What are the theories on what would've happened if jack hadn't re-corked the island?

The whole universe would've gone kablooey.

Maybe.

Who knows? Either you believe Jacob or you believe MIB. Up to you, really.

The whole universe would've gone kablooey.

Or, simply cease to exist, with the absence of The Light and all.

FUCUUUUUUUUUUCCKCKSHIT

I watch Lost on there all the friggin time, what a big hot pot of shit soup.

I guess I will definitely be day on on the box set.

the wife and i just watched seasons 1-6 over the past couple months and rather enjoyed it. i'd like to offer my theory as to the ending fresh without reading any others first, or this thread. apologies if this isnt new, or if its incredibly stupid! :lol

the assumption i'm taking with my theory on lost is based on the idea that the island was a sort of limbo for the passengers of 815 that did die, and they had to pass through limbo before going onto the afterlife.

i'm going to refer to season 6 as two realities. the first reality is the island (limbo?) and the second is the afterlife (heaven?). the island, which, as stated is the events of season 6 that occurred on the island. the afterlife being the alternate reality where the plane never crashed and their lives were noticeably different then even before the flight (ex. jack previously married to juliet and with a kid).

first, on the island, jack took over jacob's role in protecting the light. after desmond extinguished the light, both the black smoke ("locke") and jack were mortal, and jack killed locke. when jack returned to the light (heart of the island) he put hurley in charge of protecting the island and went back inside to replace the stone and get the light going again. once the light returned, we see jack laying in the pool of collecting water, then later waking up outside the cave with *some* time passing. its my theory that jack became the new black smoke with hurley being the new protector.

the other part of my theory is that even though the end events of season 6 of lost and the island end there, there is much more to the story. i base this idea on the fact that, firstly, i cant fathom how all island inhabitants suddenly went to the afterlife. obviously jin and sun, among others were dead on the island, and even jack was hinted as dying in the final island scene, but how would people like hurley and ben move onto the afterlife?

secondly, in the afterlife, hurley comments that ben was a great #2 and ben responds that hurley was a great #1. this insinuates that they had a lengthy relationship on the island after jack gave hurley the title of protector and hurley took ben on as an assistant. certainly a lengthy amount of time had passed with other events occurring that allowed all the original oceanic 815 flight to move onto the afterlife.

thoughts? critiques? other things i left out or failed to take into consideration?

I'll forgive you because it's fresh for you, but THE ISLAND WAS REAL. It wasn't limbo, it was a real place. The X timeline in S6 was purgatory.

Edit: Rewatch that final Christian/Jack scene, he literally lays out everything you have a question about.

whats the x timeline?

and i dont think the island being limbo or real matters much for the heart of my theory anyways. what about the rest of it?

They didn't all suddenly go to the afterlife. "There is no now, here". Some died long after Jack.

The X timeline is just a reality they made for themselves so they could meet before moving on to whatever comes after death.

ok, so that bit i can scratch out, it was really just supporting evidence to my theory anyways and now it PROVES my point that time has passed :lol

i was really looking for people to shoot down the jack = black smoke bit, but maybe thats what most got from the final ep.?

It's certainly left upto the viewer (Jack is laid out in the same way MIB's original body was). But he did die on the jungle floor. No doubt about that.

He could have gained Smokey powers, but he was already so fucked up that he just died anyway.

It doesn't really matter though.

i'm not so sure he did die, but yeah, whatever. just finished up the series and had to put my thoughts to words and bounce them off of others.

Nah, there's no reason to think he didn't die there.

A) He was fucked up.

B) Kate's "I missed you so much" implying she hasn't seen him in a very long time. If he lived on the Island, there's no doubt she'd visit him (if he was the new smoke monster) or he'd visit her.

C) It make perfect thematic and dramatic sense for the show to close on Jack's death/eye. If Jack doesn't die at the end, it literally drains the scene, both sides of it, of all it's emotion.

D) It was confirmed pretty tightly in the final Jack/Christian scene.

Certain things about the finale are meant to be upto the viewer, but whether Jack died or not is not one of those things.

I watched almost every episode in 1.5x-2x the speed using VLC. I didn't want to waste any more time than I needed. Although I was rushing through, the plot was cohesive; however, the show failed to measure up to the hype. It was meandering and paddling nowhere.
The fourth and fifth seasons were completely unnecessary and the end could have been summed up in one or two episodes.
I don't care if a person dislikes LOST, stopped watching LOST, or gave the final season a chance since they made it that far and hated it, thinks it didn't meet the hype, etc. It's been over for weeks and I'm done debating. I'm only going to recommend it to people who haven't watched it. If they like it, awesome, if not, oh well.

But watching 80+ hours at 1.5x-2x the speed of something you don't particularly like is on of the top stupidest things I ever heard a person on NEOGAF say they did.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to ignore you. I don't want to debate something non lost related with someone this stupid in the future.

Re: why MIB turned into Smokey and Jack didn't

I've thought that the reason MIB became the smoke monster was because of his inability to let go. He wanted to get off the island and live a life somewhere else, across the sea, and refused to give that up. That inability to let go and allow his soul to move on resulted in his transformation into Smokey: a physical purgatory unto itself.

Whereas Jack, on the other hand, was ready to let go. He had achieved his purpose on the island and fulfilled his destiny; he was ready to die and move on. Because of that, he was able to avoid becoming a monster, and just simply died.

Why didn't you just read episode summaries?

"Adding comments has been disabled for this video."
Not surprising. :lol

Also heavily aping Resident Evil 1, in more ways than one.

island = the mansion/lab
missing recon team = missing bravo team
Altracorp = Umbrella
and oh yeah the zombie thing

Ok, I bought the Lost Season 1 soundtrack some time back, and just recently got the Season 4. Borders has a 40% coupon which would make any of the soundtracks just slightly cheaper than Amazon, so which out of 2, 3 and 5 should I get? (I think There's No Place Like Home is probably my favorite track of all Lost.)

Aw man, I'm starting to 'let go' and I don't like it. Just saw the Josh Holloway Davadoff ad and thought "Hey look, it's Sawyer from Lost. That show was awesome". I don't like thinking about it in the past tense. I'm feeling a disconnect. I'm not ready... :( I still want to come here and discuss shit, but everything has been discussed. I still visit DarkUFO hoping to see some new news. There is nothing :( Once the Blu-Ray is release, that really is it.
