Just watched it but gonna be quick.

Great movie, I loved it.

I wasn't braced for how bad the CGI faces would be.

It's barely improved over CGI Jeff Bridges from Tron Legacy.

Great movie tho.

The scene with Vader (you know what scene I'm talking about) made the movie for me. I went a second time, mainly just to watch that scene again.

IMO it should've
ended at that part where Vader is looking at the escaping ship from the dock. The following scene was fine but it was pure fanservice.
I didnt think the CGI faces were that bad.

The facial animation was really weird.

(One character was definitely not done as well as the other, but neither where anywhere near Legacy-levels)

OK, they are better from a rendering perspective but the facial animation is still deep in the uncanny valley for me.

Render was fine. Tarkin's issue was that he was overly emotive, I think they tried to avoid him looking robotic and over-corrected. Leia on the other hand was kind of stiff.

I thought both were fine though. And both were better than Downey in Civil War. Fight me GAF.

And sure as hell leagues beyond Tron, come on lol

The bluray leaked online this week early.

It's not in theaters or available to purchase/rent....

You downloaded an illegal copy didn't you?

What I assumed coming in, was waiting for someone to call it out.
There is literally no other way to watch it now.

People who don't pay for movies, come on that is just so stupid. Explain yourself OP.

You know what the best way to do for a movie you want to see? Paying for it man.

The "hope" line is awful and so out of place.

First, Leia is a spunky, sassy type. And when she utters the (in)famous "Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope", it's out of desperation, not earnest optimism.

Everything about the film's ham-fisted "hope" bullshit is so dumb. Sell those fucking toys.

It's still in dollar theaters. At least it is around here.

(which is probably where the leak stemmed from too, I'd imagine)

I fucking LOVED Rogue One. I watched it before watching A New Hope for the first time and it felt like the perfect setup for that film.

Also, yeah, just watched the original trilogy and loved it to bits. I now understand why people love those films.

surprisingly boring as hell considering the awesome old trilogy aesthetic they had going on here and the ensemble.

Gareth Edwards just sucks. I dunno how you can back to back make a Godzilla movie and a Star Wars movie some of the most boring blockbusters of the year.

Movie actually made me tear up, and I've never cried for during a Star Wars movie before except maybe the Revenge of the Sith, but not because of the characters but more of the fact that the series was complete.

Snitches get stitches bruh

What the hell are you talking about? Rogue One is still in theaters, currently in 179 nationwide. Mostly second run theaters.

I remember back when the movie came out that people didn't like the soundtrack. After watching it a couple of times. The soundtrack grew on me. Great movie btw. Dat Vader.

I saw Rogue One once but I was about two rows from the screen at the IMAX and I had such a terrible time. I really enjoyed the shot of the two star destroyers blowing up though. I will absolutely check it out again when it hits digital because I can't believe I would dislike a Star Wars movie.

Both faces were mostly fine except the last one with the extreme close up massive head. The main issue was when they spoke, it was absolutely terrible.

Good film, bit dark which was neat to see in Star Wars.

The majority of the Forest Whitaker plot was really boring except the quite vicious rebels, he was just talking nonsense.

Not enough Mads.

The nostalgia character nods were pure shit. When she walks past those two from a New Hope, groan and will R2D2 and C3PO piss off for just one film. The Han Solo prequel will be amazing without them, thank god.

I need to see it again for more thoughts.

I liked the movie much more than TFA, TBH. It has a nice and varied cast, the last act was quite cool and I liked both the premise and the story told in the film. After having watched the first 30 minutes I already knew that
the main cast was going to die, since otherwise it wouldn't make any sense that nobody mentioned them in Episode IV-VI.

It was refreshing, seeing a film that didn't focus as much in the Force, but just a group of Rebels doing their thing.
_______

Instead of calling out the OT for having watched it illegally, which is not something you can prove, you could talk about the movie.

Seriously. It's Star Wars. It made a billion worldwide in theaters. It's still making money in theaters. It's probably moving a fair amount of merchandise. The Blu-Ray will sell well enough anyway. This isn't a prestige film that barely recouped its budget in its theatrical and is getting a second chance due to the Academy Awards.

What's the argument for including the face CGI?

It honestly just felt like it was included so they could show off their technical prowess.

Tarkin
at the least is justifiable as the the story revolves around the
death star
, and wrestling control from Krennic.
Leia
is a nice callback linking both movies.

The argument seems to almost 100% be continuity-based. They could have honestly applied minor amounts of makeup to Guy Henry as it was and been good with it - dude looked enough like Cushing already that if they weren't aiming to knot this thing together as closely as possible most audience members would have just rolled with it as a recast because... I mean, Cushing is dead and it's almost 40 years later. They'd have understood.

But instead, they decided that they needed this film to work as seamlessly as possible for the inevitable home-theater marathons of the thing?

(Also, it's exponentially harder to recreate a 30-years dead person in computer animation than it is to match the vocal processing on James Earl Jones to what it sounded like in 1977, and yet they got really damn close on Cushing's likeness, and Vader sounds very different than he did in the original movie)

One of the first suggestions for getting around the uncanny valley stuff came from David Ehrlich, who wondered why Tarkin had to already be on the station at the beginning of the movie. If he had been communicating from Coruscant or something, it'd have been easier to fudge the details through all that hologram noise. Save him for the very end, where he commandeers the thing - where he doesn't have to say anything but "you may fire when ready."
