Looking for fun stuff to do in Vancouver, BC

I've noticed that a good number of you live in the Vancouver area, so I thought I'd ask. I’m going up for the day with my girlfriend to see her parents who are there for the weekend (we live in Seattle, they live in Omaha), and was wondering what you’d recommend for something fun to do that evening after we leave them. I’m up for any and all suggestions.

Stay away from Bish/Mike/Nikashi. They'll all bring you up to Nikashi's house and tie you up and make you eat Nyanko's tofu. RUUUN!

Start here.

If there are any cool shows you want to check out while you're up here, the Georgia Straight is the place to check first. If you're into just chilling at a lounge enjoying drinks, dancing, good music and conversation, I'd recommend hitting Ginger 62 on Granville St - just call ahead to make reservations so you can skip the lineup, depending on when your dinner with the family ends.

If it was an all-day thing, I'd recommend hitting the Capilano Suspension Bridge as well, but from your post it sounds like you're just going be free in the evening.

Hmmm... I'm headed to Vancouver this weekend too. Seems like every time I go I pick up the Straight and a ton of shows I want to see happen a week or two later...

Also, re: Bishop's suggestion. If you've got kids, don't forget to toss them off the bridge.

Oh yeah, I need some good record shops in Vancouver. I'm looking for a few Canada-only releases, thought I'd pick them up while I'm there.

Canada-only releases? Eh? Virgin Records @ the corner of Robson and Burrard has a great selection of imports, waaaay overpriced unfortunately, but A&B Sound and Future Shop have the cheapest CDs in North America.

I'm looking for some stuff that was only released on Mint Records and Paper Bag Recordings, they're both Canadian record labels with no American distribution.
