BREAKING: Did you know that this game is good and better than it needs to be? I didn't.

Metroidvania-style exploration. Likeable characters. Semi-open world exploration with multiple large areas. A story that I thought got better as it went along; specifically around the time of
Bode's betrayal and onward. Before that, I wasn't too engaged, but the "twist" made all the grand space fantasy stuff way more intimate, thought-provoking, and relatable.

The best lightsaber combat in a game to-date, taking heavy inspiration from Soulsbourne games to good effect. Although I did wish Cal's downtime in between moves was just a bit shorter--he wasn't as snappy as my Bloodborne character, for example. Multiple lightsaber "stances" to choose from. I went with the Single & Crossguard; Single for all-round coverage and Crossguard for the heavy enemies.

Cal's love interest isn't "generic perfect girlfriend". She wasn't my type, but I think she made sense for Cal and their romance arc was well-done without being overdone, imo.

Performance was just okay on my RTX 3080 10GB & Ryzen 5 5600X rig. Traversal stuttering was noticeable but luckily it didn't occur often in combat. I've certainly seen games that look better than this run better than this does.

I bounced off the OG twice, but this sequel was much improved and I played it to the end without engaging in much side content. I picked it up in the Steam sale for $15 and feel that was the right price for what I got out of it. What did you think of it?

I didn't like the story, but gameplay, combat and exploration were very good.
At launch, it had several technical issues. But after they removed Denuvo and after the new Windows24H2, performance improved a lot.
I played it at launch, almost 2 years ago and would give it a 7/10. But after all those patches and fixes, I would give it an 9/10.

I loved it. Felt like what I want Star Wars to be. As I leveled up I could tell the difference in combat. Loved fighting different enemies. It was easier than Fallen Order to me. Trilla gave me more trouble than any boss in this game.

I liked the story. Excited to see where part 3 goes.

Note I waited to play until ps5 version was patched.

I downloaded it from Gamepass out of curisoity last week, still very early on in the game, yet ironicaly before that I was playing Force unleashed part 1....I skipped Fallen Order as I didn't find it even remotely worth purchasing, watching the movie on Youtube found it to be quite intriguing...lets see how the rest of the game unfolds...

Great generally but ruined by doubling down on emulating souls difficulty with terribly designed enemies. Most notably that fight in the small room with the big dude.

I don't think the stances were particularly engaging either and way too enemies that had energy weapons.

It was ok, like a 6 or 7 out of 10.
I like the traversal and overall level design. Some of the platforming reminded me of the Ps2 era PoP games which was nice, it's something I really miss since most modern games have adopted the braindead AC or Uncharted "platforming" mechanics.

Other than that though I though it was pretty bland. The combat is serviceable but it's one of those games where I feel like the low level enemies are the most fun to fight, the stronger enemies just feel like bullet sponges that don't react to you attacks and on higher difficulties just spam high damage ublockable attacks with awkward timing.
It also still doesn't have anything worthwhile for you to find. It's ugly haircuts, boring clothes and a bunch of customization options for your lightsaber which you won't even see during actual gameplay (aside from the color).

The story is completely uninteresting to me and at least on Ps5 the IQ is horrible, full o upscaling artifacting and smearing

Closer to a 10 than 9, an amazing improvement over the first game technically and especially creatively. Great story, characters, graphics, locations and gameplay. Performance kind of sucks and holds it back, but its way better than the unplayable Stutter Order even though the visuals are a nice step-up and the scope is much bigger.

I generally heavily prefer Star Wars media without lightsabres/jedis, despite that for me its by far both the best souls-clone and the best Prince of Persia clone so far.

Its a type of sequel done so well that it made me retroactively dislike the first game.

Agree with all of these points. It's most fun to force-push Stormtroopers off ledges and otherwise bully them. The heavy non-boss enemies came down to waiting to parry + counterattack for me. The boss fight lightsaber duels were really fun though, imo. Most of them relied on parrying and learning their moves and rhythms. So in terms of fun: low level enemies > boss fights > non-boss heavies.

I stopped exploring once I realized finding a significant upgrade (like health stim boosters) was rare, and was usually cosmetics I didn't care about.

I gave it an 8 overall, and I'll admit it's probably a point higher than I'd score it if the production value wasn't so obviously very high. Running through a room in 10 seconds that you just know developers spent days creating is impressive to me, even though it's not directly gameplay-related.

