The same thing happened with my dad with 24.
He sent my mom to NY on her birthday with her sister, and while she was gone, I told him to watch 24. He reluctantly agreed, and he watched it in less than a week. He'd stay up until 3ish watching every night. It's hilarious, as he had been going to bed at 10 waking up at 6 since I can remember.
I got my brother hooked to LOST, and he went through all 6 in a bout a month and a half.

lol that's true. Well, I usually try to shy away from watching things with my dad cause it'll just turn into some sort of lecture about how I should be learning a life lesson or something. So I approached my dad about Lost by saying that there's a lot you can take away from the show if you analyze it and it's not just mindless entertainment, so maybe that's what got him interested. I'm definitely going to try to refrain from causing any arguments or anything though, cause I want to enjoy this rare moment of watching TV with my dad in peace.gdt5016 said:

Awesome story DarkWish, and also very familiar. Your dad sounds a lot like mine, and I had a similar situation when I tried to get him into LOST. I could tell he tried to play it cool at first, but a few episodes in, he was having rather impressive mini-marathons. He's never done that with any show before. I guess it just has that amazingly accessible universal appeal (S1 at least, lol). In his case, I could tell he latched onto the Locke character and some of the show's overall redemptive themes.
It was so bizarre having casual conversations about Hurley, Sawyer or the goddam Smoke Monster with this stoic, conservative man that I thought I knew. :lol It led to some interesting dialogue between us. Worlds collided like crazy for those few weeks. Definitely a time I'll cherish

If he keeps going and doesn't quit, then I'll try and get my mom back into the show once we get near the end of season 2 where she left off. The only thing I'm unsure of is that my dad likes more reality-based things, not supernatural stuff. We watched the first Pirates of the Caribbean and he was loving it up until the whole curse thing was introduced. So I can see why he is interested in season 1 of Lost, but I have a feeling it won't last knowing his taste in TV/movies. But hey, he surprised me so far, so who knows.

I got my dad to watch the 1st season on DVD too, but he stopped watching because he didnt want to watch on TV.

the identity of Hurley's interlocutor. Just because they talk about Locke, that doesn't mean Locke is the one. Based on that "maybe it's the island that's stuck with me" line (and what an original line that is! 'never heard that one before!), I wouldn't be surprised if that were the Man in Black (played by Titus Welliver?)...

I'm saying that this article and the several like it and the situations surrounding them have been discussed to death. Discussion now mostly pertains to the DVDs and remaining interviews and previews and looking back on the series. If I wanted to have the same discussion for the nth time, I'd just go read old posts.Erigu said:

And it continues... I was getting my wallet and keys and stuff from my room and heading downstairs to eat breakfast and I hear Lost on the TV downstairs. Looks like my dad decided to watch the season 1 finale right in the morning. I brought season 2 downstairs for him and headed off to work. I come back and he's finishing up the second episode of season 2. I watched episode 3 "Orientation" with him, and now he's watching episode 4. I tried to ask him his predictions and stuff, but he barely tells me anything. He reluctantly told me that he believes Jack, and he when I asked him about the numbers and Hurley he said "sometimes people will believe what they want to think" so he thinks Hurley is just making it all up. I pretty much expected a response like that from him. But yea, he's still speeding through.

He's already freaking out at how many episodes there are. I told him later seasons have like 16 episodes and he said that's still a lot. Oh well, I only expected to watch the pilot with him, but now he's on season 2, watching 8 episodes a day, and watching without me too... so it far exceeded what I thought. That Adam Quigley article literally made me unsubscribe from /filmcast a couple of months back. My interest in the podcast was already dwindling, but being completely unable to take one of the hosts(and biggest motor mouth of the crew) seriously sealed it. Poorly written, horribly thought out and straight up wrong in several areas--dude should have been ashamed of himself for publishing it. Hell, anyone who cites that as credible should feel just as bad about themselves if not worse.

That's funny, because I remember many die-hard fans saying it was too early to discuss the quality of the writing when the show wasn't over yet, and now that's it's over (two months! that's, like, four eternities and a half!), it's too late. Who knew the window would be so narrow?thekad said:

We can guess your criticisms though. Usually it's that the show "never answered questions" when in reality, the number of mysteries that were not answered pales to the number that were. The only things really left (some of which aren't major) are:
1. The importance of Walt and Aaron
2. The cabin
3. Illana's backstory
4. How Jacob could leave the island at will
5. Outrigger shooting
6. Pallet drop
And even 5 and 6 are not complete mysteries. We have some likely guesses for those. Someone on Illana's outrigger probably got shot. And Eloise was likely behind the pallet drop. Plus, some of it might be answered in the epilogue. And if not there, maybe the encyclopedia.
