A disappointment for me was Vader when we first see him. How bad was the voice, was it one take or what. I know James is really old but it was terribly spoken like he needed to do another take but never did. The suit did indeed look off unfortunately. The end though, that was awesome.

It's basically just that. There's only so much you can do.

I think it might have been mitigated a little if they'd processed his voice to be flatter/tinnier like it was in 77 (since they were going all-out on the accuracy) but maybe they did try that and it just made it worse? I dunno.

The more time passes, the more I dislike this movie. The characters, the story, the editing, everything was so boring.
Cinematography was the highlight here, and nothing else. Not even that incredilbe but serviceable (and sort of retconning) final scene.

I liked it a lot more than TFA.
And yeah, the effects aren't quite there yet. They're good, but theyre not as good as some of the de-aging effects in some of the Marvel movies.

There is literally no other way to watch it now.

People who don't pay for movies, come on that is just so stupid. Explain yourself OP.

You know what the best way to do for a movie you want to see? Paying for it man.

Movie was better than TFA for me and I really liked TFA. :)

I need to see it in 4k.

As much as I'd like to see the movie in 4k HDR etc, Disney doesn't care about it.

I still think Tarkin looked fine, and Leia looked bad when I saw it months ago.

Where i live its still playing in theaters.

The space battle was incredible.

it looked good, but there was just not tension to it, imo
at first they didn't even know what they were there for and then suddenly they had to destroy a shield because the heroes had to upload a pdf.

there is still nothing that comes close to the battle of endor

felicity jones was distractingly hot at times. anyone else think it looked like she had no eyebrows during one of the end scenes ? i thought she burned them off during an explosion

Watched it again last night.

Saw's lack of screen time screams reshoots or last minute rewrites to me since he plays a major role in the movie, both as a mentor and protector to Jyn as well as a militant leader of the Rebellion. Despite Whitaker's hammy performance he had the potential to be the most interesting thing about the movie. They cast him as this morally ambiguous Darth Vader character fighting for the "good guys." He's on life support whiffing something from his breathing mask that makes him increasingly more paranoid. I liked the Mad Max-like setting on Jedha but he comes and goes so fast it was just weird. Saw was close to her is parents. Saw saved her. Saw trained her and raised her. The imperial pilot defects to find Saw. The empire is looking for Saw. The rebels want a meeting with Saw and use Jyn to get to him. Guy has like 3 scenes and dies. Wtf

Felicity Jones is a bland and uninteresting heroine and her character motivation is underdeveloped. She's sore at Saw for leaving her hanging? She's a criminal working at an imperial camp? She used to believe in the cause but doesn't anymore? There's an entire, critical part of her history as a character that is missing from her character arc to make her evolution interesting. The movie should have explored her life under Saw and her role with the rebellion rather than jumping around to four different planets/locations in span of 10 minutes in the early going. Instead we get a boring information dump from Mon Mothma on Yavin with awkward close ups and weird emotional over reactions from Jones. I must have had hype goggles on when I saw this in theaters because I dug it first time around.

Damn straight.

Hearing the space battle was supposedly the best Star Wars has to offer here on GAF and other places was one of the major reasons I decided to watch it in theater after all, despite my distaste for the trailers.

Well, while it looked good enough the choreography had nothing on RotJ and I needn't even talk about tension when I cared for basically no one at that point.

It's the best simply for having the best ship in Star Wars history.

This movie retroactively made me like TFA a little more.

This is boring, uninspired, badly acted, CGI while competent still not there yet to make me go "I didnt knew it was CGI and not prostethic/make up"

TFA maybe be unoriginal but is competently acted, nicely paced, etc.

All in all, JJ Abrahams >>>> Gareth Edwards

Felicity Jones was bland in this movie and K2SO was the standout. The robot droid was the standout. Mads Mikkelson was better in his limited role than the rebel cast and overall it was kinda a "well we know where this is going but it's Star Wars...". TFA for all it's short comings moved the story forward even if it did so in a safe manner.

The bluray leaked online this week early.

It's not in theaters or available to purchase/rent....

You downloaded an illegal copy didn't you?

It's still in theatres here...

Fuck outta here with Rogue One being better than TFA. I felt more for Rey and Finn at the end of TFA. Rogue One failed at making you feel for the characters and their sacrifices.I was more sad for the fucking droid dying than any of the mains.
Edit: Still buying Rogue One on Blu Ray, but main trilogy is where it's at.

The ending was so sudden, characters just died and boom its over.

Also the forced romance was so forced qui gon jinn thought it was the chosen one.

There was no romance. I liked R1 didnt love it.

There was no kiss but the strings were going when they locked eyes it was clearly a romance that they probably cut the kiss for a lot of the re shoots that were added when the first ending was not so well received so they added vader, if I remember correctly.

Looked really nice. I hope all subsequent Star Wars movies looks as good as Rogue One did. Those landscape shots were especially sublime. Didn't really feel for Jim or Casio or the others but overall I'm fond of it. Does more good than harm with expanding the SW lore.

Alan Tudyk killed it, yeah, but Donnie Yen's character was another high point for me.

He had me until the part where he walks along the beach going "I am one with the force..." and I have no idea what movie they got those Forest Whitaker scenes from...

Alan Tudyk, you're right. I was about to mention him as well. He was great in his role as well. Really well created and well portrayed.

That was one of the best moments!

Yo... OP, what is your standard for "great"?

Like, you can say it's a great movie but do you really think it's comparable to Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia, True Lies, Terminator 1 & 2, etc..

I thought it was fun, although it was a movie obviously chained to whatever setpeices they had on whatever planet.

I just watched it, too. I thought it was quite awful. It didn't feel like they spent any time writing it and all efforts went into visuals. I was very, very bored through the whole thing.

All of these don't deserve to be in the same sentence with Lawrence of Arabia.

I could send you a PDF with a detailed breakdown of how my subjective opinion works, including graphs, equations and multiple timelines.

Or, you know, maybe you're overthinking what I said.

Maybe tomorrow I'll like the movie less once I've internalized more of what I saw.

I think that would be helpful instead of saying, "great movie but CGI faces weren't good... still great though".

Like, I'm not sure what you expected; you dropped the great bomb and you thought that no one would ask why you believe it's great?

Better than TFA. Vader scene is epic as hell and K2SO is awesome. Most of the other characters were meh, this was the closest we'll ever get to some crazy kung fu jedi, but it was worth it. Still want to see that happen though.
