Call me crazy but I think Lil B is one of the least manufactured hip hop artists working today. Dude does his own thing, for sure. A lot of it is stictly for attention but I think he is behind it all.

She's not that manufactured, IMO..

Expect her marketing team is really good what they do, but other than that I don't really see her as one of the manufactured pop stars? I don't know? Sure she has changed her name, but who hasnt in the industry? Lady Gaga has, Katy Perry has, yet they don't get shit for it. She writes her own songs unlike Rihanna and some other pop girls out their. Now Rihanna is someone who is purely manufctured, yet she is loved and isn't hated like Lana Del Rey has been when she first made some noise.

Come on... Really?

Respect the brand.

She is.

Manufactured? Lol do people still use this junior high level of discourse when it comes to music? I suppose it's better than saying she's not "authentic" enough.

Lana has truly conquered 2012. I only see bright things ahead for her.

She's already been contracted to compose some music for a few films (it is highly likely that The Great Gatsby is one of those).

I cannot wait for her next era *.*

Shes one of the only artists I knew about before they blew up, so I feel cool and shit and like her more because of that.

Honestly though, her songs are rad and they aren't perpetual choruses like 90% of music today. Makes her songs have that extra re-playability.

PopGAF really knows how to sell a post.

I don't undertand what the problem is with being "manufactured." She's no more manufactured than artists like Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Coldplay etc.

....WHAT

Why is her face so...weird? I don't know what to say, her face just looks off, like she broke her nose in 500 different places when she was little and it changed its appearance. Or it's her funny looking brow, it's something.

What term would you use to describe someone who went through the process she did to form her current image?

Truth is, for better or worse she's as manufactured as The Monkees regardless of how much you resent the term.

So she changed her stage name and image after an unsuccessful attempt with her real name. Does she still write and perform her own music? Manufactured is a nonsensical buzzword when it comes to music. Everything is "manufactured" in your definition, but what does that really mean?

She was manufactured for the "alt" crowd though(at least to be perceived as such via the mainstream so as to catapult her there with the coveted "indie" tag), with a hype machine the likes of which the "blogosphere" had never seen.

Blame space, is this lana del rey shade legit? Considering your fondness for lil b, I expect better of you. The fact that she's manufactured is part of the appeal, regardless her brand is absolutely flawless. Truly fascinating really the world we live in.

I played solitaire on my new laptop a few times eggman. My k/d is scust.

holy shit :lol

Honestly I agree. It's like she is some super classy queen but deep down you love the hidden filth. That sultry voice.

But she is. There's a difference between being groomed like Britney and MJ were and being manufactured.

-Lana writes her own music
-She used to make her own videos and now, for her professional videos, she provides concepts and ideas (she wrote the entire monologues for Ride and NA)
-She was the one who created her new names (Sparkle Jump Rope Queen, Lizzy Grant, Lana Del Rey)

If anything, it's Lana who is manufacturing her own persona. Can you say that about Britney Spears? No.

Lana is an artist, and I don't care what anybody else says.

But did SHE change her image? Or did her new label and management get her to change her image based on focus group findings, hence why people are calling her manufactured.

Lady Gaga changed her image before she went big. Look at her when she was Stefani Germanotta. Now she does all this crazy stuff and she gets praised for it. It's all part of the pop culture.

Look at when Rihanna first started.

Look at her now. Everybody changes their image in pop music..

She changed her own image and created the music video that led to her popularity, Video Games.

Ride is probably my favorite song of the year.

I enjoyed the media circus around her. Even with all that, Born to Die and Paradise are great.

My favourite songs of hers are the ones that look like they were recorded with a webcam but I definitely like a lot of her new songs as well (national anthem, Off to the Races, etc).