Didn’t like it.

Too simplified puzzles, exploration, extremely cheesable combat.

I found it to be massive downgrade over original. Dropped it.

Loved it, got the plat trophy, 8.5/10 👌 Canteen was a great "hub area" with a cool cast of characters, I enjoyed just walking around and listening to the various conversations, made the world feel alive. Fantastic exploration, good story, engaging combat, great voicework, excellent game all around despite a *ton* of performance issues on PS5 and this was POST patch.

Story took a LONG time to actually get good, like almost 75% of the way through the campaign. Otherwise there's a lot to like.

I will say, I've yet to see this game running in a way that is acceptable on any platform. It's a mess technically, but a solid action-adventure title.

Competent, but bland and soulless. Star Wars IP has become something a media project has to overcome, rather than providing a boost. For games, you’re basically starting at a -2. For movies and shows that number gets much lower.

The game itself is fine and one of the worst things for me was the “loot”. If all you can offer is cosmetic lightsaber hilts, just don’t bother. By the end of them it’s just insulting when you go out of your way to get one of those chests. I could bring myself to finish the second. My main thought after finishing the first was “this is kinda barebones, but bodes really well for a more fleshed out sequel”. We just never got the flesh part.

I played it in January.
I gave it a 7/10.
Here was the review I left in the relevant thread:
If any game deserves to be called "AAAA", it's this one. The production values are top notch at all levels.
Wasn't fond of all the circus acrobat sequences. Those were way overdone. More environmental puzzle platforming, less hand-eye-timing-momentum platforming, please.

Absolutely loved it to bits. Fantastic sequel that did everything right imo. I love what they did with Cal and hope they can bring the story to a great conclusion in the third one. Gameplay was fun, the maps were great, the combat was smooth and the Star Wars vibes hit really well. Some of the boss fights were really cool and I just really like the characters and their interactions. And the graphics are amazing, I still remember that one part where you had to constantly teleport around or something with Merrin.

Its a solid 7.5 now (maybe an 8 if you like exploration and the open world stuff). At release it was a 6, due to terrible performance. They had a chance to have a really solid star wars game and they flopped it cause they sat on their asses for too long.

Btw for those on the fence - the latest patch (a while back now) removed Deno and mostly fixed performance. Its not amazing, but its extremely playable. I highly recommend you try.

It was the better game between the 2 but i would have prefered that they had slashed koboh (the big main open world location) in half and had maybe 1 or 2 more planets instead for variety.

it had its moments. cere vs. vader fight was incredible.

and this one is unforgettable

it really had cozy vibes. especially that bar in Koboh. NPCs you meet populate it and it gets more lively the more you play

I think one great thing about jedi survivor is that game never feels like a chore. you just do extra activities because it is fun to travel the world they're built. rewards are mostly cosmetic but you still want to do it anyway because traversal is so smooth (stutters aside) and art style is fantastic so you want to see more of it

The Central Limit Theorem and its resulting bell curves is a beautiful thing.

The bosses were indeed more fun than the regular heavy enemies. But I didn't love them either to be honest.
They deflect most of your attacks, so it's all about slowly parrying and attacking them to break their stance, but then once you finally do they are basically just stunned for a few seconds and it's back to square one. You don't get to do some cool finishing move like in Sekiro, and they usually recover so fast you basically only get a couple of free hits on them.

That was another issue I had with the combat, I felt like they gave you a decent number of moves and skills but the majority of them only really work on the weaker enemies (which, again, is why they are the most fun to fight).
For example you can unlock this cool combo with the dual blades, but stronger enemies simply ignore your attacks so being locked into the animation is something you want to avoid (since they'll just hit you mid combo), and bosses simply deflect or parry it and even after being stunned by breaking their stance they recover so fast you can't even hit them with the full combo. So it's basically useless.

The gameplay kept me going until the end, I think it has a good gameplay loop and enjoyed my time with it. It was nothing spectacular but still very enjoyable to play through. 8/10 for me.

I liked the first one well enough (despite having the worst fucking map in years which made clean up hell). I started this twice and just completely bounced off both times. It's just so by the numbers. And if we must have games like this can we please stop monopolizing devs like Respawn to do it.
