My company recently moved from Culver City to Los Angeles. Unfortunately the new location is on Wilshire and Bundy, a few blocks away from the VA Hospital. I commute from San Gabriel, so the most direct route would be the 10 West to the 405 South. Needless to say, that route is congested.

Does anyone know of a better way to get from San Gabriel to my workplace?

How were you getting to Culver City? Seems like the route would be the same.

Your fastest road out of SG is Huntington Drive. The fastest road to get from downtown to the westside is Olympic. So your trick is going to be getting through downtown....once to you get to Olympic then you're off to the races.

Its going to suck, regardless, but there are ways.

costa mesa up in this bitch!

pff, i prefer OC.
people are nicer.
streets are safer.
traffic is less congested.
less pollution, cleaner beaches.
the only thing LA has over OC is the food.

dat great mexican food.mmmmmm
yah I live in Costa Mesa... it sucks lol.

I was in Garden Grove before that, great mexican food and excellent vietnamese food everywhere all for great prices!!

now I dont have that anymore... I have ramen instead... which is expensive.

I have no problems driving a little distance for ramen, but it sucks that I needa drive to Santa Ana if I want a decent breakfast burrito

which I eat as sustenance to go break dance in LA coz their bboy scene is way better than OC

Question for active drivers, how much of a pain in the ass would it be to commute from Burbank to Santa Monica every day (driving)?

Definitely a pain in the ass, but doable.

First go to Google Maps and type in Burbank to Santa Monica. Second, completely disregard that bullshit route they give you. Only someone that really hated you would say to take the 5 to the 10 fwy in the morning.

I'd probably take the 5 down to Silverlake, then from there weave my way down to Olympic, turn right and keep going til I saw the ocean.

Really theres lots of ways to do it. Its just a little counter intuitive because the most "direct" routes are generally the worst to take lol. I mean, alternately you could take the 101 to the 405 south. Wouldn't suggest it, though. :)

Would taking Atlantic Blvd to the 105 an easy alternative?

Good luck with the commute though, it's quite a bitch. What time do you need to be there?

Thanks. 9 AM. I already hate the commute lol.

I took the 10 West to the 110 North and exit off of Martin Luther King St. Then drove on the local streets (Crenshaw, Stocker, Slauson)from there. That way I avoided all the heavy traffic on the 10 and 405 on the west side. That route doesn't quite work because Culver City is south of where I work now. I'm trying to find some surface streets to get to Wilshire that aren't too congested.

I basically have a similar commute every morning: Monterey Park to Marina Del Rey. I get around it by waking up early and leaving the house at 6 in the morning. Even then, there are areas of slow down and congestion on the 10.

Temple City to Santa Monica. I feel you

You can stay on the 10, exit Crenshaw, go up to Olympic and go west from there. Olympic is easily the fastest street going east to west across the city.

But you have seasons. One day it is high 70's here the next day it is low 40 with nights reaching low 30's.

Damn. I think that kind of craziness has been happening everywhere in the US the last few years or so. A few weeks ago we had a 65-70 degree day in Chicago. Literally two days later it was <10 degrees (<0 with wind chill) and it snowed/sleeted/rained all in the same day. 40 degrees at 10AM, 10 by 3:30.

Dat climate change.

Im in la about to watch bal luhrmans(i dont know the name by heart) Romeo and juliet with 2 thousand other people! At the los angeles theater

I had people cancel on me tonight because they're on a juice cleanse and can't drink. My boss's assistant decides to spend most of the day on gchat yapping about a New World Order and sheeple and vaccinations leading to autism. And my other coworker does tarot card readings and has energy crystals around her desk.

Is psuedoscience as prevalent as I think in Los Angeles, or is this just because I work in entertainment?

man, ep assistant's are either shit or stellar. let me guess, kurt's? usually creative ep assistants are the shitbags

I ate at Susan Feniger's Street today!

overall, food is alright, real expensive and nothing mind blowing,

but the Kaya Toast is bomb diggy!!!! I would go back jus for that!!

Susan herself mysteriously appeared out of her cave to greet a couple that were dining there,

then on her way back to seclusion she was like "hey! how u guys doing!!!"

and we were like "good!" so it was cool.

You've convinced me it's time to switched my avatar away from my face.

I just can't this shit. I had to help my friend's mom move her energy crystals around her house while she hired a fucking specialist to tell her where to position them. And she's a manager! A really, really talented music manager.

sorry, I just know the type. my girlfriend was assistant to the business side ep on a production and the difference was unbelievable. and yeah, it's amazing what extra money and free time results in. people gotta believe in something sometime.

Product of the age. People just don't research past what they want to think.

I was adding a bunch of PC parts into my Amazon cart and then I realized....

California gets taxed with Amazon orders.

NOOOOOO. Worst state ever :(

Any of you guys ever been to Galleria market in Koreatown on Olympic and Western? I went yesterday and stocked up on a bunch of great stuff. The place was incredibly packed.

I need to switch banks when I move.

Chase VS Bank Of America Vs whatever else for LA? Being useful in other states woukd be good too.

I need: Online banking, a Visa Debit, locations to wirhdraw cash without a fee.

A good intterest rate, probably under 25k, and no annual fee would be goood too.

Accountant here

I prefer Chase. BofA, Wells Fargo, and Citibank are the other big banks in LA. Most of these banks have plans in which if you are eligible you won't have to pay a dime for annual fees and withdrawals.

I'm driving out from Santa Monica tomorrow night to San Francisco.

How fucked am I if I leave around 6?

Leave around 8 or 9. I've been stuck on the i5 for a few hours trying to leave around 6. It's horrible and a waste of time. Should try and leave around 3:30-4:30. Traffic going up and out is far less congested.

On the 5? Fucked. PCH? Also fucked, but at least you'll have a view.

That drive is horrendous. I've done it four times -- awful.

Yeah just leave later.

The way I see it if you leave at 6PM you will be stuck in traffic for 90 mins to 2 hours before you really get "out" of the city. Whereas if you leave at 8PM you'll probably only be 30 minutes behind to where you would have been if you left earlier.

Thanks for the tips... I'm trying to leave my internship early...but I also have a PC case that needs to get picked up in Industry -_____-
