I miss lost. There is no scifi or thrilling show like that anymore... Well maybe person of interest
I know that feeling. Fringe was all I had left in that genre, and now it's gone ;_;

Shingeki no Kyojin begins next month and has mysteries and a flashback-based structure!
... Sure, it also has reveals that make sense in retrospect and don't feel like they've just been improvised, but hey, two out of three isn't so bad.
I should really get back into some of those other shows you recommended a while back. Don't know why stopped, since I was actually enjoying them.

Thoughts on Fringe finale? I thought it was ok, a bit sudden, I didn't even realise the episode was almost over when the credits rolled. Was nice though, clearly what the season had been working towards. I don't know if it could have ended any other or better way.

I need another 'cult' show in my life, something with that rabid following that Lost had. I remember by Season Two the fansites were plentiful, podcasts galore, message boards full of theories and discussion, official ARGs and so much more. The show didn't sit back for a week between episodes, there was a constant buzz.

I fear there have been too many failures like The Event, Terra Nova and maybe Revolution (from what I hear) and TV has moved on.

Just got home from picking up season 6...

Edit: I'm not sure if that worked the way I thought it would. But it's a funny gif, so it stays!

The show doesn't really fit together properly at the end, is what I meant. But I was still left satisfied with a brilliant final episode.

I'm definitely going to buy the Fringe Bluray collection once it's out. I'm hoping for at least by the holiday season, maybe in the summer. I still need to pick up the BSG collection one of these days. Probably get both of them during a Black Friday sale later this year.

Maybe have the discs inside a miniature Observer torpedo. :D
But honestly I find the less packaging the better. I LOVE the Bond anniversary collection. Tons of blurays in very slick, compact packaging.

Uh... That gif made no sense. You fail.

Edit: Season 6 has a pretty meh start, I'm starting to fade.

Yeah, the last episode definitely felt rushed to a certain extent, but overall I was very satisfied with Fringe's conclusion. Solid build up with a well earned payoff. There were a lot of meaningful call backs to earlier seasons that I was not expecting them to address ever again. But they totally did! The sense of love and affection among the core group was also beautifully portrayed. The entire season wasn't perfect, but in most respects, I felt the writers worked overtime trying to make the various pieces truly matter in a coherent way (something I'd hoped LOST would've done during its own final stretch).

But hopefully we do get another quality genre-fiction program that strikes a chord the way LOST and Fringe did. It's hard to imagine it happening, but I'm now hopeful again...

I'm sure there are, it just feels really slow moving right now and drawn out. I'll get through it eventually but definitely at a slower pace than before.

I remember thinking the same at the start of season 6, "man this is moving slow for a final season", then I remember it kicking up a gear and there are a few classic episodes. Season 6 is very much a mixed bag. It contains some highs, and some lows, and a lot of in-between. Still love the finale though!

man, I still remember how HYPED I was for Beyond the Sea. I actually thought "it'll be about the MIB and Jacob, there's no way I'll be disappointed".

I'm still pissed about it. I should get over it, but I can't :(

Started S5

Time travel :(

Me too. The time travel is actually done really well. In terms of plot holes and stuff like that....they avoid it with their version of TT. Mostly...there's one thing they let go for thematic reasons. IIRC.

It still amazes me that Damon could hate the Star Wars prequels and then the mark on Across the Sea as badly as he did. I know it's bad form to criticize actors you hired to play characters you wrote, but how did he not realize how bad of an idea it was to shoulder such an important story on child actors?

I totally understand dropping Fringe during S4. Some truly baffling decisions were made by the writers that year. Interesting experiment, but it ended up doing more harm than good. So much worthwhile development from previous seasons was undone in the process. Worst of all, it was just straight up boring and aimless storytelling, with a lackluster resolution.

Gave me serious LOST S6 vibes :P

I didn't mind the idea of Peter's disappearance and the consequences, but some of the creative decisions were bizarre. Alt Broyles being alive again and Nina being Olivia's foster mother were pointless. More 'made up as they went along' than anything Lost ever did.

I thought S5 of Fringe was great, even if there wasn't enough clarity and focus on the Observer-led era. At points it was made out to be a near-apocalypse, at other times people were carrying on normal life.

Not watching s3 of fringe automatically makes you a bad person. if you skip 4 you're redeemable but you should still see the excellence of 5

Avoid season 6 at all costs.

Avoid horrible suggestions like these. Even if someone doesn't end up liking it, at least they will know the complete story and can, you know, judge for themselves. I realize that's a fucked up notion and all but nobody should ignore or avoid something because someone on the internet told them to. Some people like things that others do not. It's called subjection.

Personally I thought season 6 had the most depth, resonance, and poignancy.

I would say that 4 and 5 are on par because I felt like they wiffed it in the final season :/ Great finale and all but overall it wasn't the story I expected it to be and it wasn't something to keep me engaged week to week.

Fair warning, some of the stuff will not get tied up at all. And others in a lackluster fashion. But the characters will truly shine and and their stories all come together. Whether that is enough for you will determine your satisfaction with the final season/episode. For a lot of people, it isn't, and thats fair enough.
Categorically false.

The only characters that have a satisfying arc are the ones that die in season 4 or earlier.

The rest just become vehicles for advancing the "let's make it up as we go along but not explain it" plot.

Show peaks in the second season, gets bad in fifth season, and jumps the shark in sixth.

Even though I'm not the biggest fan of latter-day LOST, I agree with this sentiment.

You should watch the whole story for yourself and draw your own conclusions. It's unpredictable how each person will react to any piece of entertainment, let alone something as inherently divisive as Season 6. Just give it a chance, you might have a surprising reaction.

After four seasons out of six, I'd say that you might as well go through with it and form your own opinion, yeah.
Even if...

... it might end up being a very odd opinion indeed!

Rewatching lost and at House of the Rising Sun.

It takes awhile for the show to find a footing beyond each episode but man...all these feels. Kate and Jack were so innocent and flirty. :(
