At the very least It should look like Infinity Nikki. These are PS4 graphics, so Nintendo has no excuse this time. The "non-realistic" graphics excuse doesn't fly with the current tech available.

Oh for sure. Proper level design and dungeons that aren't in LoZ: Fallout Edition is a big detractor. Especially in most cases where anything can be overcome by Ultrahand or Rocket Shield. Not too bothered about the visuals but the lack of proper dungeons and the massive downgrade in music are disappointing. Two of the best things about zelda stripped out from the new games.
Let me guess, couldn't get past the dungeons?Doesn't contest anything in my post. It's overrated.
And it's actually a 95 on MC, which (unbelievably) makes it the second worst reviewed 3D Zelda game with only Skyward Sword getting a lower score, 93.
Even this could work.At the very least It should look like Infinity Nikki. These are PS4 graphics, so Nintendo has no excuse this time. The "non-realistic" graphics excuse doesn't fly with the current tech available.

I love me a well implemented bloom effect.Yeah but only if they get rid of the atrocious bloom.
Pretty strange remark. I was 14 when the game came out and completed it quite easily, I didn't think TP had a reputation for being a difficult game.Let me guess, couldn't get past the dungeons?
The GameCube version (main one) is a 96.

The water and sky temples are notorious for being confusing and difficult, to complete.Pretty strange remark. I was 14 when the game came out and completed it quite easily, I didn't think TP had a reputation for being a difficult game.
16 GC reviews vs 73 on Wii![]()
Arbiter's Grounds is probably my favorite in TP. And has a hype boss. The water and sky temples are notorious for being confusing and difficult, to complete.
Wind Waker was cool (as a one time thing), it received a lot of backlash at the time due to the art style.I absolutely agree with you OP.
Wind Waker was a betrayal and it still is.
But with the upcoming movie being live action, hope is restored. It seems Miyamoto not going for the an animated looks means he still understands what Zelda should look and feel like.
A 96 Metacritic is absolutely horrible.Twilight Princess is a bad game.
OP should have just come out and done some pre-2010s thing and said Wind Waker was for faggots or something and I'd have respected him more.
Everyone wants this proper gritty, dark looking Zelda where Link wipes his ass with the Master Sword. I'm good.
how dare a video game give you optional stuff to doEnd of the day I just want another semi-linear Action-Adventure RPG and not Sandbox slop.
If the next mainline Zelda ends up like this I dunno:

Collecting poop to get a bigger piece of poop is a waste of time. And the rewards for exploring are about as interesting as exploring in FF16.how dare a video game give you optional stuff to do
EEeeeewwww
I would take Zelda aiming for Studio Ghibli artstyle over all your realism. If anything they need to lean into it even more heavily since BOTW and hopefully tech gets them near drawn art style.

Are you implying From Software games such as Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and so on which have a realistic look don't have style?Imagine wasting resources on fine details and graphics over everything else. Might as well call it Horizon Zero Gameplay. Hard Pass.
This would be awesome but making a big open world with these graphics would be quite the task, besides the biggest budget ever at Nintendo. And then, you need animations on par with those graphics. Very little is said about animations and IMO is the weakest part in modern Zelda games, specially when compared to other cell-shade open worlds, which look two gens ahead technically.
Maybe it's time for the Fromsoft x Nintendo collab and let Fromsoft make a Zelda game. Are you implying From Software games such as Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and so on which have a realistic look don't have style?
That would be epic.Maybe it's time for the Fromsoft x Nintendo collab and let Fromsoft make a Zelda game.
Secret Stones? Demon King!?/10TOTK was a 10/10 game
No, I'd say those games also prioritize game play over graphics, and rightly so.Are you implying From Software games such as Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and so on which have a realistic look don't have style?
TOTK was a 10/10 game
Then don't collect them?Collecting poop to get a bigger piece of poop is a waste of time. And the rewards for exploring are about as interesting as exploring in FF16.
I'm talking to you right now about what is good and bad optional content in Zelda games. Then don't collect them?
Also, what does any of this have to do with this thread about the visual style?
I know, I'm asking you why you're going off topic? no one cares that the collectibles made you upsetI'm talking to you right now about what is good and bad optional content in Zelda games.
Do you have a preferred visual style?I know, I'm asking you why you're going off topic? no one cares that the collectibles made you upset
some of you are like little girls using this place as your personal blog jfc
I like when they mix it up. Totk/botw was one of my favorites and looks incredible on s2, but I'm definitely ready for something newDo you have a preferred visual style?
The last title that attempted a non-cel shade look was in 2006.Zelda doesn't have a defined art style, and that is part of its charm. Just take a look at the impressionistic Skyward Sword, the cartoony Windwaker, the dark and moody Twilight Princess, the toy like Echoes of Wisdom, etc. They all look fantastic in their own right.
As a fan of the series who has played almost every mainline game except Four Swords Adventure (darn you complicated and costly set up with gba controllers! lol) I personally love how varied the series can be. Wouldn't it be boring if everything looked the same?
Yeah but here is not well implemented.I love me a well implemented bloom effect.
Zelda generally does mix things up with its visuals. They do utilize a wide variety of different art styles to suit the games such as the ones listed. I personally like that as it changes things up a bit and makes each adventure a bit more individualized. Each game comes with different themes and direction that can be further emphasized with the visuals. For example, windwaker was intended to be a cartoony adventure on the high seas with goofy pirates. If we put twilight princess's visuals on top of that it loses some of that charm and wouldn't fit well. Placing darker and somewhat more realistic graphics on Skyward Sword would also completely change what they were going for in the game. It's meant to look like an impressionistic painting, which makes sense considering Impressionistic art generally include painting out of defined lines, making the subject and backgrounds almost mesh together. Since skyward sword is primarily about the sky, this makes sense to me as it fits in with the idea of a people literally living in the clouds. There is a sort of soft hazy feel to it that furthers the atmosphere of the game. The last title that attempted a non-cel shade look was in 2006.
Hasn't it been enough time to mix things up?
I also don't agree with this statement here either. Ocarina of time didn't seem like it was going for a dark or realistic approach like Twilight Princess did. I think the best pointer to how Nintendo would have made ocarina of time with better graphics comes from smash bros: melee.Twilight Princess is the natural progression of the style Orcarina of Time was aiming for on the N64.

I admit they haven't done something in the style of twilight princess's for a while, but I personally don't see it as something that is an issue. Twilight Princess looked good and fit what they were going for, but what they will make next might not necessarily have the same qualities that would make that style the best fit. Who knows though? Maybe you will get your wish and they will make another twilight Princess styled game.

It was released on the GameCube around three years after ocarina of time was on the n64 so it wasn't a really long time between releases. Here you can see Link is still bright, colorful, and dare I say a tad cartoony with his body proportions. I just don't see the Twilight Princess look being a necessary progression.
