I'm thinking that timeline is done, though. Why else would they have the timeline X people keep flashing? They're living happy lives over there and they've also rediscovered their island selves. That's the "correct" timeline. Jack, Sawyer, Kate and company on the island just have to find a way to get over there.

Maybe the island sinking is a "loophole" of sorts to merge the timelines, since the island is sunk in timeline X.
