Well, it's true.
I lost count of the idiot balls that were handed out during the course of the show, for one thing. Poor characters...

I'm Erigu. I used to be a huge fan of the show, even though I don't like the story, and there's a billion plot holes, and the characters and their arcs sucked-- but I used to love it.
'Dunno if that's supposed to be a joke or if you're genuinely mistaken... but I never was a fan of the show.

It is good. Not that you would know...

I'm talking about the scene where Ben and all the losties meet up together off island. Every single time that scene was shown from a different perspective, several major things changed. For example, the first time we see that scene, Sayid says something along the lines of: "If i ever see either of you again (Jack and Ben), it will be very unpleasant for all of us." Next time we see this scene, in Sayid's episode, he says "If I ever see him (Ben) again, it will be very unpleasant for both of us." I'm fairly certain they talked about it briefly on the podcast, and Darlton said something like "there was a reason for this."
Well, technically, yeah, I guess there has to be a reason. Somehow, I doubt that was an in-universe one though, despite what those two hacks would undoubtedly like to pretend. :lol
(or maybe they'd blame somebody else instead? was Rebecca Mader around?)

'Found it.

In "This Place is Death":
BEN: There's someone--someone here in Los Angeles. Let me take you to them, and I'll show you the proof.
SUN: Someone? Who?
BEN: The same person that's going to show us how to get back to the Island.
KATE: Is that what this is about? You knew about this?
JACK: No, no, I was...
KATE: And that is why you're pretending to care about Aaron, to convince me to go back there?
JACK: I wasn't pretending anything...
KATE: This is insane, you guys are crazy.
JACK: Kate...
KATE: Jack, don't!
BEN: Sayid, where are you going?
SAYID: I don't want any part of this. And if I see you, or him again, it will be extremely unpleasant for all of us.
In "He's Our You":
BEN: There's somebody--somebody here in Los Angeles. Let me take you to them.
SUN: Who?
BEN: The same person that's gonna show us how to get back to the island.
KATE: Is that what this is about? This is insane. You are all crazy.
BEN: Sayid, where are you going?
SAYID: I don't want any part of this. And if I see you again, it'll be extremely unpleasant for us both.
'Guess they changed it because they decided to have Sayid shoot a young Ben in 1977...?

Around that time, there would also be the scene between "Bentham" (gotta love how the characters call him: that sounds so natural!) and Jack...
Initially, Jack's motivations for going back was that Locke supposedly told him that bad things were happening to Sawyer and the others and it was their fault for leaving. Then, we saw what had happened to Sawyer's group... and it didn't fit. Locke solved the whole thing by turning the wheel, and it never was the Oceanic 6's fault in the first place. Whoops.
So when we finally see that scene between Jack ad Locke... Well, Locke can't quite say what he was initially supposed to say anymore, right?
And what of Jack's reasons for wanting to go back to the island, then? ... Ah, fuck it: let's just say he goes nuts. There. Done. Besides, crazy characters make for great puppets: "I barely know you, Faraday, but I'm completely on board with your plan to detonate a hydrogen bomb!"

Yes! Fits the formula perfectly...italicized word, bash writers, add emoticon.

You're a terrible writer, change it up.

It was soooo good. And I showed people the next day on YouTube at work. It was in 1080p, and if I only had the fucking foresight to download them JUST IN CASE...Goddamnit.

I emailed the Times people and they said that it will likely not be released again due to licensing issues with ABC.

I posted on the Darkufo forums today asking them...hoping I get a bite.
I'll look for it too. If you find it post it here.

I was listening to the Lost S6 Soundtrack (Last Episodes) in the car today, and it made me reminisce.

Eh, sounds like generic rock to me...

It's funny, this has been such a LOST holiday for me... My dad, my brother and I got the LOST Blu Ray sets. I got my dad and brother the LOST Encyclopedia for Christmas, and my dad got me the FINDING LOST: SEASON 6 book (great read, plowed through it quickly). My cousins got my uncle the Blu Ray set as well, but they've never seen it so I was able to watch the pilot with them in their theater.

Tonight was a family dinner, and all my dad, bro and I talked about was LOST. It was great fun. My dad finished it in October, and my brother in August. My brother is a writer, and is hard to please, and he even thinks LOST is well-written.

I need to set up a one on one with him and Erigu.

LOST fucking sucks.

That's great. I've been trying to get my dad to watch Lost, but he's not into TV that much. It was always my Mom, my sister, and I watching Lost when it aired. I got my Aunt to watch a few years ago, but she still has to watch season 5 and 6. She loves the show. I'm dying to do a rewatch (I have the blu ray collection). I just need to wait a little longer.

Btw, hows the filmmaking going, oatmeal?

