarie Dictionary has become firmly established as the record of Australian English. Many smaller and specialised dictionaries, as well as thesauruses and other reference works have contributed to Macquarie's reputation as Australia's leading language reference publisher.
Australia's National Dictionary

The Macquarie has been constantly evolving over the past two decades. With the second edition, published in 1991, the Macquarie became encyclopedic, including entries on people and places of Australia and the rest of the world. The third edition, in 1997, made use of Macquarie's corpus of Australian English (Ozcorp), with thousands of illustrative sentences being included from works of Australian literature.

Could mean that too.

Let me clarify for everyone, being an Aussie myself.

The Urban Dictionary got the meaning down pat...

TOEY
1. Feeling horny. Wanting to take your partner, or a random there and then and shag them senseless.

2. Horny, turned on and in need of an immediate shag
I'm so toey....get it in me NOW!

When we say "Toey as a roman sandal” we mean horny as hell. I can honestly say I have never heard it in any other context, certainly not for trepidation. I am not saying this is not another meaning for the word, I am just saying that is not the way we use it here.

Now, I guess it does depend on the context in which it was used with you Tommie Boy. However, if I may be so bold as to hazard as guess, I imagine that with you being in Iraq and all, the meaning was intended as described in the Urban Dictionary.

You agree?

Given this forum's history... a female photo avatar with a female handle is never a good thing!

That depends if anyone was game enough to make a move seriously thinking I was a female.

So you think I'm hot honey ;)

I've always thought toey meant horny as well. Heard them make references about it on hughesy, kate and dave show.
