lol that's true. Well, I usually try to shy away from watching things with my dad cause it'll just turn into some sort of lecture about how I should be learning a life lesson or something. So I approached my dad about Lost by saying that there's a lot you can take away from the show if you analyze it and it's not just mindless entertainment, so maybe that's what got him interested. I'm definitely going to try to refrain from causing any arguments or anything though, cause I want to enjoy this rare moment of watching TV with my dad in peace.gdt5016 said:At least you can bring up your daddy issues while watching with your father.

:lol nice. Yea, he's been trying to downplay it. The first time I watched Lost (watched season 1-5 on DVD and then season 6 on TV) was with my mom and she saw through close to the end of season 2. She stopped watching though cause I was so hooked and would watch too many episodes a day for her to keep up so she just gave up. The most we ever watched in a day was like four episodes, so when I tried to tell my mom that my dad watched eight episodes (half of which while I was at work), he was like "ssh, you don't have to count".Catalix said:Awesome story DarkWish, and also very familiar. Your dad sounds a lot like mine, and I had a similar situation when I tried to get him into LOST. I could tell he tried to play it cool at first, but a few episodes in, he was having rather impressive mini-marathons. He's never done that with any show before. I guess it just has that amazingly accessible universal appeal (S1 at least, lol). In his case, I could tell he latched onto the Locke character and some of the show's overall redemptive themes.
It was so bizarre having casual conversations about Hurley, Sawyer or the goddam Smoke Monster with this stoic, conservative man that I thought I knew. :lol It led to some interesting dialogue between us. Worlds collided like crazy for those few weeks. Definitely a time I'll cherish

Yea, and just about as many people explained the opposite. Kiiiiiiiiind of why this thread is so huge. I'd link to it but...well, you're already in it.Erigu said:I guess I could have explained what I meant by "mess of a show", but so many people did that already...

Just out of curiosity, what made you think a 2 month old article was relevant and/or new in a huge topic like this?Erigu said:I guess I could have explained what I meant by "mess of a show", but so many people did that already...

You mean, in a topic about a 2 month-old episode? Gee, I don't know! :lolbig ander said:Just out of curiosity, what made you think a 2 month old article was relevant and/or new in a huge topic like this?
'Guess we disagree, shockingly enough. Which apparently means I should tell you all to "fuck off"? How does this work? I'm new, here. Many of the "mess" comments have been contested by others.

I'm saying that this article and the several like it and the situations surrounding them have been discussed to death. Discussion now mostly pertains to the DVDs and remaining interviews and previews and looking back on the series. If I wanted to have the same discussion for the nth time, I'd just go read old posts.Erigu said:You mean, in a topic about a 2 month-old episode? Gee, I don't know! :lol

A possible interpretation regarding the recent spoilers. 'Guess I wasn't allowed to do that.Snuggler said:It's just that you've dropped in and posted some information with no value whatsoever
I was just surprised (and, yes, disappointed, quite frankly) to see how positive the topic was.while trying to ruffle our feathers
Well, I'm not the one telling people to "fuck off" simply because they disagree with me...I'm down for good discussion with someone who disagrees with me, but you've kind of failed to do anything aside from being a mild annoyance.
And that's what I was posting about as well.big ander said:I'm saying that this article and the several like it and the situations surrounding them have been discussed to death. Discussion now mostly pertains to the DVDs and remaining interviews and previews and looking back on the series.

Sorry if my opinion "ruffles your feathers", but it wasn't formed with that objective in mind. Just like all your positive reactions to the finale (most probably!) weren't meant to depress me but did anyway.
Well, I'm not the one telling people to "fuck off" simply because they disagree with me...
So... Are you up for a good discussion? I wouldn't mind that either.
And that's what I was posting about as well.
The thing about the show being a mess was just a comment in passing. People apparently didn't take it too well, so I posted that article, as I think it does a good job of explaining my problems with the show.
But I see I'm being labeled a "troll" anyway, so... 'Guess you simply can't criticize something without being a troll, now. Ah, Internet!
I disagree with y'all. I'm not pretending otherwise. Does that mean there's no way we can discuss in a civilized manner? Apparently, you think it does. 'Guess I disagree about that as well...oatmeal said:Yeah, you're here for friendly discussion...

And will anybody care to tell me what was the "misinformation anyone here could debunk or explain" Arment was talking about?thekad said:No one cares :lol
DarkWish said:And it continues... I was getting my wallet and keys and stuff from my room and heading downstairs to eat breakfast and I hear Lost on the TV downstairs. Looks like my dad decided to watch the season 1 finale right in the morning. I brought season 2 downstairs for him and headed off to work. I come back and he's finishing up the second episode of season 2. I watched episode 3 "Orientation" with him, and now he's watching episode 4. I tried to ask him his predictions and stuff, but he barely tells me anything. He reluctantly told me that he believes Jack, and he when I asked him about the numbers and Hurley he said "sometimes people will believe what they want to think" so he thinks Hurley is just making it all up. I pretty much expected a response like that from him. But yea, he's still speeding through.

Also, can this "Blader" really explain every mystery of the show? Because I wouldn't mind seeing that. It should be interesting, right?
We could start with... I dunno, Jacob's cabin? What was up with that?
Come on, I'm trying, here, guys... Do you really want to keep that to the "let's call him names because he doesn't like our beloved show" level?
He's already freaking out at how many episodes there are. I told him later seasons have like 16 episodes and he said that's still a lot. Oh well, I only expected to watch the pilot with him, but now he's on season 2, watching 8 episodes a day, and watching without me too... so it far exceeded what I thought. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how long it lasts.Drealmcc0y said:Judging from your posts he could very well quit. Theres some shittys episodes in the first half of season 2.

That's funny, because I remember many die-hard fans saying it was too early to discuss the quality of the writing when the show wasn't over yet, and now that's it's over (two months! that's, like, four eternities and a half!), it's too late. Who knew the window would be so narrow?thekad said:Did you misread my post? I said no one cares. Sorry, you're too late.
Could you explain why? Where was that article "straight up wrong", for example?Nameless said:That Adam Quigley article literally made me unsubscribe from /filmcast a couple of months back. My interest in the podcast was already dwindling, but being completely unable to take one of the hosts(and biggest motor mouth of the crew) seriously sealed it. Poorly written, horribly thought out and straight up wrong in several areas--dude should have been ashamed of himself for publishing it. Hell, anyone who cites that as credible should feel just as bad about themselves if not worse.
Nameless said:how about do it yourself and state exactly what makes this show a "mess".
Why do waste your precious time arguing over a show you don't like. Your parents must have not hugged you enough or something. Yep that's it.Erigu said:That's funny, because I remember many die-hard fans saying it was too early to discuss the quality of the writing when the show wasn't over yet, and now that's it's over (two months! that's, like, four eternities and a half!), it's too late. So, basically...
"You're wrong about the show being a mess, and that's it. We could totally explain why, but we won't bother."
Is that your whole argument? Really?

Because failures can be as interesting, if not more interesting, than successes?threenote said:Why do waste your precious time arguing over a show you don't like.
I did already and mostly saw positive reactions to the show... Was there a long debate over the quality of the writing, really?oatmeal said:Seriously, select a random page...you'll find something in there.
I dunno, when I see negative criticism regarding about a work I appreciate, I ask the guy/gal to elaborate. (and I never said anything about my time being precious, really... I just spent half an hour trying to figure out the Ainu word for "coffin"...)
