If anyone but Locke had said it, it would have seemed stupid.
But, they have created Locke as a character who basically knows everything, and has a connection to the island. Thus, I'll buy it. They created the character well enough that I am perfectly fine using him as unrelated exposition in terms of a situation.
Another note: I think this is the first real boar they've used in a major role. They used CGI Boars in the pilot and first episodes, I know, as they found they had problems with them. Nice to see that it kind of worked out here. The boar dumping Sawyer in the mud? Great stuff.
