I'm looking forward to the game as much as the next man, but this is is getting a little bit dodgy.

Orcs

Wargs

Ents

Shelob (I know Gohma's been around since game 1, but not running after you with the camera angle from LOTR and wrapping you up in a cocoon)

Balrog

Horseback battles

Anything else?

seriously .. those things existed in books and movies long b4 LOTR movie was created.
ah... no shit... considering the movies were based on books ;P

There's one major difference: LOTR was a huge disappointment while the new Legend of Zelda will rock.

Yes, I went there.

I thought it was a spider wrapping link in a web? I didn't see Gohma do anything except chase Link.

One man's rip-off, another man's homage.

Seriously, there is influence from Lotr, but then when has any fantasy NOT? That's what makes the stories such landmarks in the genre.

Remember Star Fox? There were obvious influences from countless pop culture sci-fi. Since it was so blatant, people assumed it was homage (Independence Day?). It's not like Nintendo are claiming to have created the ent or warg.

DON'T YOU REMEMBER?

LotR ripped off AD&D because AD&D had wargs first!!

Zelda's ripping off AD&D! :lol

I think there is a glitch that lets you do it anyway.

Not really. If you save after you loose your sword in the Ganon fight and reboot in early copies (gold version) you can pull them out, but not really use them. You could longshot to something and float away forever though.

I seem to remember something else from SDA. Too arsed to look for it, since that thread is huge.

Zelda rips off more than just the LotR.

Look at all that the stole from Disney:

Master Sword = The Sword and the Stone
Link clothes = Peter Pan
Link's bow = Robin Hood
warthogs & red-assed baboon = The Lion King
Gohma = Monster's Inc
cats = Aristocats
wood creature = Pinocchio
that statue = the Tikki Room
Link's fighting movement = Miracle

Then we've got:

deku plants = Little Shop of Horrors
Link's ears = Star Trek
horseback riding = Braveheart
Link's shield covering his back = Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The giant moon = ET

They even stole the name of game from a hairy-lipped, german women.

It's not even that Zelda's visualisations are based on the books... that'd be a bit more acceptable. There's a clear influence from the films. I think you're in denial if you think otherwise.

IIRC, Miyamoto has referenced playing about near caves in his childhood and Ridley Scott's Legend as influences - and it's easy to see both. Since Ocarina of Time, they changed Death Mountain into Mount Doom, and added all the other shit as the thread starter observed.

It might be better than Wind Waker visuals to a lot of people, but not me. Personally I love the way this moves in the trailer. Technically - it's hot, lets face it. But I think it's less unique than Wind Waker, and is definately edging more towards LOTR (the movies) than past Zeldas.

I have a question:

IF LOZ:WW was not cel shaded but the demo version of LOZWW that Nintendo had originally demoed, would some of you even think there are similarities? Cause it would have hit before the LOTR movies.

and oh, that kickass monster that looked like the warped forest spirit from Princess MONONOKE makes this one kicks ass LOZ. :)

I'm pretty sure that cel-shading a Zelda game didn't delay it a few years.
