This same thread seems to appear every few weeks, and I'm just going to keep recommending Zelazny's Lord of Light until it starts showing up in the OP.

Off the top of my head, seeing what's already been recommended, I'd recommend Paolo Bacigalupi's 'The Windup Girl' and Scott Westerfeld's "Evolution's Darling' (if you can find it) on the Sci-fi front. I heartily endorse the recommendation of 'The Last Unicorn' that's already been made, especially.
 
On Stranger Tides
Anubis Gates
Any other Tim Powers book

They're fantasy-ish in the sense that they have magic but usually have nothing to do with the dark age setting of most high fantasy novels. On Stranger Tides is set in the 18th century and Anubis Gates features a guy from the 1980's back in the early 1800's (mostly) and briefly in the 1600's.

Really enjoyed both and were a nice change from the traditional high fantasy with guys in armor and swords fighting goblins or whatever.
