Looking to get married in the Caribbean

I've heard some success stories for this method. I'm not the slightest bit interested in having a big wedding at home with her HUGE family, so this would be a nice getaway. Anyone who can afford to come.. can come.

What I'm really looking for are some hot deals for resorts in the Caribbean for next winter. I have a check for $5000cdn and any help would be appreciated.

Anyone who has done this, could you please point me to some sites that offer packages for weddings. I live in Newfoundland, Canada so that might pose some travel issues relating to cost and availability. We'd like to stay at a resort for a week, maybe go on a cruise (not necessary).

Even if you've only visited one of the nice resorts in some other capicity, please give some details on why you chose it. I hate travel agents and thought turning to you guys would be a good plan since I have no clue where to start looking...

That's a great idea, that how I want to do it. Also think about getting married on a cruise ship as well they have great wedding packages and with that you don't have to worry about feeding and entertaining your guests, it's all taken care of as part of your cruise.

Puerto Rico is nice. I was just there. We stayed at the El Conquistador and it was quite nice. Maybe you should check there: http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/SJUEC/main.wnt
Thanks for the advice. I've expanded my search out a little now to include Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Dominican and pretty much all of the islands. I've found many great resorts that have all-inclusive packages and have free weddings/free upgrades for honeymooners.

It seems I underestimated my local travel agency, as their prices are much cheaper than online bookings like Travelocity.

Here are some I'm considering:

I would bang a hot farmer!
A friend of mine got married in Puerto Plata Dominican Republic (I can't remember the name of the resort) in May 2002 and a few of us went down (it cost us just over $1000 CAD each). It was pretty nice, we went down for a week (they were married mid-week) and then my friend and his wife stayed there another week after we left.
