Sorry but I don't buy into the post-modernist sophistry; there is such a thing as objective truth.

We're all entitled to our opinions, but it has to be accepted that some opinions can, and indeed must be wrong.

That you're arguing with me proves the point!

We can agree to disagree, its fine! But to make that case that two diametrically opposed viewpoints must be equally valid is just horse-shit of the highest order.
Hmmmm. I can get down with that. Like, we know dog shit doesn’t taste good. We should also know that Kojima hasn’t been good since he left Konami. Both factual statements.

Preferences aren't objective to fall under this.

It’s okay to dislike this game and it’s also okay to think this is the best game since sliced bread. I get why people don’t vibe with it, it is for all intents and purposes a walking simulator, a very expensive one. But it’s an intentional design and one that I ended up fucking loving.

Preferences aren't objective to fall under this.

The statement I objected to was that stating "Both are correct.".

Which is self-evidently a fallacy because the positions are contradictory.

Hence the difference cannot be the shared subject of contention, it has to be the perspective of those giving their views on it.

Nothing is both "Great" and "Shit" simultaneously, there is no Schroedinger's Death Stranding!

So logically the difference must be between the observers who ARE NOT the same. And unless you want to contend that everyone is the same, with equally developed tastes, experiencing the game under identical conditions and circumstances, you cannot rule out fault there.

Like I said. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion.

But unless we can discriminate the difference in relative value of said opinions, what value can any of them have ?

Its a wanky circular argument used to weasel out of the fact that somebody could *gasp* be wrong!

If you aren't prepared to defend a position, why offer it in the first place?

When people say "both are correct" they are merely pointing out the nuance of subjective experiences. While two opinions might seem contradictory on the surface, they can both be right within their own contexts. For instance, one person might have an emotional chill experience with the game thanks to its storytelling, while another might find it a boring walking simulator. It isn't "weaselling out" of the potential for being wrong, but about acknowledging the subjective nature of experiences.

As an example. Can the sky be blue and black? Yes. In different places, though. It's the same thing with people. There isn't an experience of "Death Stranding". There are plenty and they're different.

It's not complicated. It weirdly seems like you're overthinking this and being reductive about it at the same time.

I did a 4 word reply initially, which summed up my disagreement in as bluntly concise a manner as possible.

Hilariously we've gone on this long detour because apparently "all opinions, even contradictory ones" are valid when it comes to media criticism, but my robustly reasoned argument that the worth of a perspective isn't baked-in through the mere act of expression, its how rational and supportable it is, IS apparently an invalid position!?!

Do you not grasp how inconsistent this is?

And seriously, this is all in fun!

I just thought it was pretty obvious that when people say "both are correct" its just them being polite. Which bloody stupid in my view because if you having a different opinion to somebody else is a problem for either you or them, there are clearly bigger problems than ones of "taste" or preference !

It does to some dogs. I know a dog who likes to eat dog shit. Even my own dog will occasionally munch on a dried-up dog turd. Just sayin' ;p

And no, I'm not drawing a parallel to people who like Death Stranding, lol.
