Actually a PSP game, Kratos here wants to be close to his daughter who is held captive from the direction of the Olympic gods, the details involve titans, interesting texts on the gods themselves and Linda Hunt as the narrator that comes across very well.

At the time of 2008, the PSP library was growing, Sony paid developers to approve big name franchises like metal gear solid (portable ops), killzone (liberation), socom (fireteam bravo) and here with god of war “chains of Olympus”, and yet I somehow skipped over this game, (I think I liked battlefront, sports games like NBA The Inside, MLB the show, madden and back than MP3 on the PSP was big back than)

I’ll never forget that portable console in the 6th, 7th grade the strong UI, letting friends borrow it for 15 min in exchange for a bag of chips, playing it on the bus to and from school, just thinking about all these memories could be a thread in itself.

I imagine playing this game on a psp would be surreal, I have it on PS3 and here’s a console experience, positive things like the quick upgrade system, easy combat to learn, seeing Kratos before the Viking stage is interesting, his life as a Spartan, the bitterness, protecting his daughter and worrying about her safety is just a treat.

In terms of hours spent, you can beat this game in under 6 hours, so for me it’s a must play game, for me short games are great.

What did GAF think of this hidden exclusive?

Probably the worst of the OG God of War games (outside of the first half+ of Ascension). IIRC, this game had a lot of problems with hit stun? The combat generally didn't feel as satisfying as a result.

The silver lining - big, big silver lining - is the Gauntlet of Zeus, the best subweapon in any of these games. None of the others felt so palpably satisfying to use.

It's okay but still not nearly as good as the original trilogy. I remember playing the two PSP games thinking "these would be so much better if they weren't portable games".

To me they felt unnecessary.

Hot take....the PSP God of War games are the only ones I liked. The console ones don't do anything for me.

I had the other bundle which orginally came with a "Chains of Olympus" digital code along with a UMD of Sparta
I went from having a game gear with X-men mojo world to playing this on the go so my mind was blown

Lots of fun, tons of replay value which is a must for a portable game. I prefer GOW in the short 'arcadey' style
