LTTP: Odama

I've owned Odama for a really long time but never got around to playing it back in the day. Recently I picked up Aeroporter on the 3DS eshop and remembered that it was also made by Yoot Saito so I wanted to go back and check out Odama. What a weird, weird game. Combining pinball with strategy elements, not to mention the voice commands, isn't something I ever thought would be combined into a video game, but if anyone were to make it, it would be Saito. It's really interesting how you have to multi-task by playing a game of pinball while also managing your troops and tilting the stage with the analog stick like in Super Monkey Ball, all while trying to complete different objectives during each stage. Everything just gets super hectic and crazy.

I really like the concept of Odama and I actually enjoy the game but there is a few things that could be improved upon. The game is very hard and there aren't a whole lot of stages. The voice commands also don't work all the time which is kind of frustrating. It's too bad we'll almost certainly never see a follow up to the game as I think a sequel could improve on a lot of the faults the original has.

For some reason I also decided to do a review of this game. If you still can't imagine how the game plays or what it's about check this out I guess:

I dont know why i bought this and chibi robo... Maybe because it was in the bargain bin. However both games became favorites of mine

Odama seems like the kind of game Nintendo will inexplicably revive on the 3DS or WiiU. I mean, after the return of Sin & Punishment, DKC, Punch-Out, Pilotwings, Kid Icarus, Luigi's Mansion, etc... Who knows.

eeeehhhh, idk. I doubt Nintendo would bring back Odama. The game sold like crap as far as I know.

I really enjoyed these game.

However, giving the "press forward" voice commands while my army perished was pretty unsettling.

They say if you play certain sound effects from this game, backwards, while pressing your left ear against an active washing machine, you can hear the subliminal message, "Vote... for the black... guy."

Adama I know

Odama never clicked for me until one sick afternoon where I had the house to myself, sick with high fever, and huddled with blankets. It was very weird mental state where I was highly medicated and drowsy, sweaty, and yet yelling into the microphone and banging on the bongo drums, marching my soldiers on.

I don't anyone will ever match that type of experience.

I love this game. Hard as balls though - especially as your unit count carries over from the previous mission.

Yoot Saito = hero.

Yeah this game was crazy. My friend and I played through some of it and got stuck at one of the levels with the dam or something. It wasn't until later that I realized the cursor could be moved :/

I finished it after that point, but I def had more fun at my friend getting pissed at the voice commands: "FLANK AND FUCKING DESTROY!" Overall it was fun, but it's a bit of a slog if your troops get obliterated, since you have to go to previous levels and grind conversions. The bosses were really weird in an awesome way, like that human head on the spider body. I don't regret buying it since I got it for $5 new, but hard to say if I would've paid more.

Edit: oh shit, this had bongo support?! That's pretty cool too since there were only like 5 games that did lol