Good, been busy lately. Not really with films, but my other work (music videos and whatnot) has kept me pretty tied up. I'm going to try and do something bigger this year, though, brandonh and I are working together on a couple of things.

There's something to be said for being masochistic. Watching a show you hate to point out flaws is something everyone did. For maybe an episode or two of Vampire Diaries or something. Watching six seasons of a show in which you hate is insanity. There is no way that Erigu hated the show 100% unless he's clearly insane.

I know attacking him instead of his position is not really fair but one does have to question the wisdom in dedicating so much of his time to this. If you're not trolling I fail to see what's in it for you dude.

Because it was a good show. Good at being terrible, and written by two charlatans who don't give a shit about their story. ^_^

Like I said many times already, I enjoyed watching the trainwreck.
Surely, the concept of watching terrible movies or TV shows just for fun isn't all that new?

Not even Armond White or the MST3K guys spend this much time and that many words tearing apart what they don't like day in and day out.

And they're better at it.

Hey, English isn't my first language, that doesn't help! Besides, I'm pretty sure I'm still doing better than most of my opposition, here, so that's fine by me.

Sure, but watching 100+ hours of something you hate and then discussing it more fervently and at greater length than the most avid lover of it kind of does put you in fairly limited company. I've certainly never seen the like.

Everyone loves to watch Plan 9 for how bad it is, but if it were dozens and dozens of hours wouldn't it seem like a ridiculous waste of time to watch it just to mock it? I mean, if that's what gets you off, more power to you. But surely you can understand that it's extremely unusual.

Out of no where been listening to the soundtrack of Lost again. It's so good. Can't believe season 6 almost started a year ago. I remember seeing promos for it during last year's new years ball drop.

"100+ hours" ('should be less than that, I believe?) makes it sound like it's this huge undertaking. Even over 6 years, really?
And again: I was having fun.

discussing it more fervently and at greater length than the most avid lover of it kind of does put you in fairly limited company.
If I were wrong, maybe I would be presented with more counter-arguments. Personal attacks take less space, and that kinda throws the whole thing off-balance.

"Dozens and dozens of hours!!"

Again, let's put things in perspective... I'm not sure what the total length of the series would be, but according to Lostpedia, the final episode was "produced hours 120 and 121". Let's go with that. A regular episode is roughly 45 minutes long. That's 5445 minutes over 6 years.
Or around 17 minutes per week on average.
Quite the extreme behavior, indeed. Clearly, I'm in need of medical help, and I'm glad you're here to tell me as much.

Damn, you're right. Dec/Jan is when the official hype machine for the next season would usually kick into high gear.

:(

I know I would certainly not watch something I dislike to that extent, and even if I did, I wouldn't parade around my hatred of it. That goes for anything. I looked forward to God of War III for years and it was one of the reasons I bought a PS3. I despised the game.

Now, go to the God of War III OT and find how many posts I made about it after the game was released. I didn't like it at all, so I shared some quick impressions and even wrote a mini-review in the GAF game reviews thread, but other than that I haven't consistently showered my hatred over the game in front of everyone who liked it.

Hated...for God of War III?

what the fuck!?

I found it to be a pretty empty series of graphically spectacular setpieces and the last third of the game couldn't have had a more boring set of environments. Also the final battle which has been built up for three games was a serious letdown. God of War II was way better in every way.

Willy105 said:
God of War is definitely not for everyone.

Oh, it's for me, I love the first two especially the second. I just thought the third game seriously under-delivered.

Castlevania was the best God of War game this year, hands down. :lol

Anyway, Lost.

It's so hard to get someone to watch Lost after they heard so much about it.

They think they won't like it, like the part where the island moves and that it's weird.

Erigu puts in the amount of effort and research that one would normally expect people arguing politics or religion to display in arguing their respective theses.

My goodness, I remember doing this when I was 13-16 years old on the Nsider forums. Adults still have the time to do this? :lol

Yeah, I like doing that (not just for Lost, for the record).

Well, not arguing about politics nor religion frees up a lot of time. :lol

Just got done watching the final season. Powerful stuff but alot got unexplained.

What was the deal with Walt's powers? In season 1 he reads a comic with a polar bear in it and then a polar bear shows up later in the episode and then in one of the flashbacks hes looking at a bird in a book and the bird smacks into the window.

What is the origin of the "bad luck" numbers that Hurley was told about from that guy who was in the army?

Was the 4 toed statue ever explained?

Walt is personally the only thing that ever truly bothers me that is left unexplained.

Him looking at the polar bear in the comic is just a red herring though, the DI brought the bears to the island.

There is no answer to how the numbers gave Hurley "bad luck". You make your own luck.

If you want to know what the importance of the numbers were to the DI, watch this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PPCCcXarkc

The 4 toed statue is the goddess tawaret, the goddess of fertility. There were most likely Egyptians on the island at 1 point(hieroglyphs) and they probably had fertility problems so they built tawaret.

