Modern Zelda Games

People that say this forget how stylized twilight princess actually looked:

Don't worry man, you will get the live action and then spend the rest of your life no game will ever look like that.

Modern Zelda's issues aren't the visuals...

Considering Windwaker is one of the very best in the series, gritty realism isn't what makes a great zelda game.

I do wish one day we get a real modern Zelda game that marries a Semi-open world, metroidvania style with modern designs...

sadly God of War 2018 was the closest thing we've had to a Zelda game since TP.

I would love a From Software-designed world map, the likes of Dark Souls, Bloodborne (not Elden ring) for a new Zelda game. Worlds that feel open, lots of meaningful exploration that wraps in on itself cleverly and makes you feel a sense of progression and reward.

Alas we are stuck with Bonky's Minecraft lands Zelda games it seems going forward, which stinks... But someone will pick up the torch eventually and create a new game, albeit in spirit.
Elden Ring's map design can serve as a blueprint/starting point.

Low effort style found in BoTW and ToTk

Agreed?
55M+ Sold and over 95 in Metacritic… And probably a timeless artstyle…

All this gritty/edgy Zelda talk reminds me of message boards between the reveals of TWW and TP. Constant back-and-forth about what Zelda should be.

Personally, I don't agree at all with the From Soft comparisons. People retroactively remember the Bottom of the Well and Ikana Valley but forget about Tingle, goofy dancing Gorons, anything with chickens, Mikau's goofy final song, alligators painting semi-nude hippos, and King Zora taking a year to scooch over. These games have always had a comedy/tragedy blend comparable to Dragon Quest or a bunch of fantasy anime.

Even the most serious Zelda games have a bunch of wackiness. I don't get why some people think the Shadow Temple is the end-all benchmark for Zelda's tone or something.

Agreed but if Nintendo doesn't want to do this style of art, let From Software handle it.

Nintendo can aid in gameplay development/engine work.

Nintendo has more money than God, they should be able to make their own flagship game, without being intimidated by the level of work, that's why I call it embarrassing lol

Can't wait to have to find an entrance hidden under a gravestone in a Zelda game designed by From Software.
That'd basically be the whole game, nothing else would fit on a Switch 2 cart.

It's been long confirmed every Zelda game that starts with The Legend of Zelda is considered mainline. I don't make the rules. That is just what the rules are.

Furthermore while there is supposedly no Zelda timeline...that doesn't stop the fanbase from creating one and Nintendo/Aonuma rolling with it.

And the Echoes of Wisdom Lore is actually quite good with it's main Villain and adds quite a bit to the Pantheon of higher powers with it's final boss.
I didn't say EOW wasn't good, but I wouldn't compare it to a traditional Zelda game.
No, it's you who created some stupid arbitrary standards that don't exist in reality. Top down/isometric Zelda games are absolutely mainline titles or else it'd mean the first true Zelda game is OoT which is pants on head retarded. Just look at the official timeline, there's no separation between 3D and 2D games they're all part of the same canon.
I didn't say 2D Zelda games weren't I said specifically EOW wasn't. It's an off shoot, spin off whatever you'd like to call it.

it all goes back to that damn SpaceWorld demo. They've never recovered from it. I bet Miyamoto regrets making it.

There's only been a handful of srs bsns elements in Zelda games over the entire course of the series. You're right even the "dark" games like MM had goofy stuff.

Conversely, the cartoonish Wind Waker is possibly the second darkest after MM, which makes Twilight Princess trying so hard to be dark all the more pathetic. Nothing in all of Zelda shocked me more than seeing Ganondorf getting skewered in the head by the Master Sword while a whole realm all around is getting flooded forever by the wish of its own king. Plus, the dialogue that accompanies WW's final battle is most mature than the script of entire games.

I almost hope AI will get to a point where people can just emulate Zelda games and put on them the "mature" AI skin of their choice, so those who want it can get their "BOTW with Elden Ring graphics" while everyone else enjoys something different for once.

Zelda should never look like From Soft games, that's the other extreme.
Zelda's "darkness" is very different from Souls aesthetics. Even Majora which is by far the darkest Zelda game retains some form of goofiness and strangeness that isn't really present in Fromsoft titles, like a dark carnival or a messed up fairytale.

Ironically a series that does this sort of atmosphere pretty well today is Hollow Knight. That mix of cartoony, slapstick tone with a dark fantasy exterior is much more Zelda than it is Souls.

I love the varied artstyle- feel free to change it up here and there.
However, i am still waiting for that tech demo look. I think with the way Nintendo pivoted into their own niche instead of going after graphics- its gonna be a minute.
