Looking for new TV series to watch

This is the best representation for Chuck fandom in a TV show thread so far, which is awesome but we still need more.
Watch Chuck, it is the most legitimately entertaining thing on right now by far.

The Shield
The Wire
Entourage
Battlestar Gallactica
Breaking Bad
Arrrested Development (watch it again!)

But seriously, 24. You must watch this show. Each season is completely self contained so if you get through the first and arent really feeling it you arent stopping in the middle of some plot point.

I want to watch 24 badly, but it's still going! When is this damn show going to end so I can pick up the entire series on dvd?

24 seasons 1 - 5 are must watch. Season 6 is utter crap, which doesnt give me much hope for season 7 or this recent TV movie which i havent checked out yet.

Thanks GAF,

I'm going through the replies and seeing what I would like and won't like.

I've already watched the majority of Six Feet Under, I stopped watching when
Nate married that vegan chick
. I was kind of bored around that whole area. I did love it up until there though.

Best cop show EVAR

where is Ronnie?

Some good picks in here. I will add in :
Roswell-Dawson's Creek meets X-files if you think you can dig it
Oz-prison drama, male soap opera
Veronica Mars and the first three seasons of la femme Nikita I enjoyed as well

The Wire
Rome
Dexter
24
LOST
True Blood
Battlestar Galactica
Chuck

You can't go wrong with any of these. I 100% guarantee you'll love them.

The Lost recommendations are ridiculous. I've never seen a show with so much bullshit and boring episodes to push through get so happily recommended over and over.

I watch it, but I wouldn't recommend the show to anyone.

Get off your high horse already. Every time I see your username in a thread I can always bet on the content of your post bitching, whining, or complaining about something. We get it, your taste is far superior to everyone elses.

I refuse to recommend anything because the OP said he didn't like AD that much.
He probably only watched 2-3 episodes once.
You know you have to watch an entire season in one sitting... and then rewatch it to find the hidden gems.
(Im so guilty of this).

In short, OP, you're doing it WRONG.

I made a thread exactly like this not long ago, and the result of it was me watching every season of Lost in like a month. DO IT. It's an amazing show.

Just got some discs from the first season of The Wire through Netflix, will start watching that soon.

Eh, all of my friends and I were addicted by the second episode.

You're the one who said that you have the best taste on this board.

i just went to abc.com and tried to watch some episodes of lost. but the site is region-locked, since im from germany, i get that "sorry only anmerican users can watch full episodes" label. is there a way to trick abc.com that i can watch shows there?

I haven't seen any Star Trek. Ever. I kind of want to. Would it be okay if I started on TNG instead of TOS? I want me some Patrick Stewart.
DS9's probably the best ST that's been done so far. TNG will stand up fine without watching TOS tho. (First season or two of TNG were pretty much just warmed over TOS episodes anyway.)

Supernatural

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I've been watching this show since it made it's debut and I'm still a huge fan. Especially now, it seems like the brothers are finally facing down their destiny and it feels like something big is going to happen.

I agree with Lost and Entourage... Rome and The Wire if you haven't seen them. If you can stand British TV...

Bar none the two funniest shows I've ever seen. And while both are awfully English, they're don't derive their humour from awkward moments so they're much more accessible than The Office or Extras.

Wayyy to much awesome TV right now. I'd recommend

Dead Like Me
Freaks and Geeks
Rome
Pushing Daisies
Heroes (if you pretend that Season 1 is the end of the series)
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Mad Men

I've yet to see 30 Rock, but I've heard it's really good.

JERICHO - I started watching it, thought it was alright, but it picks up. Fucking awesome show. Note: It's also free to watch now on CBS.com/Jericho.

Has there been any indication of how many more seasons of 24 there will be, and whether or not they plan on releasing the entire series on dvd?

This seems to be the best place to ask since its about tv series. Last xmas I got my mother Rome season 1 and she liked it a lot. Shes already bought Rome Season 2 so I need a new show that I can buy her. I've been leading towards Mad Men Season 1 since the Blu Ray is pretty cheap(we just got a HDTV). Does anyone have any other recommendations? My mother is a real film buff, probably rivaling neogaf's best but also a pretty big tv viewer. Her most recent favorites are Damages, Dexter, Rome, Bones, Rescue Me, Californaction, and many more that I can't remember.

Yes I'm also aware of how good the Wire is. That's also a choice.