You are often wrong, and you have been presented with plenty of counter-arguments. But instead you personally attack either the poster, or the writers, and then come back with other arguments to deflect the fact that you were wrong originally.

Quit playing the hurt victim, dear. It's not a hot look.

Drealmcc0y said:

Really? I mean, it's bad, indeed, but on the same level as stuff like "Miles can hear dead people because", "Hurley can now see dead people because", "Hawking knows a whole bunch of stuff because", etc, after all...

Him looking at the polar bear in the comic is just a red herring though, the DI brought the bears to the island.
A red herring would be the writers trying to mislead the audience. Here, it's pretty damn obvious they dropped that particular idea and went with another explanation (maybe because they finally realized that keeping Walt on the show would be a bit troublesome? nice to see they're thinking ahead).

There is no answer to how the numbers gave Hurley "bad luck". You make your own luck.
So you're saying it was all a series of coincidences? And that seems believable to you?

If you want to know what the importance of the numbers were to the DI, watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PPCCcXarkc
Valenzetti gave numerical values to the core environmental and human factors in his equation: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42. Only by manipulating the environment, by finding scientific solutions to our problems we will be able to change those core factors, and give humanity a chance to survive.
I mean, sure, who doesn't love nonsense?
And then, there's that thing about spreading a virus, and... Yeah, 'looks like that was supposed to explain all that sickness / "QUARANTINE" thing but, there again, there was a change of plans.

Ah, but Lindelof apparently still considers the first part canonical, at least:
(let's be charitable and assume Lindelof meant "within the next 27 years from right now" or, of course, it would be ridiculous)

And yet, have we ever seen DHARMA mention those numbers on the show?
Oh, wait, as a matter of fact:
WORKER: Hey, Glenn! What's the serial number that goes on the hatch lid?
GLENN: 4, 8...
[The first worker picks up metal stamps and pounds them into the metal hatch lid with a heavy mallet, one by one.]
GLENN: 15...
[The mallet pounds twice.]
GLENN: 16...
[The mallet pounds twice.]
GLENN: 23...
[The mallet pounds twice.]
GLENN: Hold on a minute. It's smudged.
HURLEY: 42.
GLENN: 42.
Yup, it was just a serial number to those guys.

The 4 toed statue is the goddess tawaret, the goddess of fertility. There were most likely Egyptians on the island at 1 point(hieroglyphs) and they probably had fertility problems so they built tawaret.
Of course, that would be completely unrelated to all that deal with women dying in childbirth, as it was eventually revealed that started in 1977. Or, y'know... there was yet another change of plans, and once again, you're supposed to just roll with it. Nothing to see, here. The writers "moved on".

Yes, Lost and its writers would like you to know that "moving on" is important. Just "move on" the the next scene. "Move on" to the next mystery. "Move on" to the next twist. Don't dwell. Or you might just try and make sense of what's going on. And that would be terrible.
(personally, I'd suggest "moving on" to better stories... any good one would do, after all)

It's funny, you tell me to go look up all of your mistakes throughout your LOST posting history, and yet you won't find me ONE example of one of the aforementioned reviewers spending as much time refuting one piece of work as much as you do.

You claim they do it for many, many, many titles... But you can't find even one?
Madness

Unlike you, I don't care enough to go back and read your ramblings over and over again. I have no desire to look through this threads history to copy and paste every single instance of you ending up with egg on your face.

But you spend seemingly all your time on here searching for specific pieces to shoehorn into your posts... so I just thought that you might want to back your claims up again by finding a SINGLE instance of AW trashing something as long as you have.

This time try not to throw a hissy fit and insult me. But I totally understand if that's all you have.

Erigu annoys me because he keeps putting apostrophes at the beginning of sentences.

*sigh*

I'm saying that they tear a whole bunch of stuff apart. That they've been doing so for a while now. That it's, you know, their job.
You're comparing my posting in Lost topics like this to those guys' careers? They have one hell of a head start.

And you know, if I were writing reviews or commentaries like them, my Lost text would be a great deal shorter than the sum of my posts on the subject so far. In good part because I wouldn't have to write this one post right here, or any of the others where I defend myself against your personal attacks (when you can't attack the arguments, just go after the guy who made them, right?) and ask for actual arguments / evidence instead.
But as it happens, this is a discussion, and for some reason, I cling to the foolish hope that you will eventually realize how profoundly dishonest it is to claim that I'm the one who keeps making it personal, around here.
For example, did you notice I just posted a series of Lost-related points, right above, or were you too busy focusing on me, as usual?

This time try not to throw a hissy fit and insult me. But I totally understand if that's all you have.
Shameless, like I said.
