LTTP: Star Wars Outlaws

I bought this thing used in GameFly. I expected nothing and I'm coming away with something.

The Goods: The game sometimes looks stunning. If you ignore the character models, it's a gorgeous looking game for the scenery. Cities are nice. Playing on a Pro, the Quality 40fps feels perfect with some mild graphic hiccups (shadows bouncing in a background oddly). The world's (so far) feel fun and not too big but not too small. I'm kind of shocked the world isn't flooded with content like Ubisoft like to do. The gameplay loop is fun if you want kind of a Watch Dogs game in space. I'm actually shocked the space battles are decent. They're a bit better than Starfield but I honestly expected 0 fun from them.

The Bads: This story is super girl boss. Everyone that tries to be cool is like that muscle chick from Fast and the Furious. It's really annoying to sit through as I'm not a girl nor a boss. The entire cool tough chick thing is just not appealing to me in the slightest. And the story is just very mid overall anyway. Outside of that, the characters look really ugly. The main chick looks like an 80s version of my aunt, who smells like perfume and cigarettes. I can't get over that. Her ugly butt chin casts too much shadow, it's a giant Jay Leno chin too, very distracting. And she has a busted up Owen Wilson nose. If I was the actress, I would have sued for defamation of looks or something. And watching her go through a bunch of Storm Troopers by punching them out is hilarious. She's skinny as crap. No way these Troopers stood a chance if they can be knocked out by a karate chop to the mask.

Would I recommend: shockingly, yes. Good graphics, fun gameplay loop, not over cumbersome with objectives. I'd just recommend skipping the story unless you like a domme mommy.

I think it's a fun game that looks amazing. I enjoyed it more than jedi survivor.

Most of the hate for this game was irrational - same story with AC shadows. I guess blind hate for ubisoft games is trendy or something like that...

Yeah the game is good fun and the atmosphere and detail they built into the open world is fantastic. They made finding side quests more natural than other Ubisoft games and I liked it. I liked Kay Vess and I enjoyed her dialogue and humour probably 90% of the time. It is quite Gen Y-ish writing but it was entertaining for me. ND5 was a decent character to put beside her also.

I'm the opposite, I love the Star Wars franchise in general but hated Outlaws, quit after about 6 or 7 hours.. Jedi Survivor, I competed and found enjoyable enough to play through. How you could think Outlaws is better than Survivor I can't understand. Combat and gameplay in Survivor is worlds above Outlaws. Outlaws looks good, that's all it had going for it.

Coincidentally, I added this game to my wishlist just yesterday. It has all the ingredients I like: Star Wars, open world, good graphics, and interesting gameplay. A negative point like the weak story was to be expected. I honestly can't remember the last Ubisoft game that had a truly compelling story that kept me hooked from start to finish.

looking forward to trying it one day - i will work on my back log until game pass

not as interested in this game as the jedi series but the open world part in the star wars universe appeals to me.

I like Jedi Survivor a ton more, but I was expecting a good laugh for $10. I somehow have been enjoying it. It's just Watch Dogs reskinned imo. It's way more fun than I thought it was going to be

Funny....I just picked this up again. Got it used from Gamefly for $8. Going to play it once I'm done with AC: Shadows

Jedi survivor is a good game. What I liked about outlaws was focus on stealth gameplay, infiltrating bases was like Splinter Cell sequel we never got (after upgraded character is quite capable). While Jedi survivor is like a mix of Dark Souls and God of War+Uncharted - we had many similar games in recent years.

I also think main story is not bad and more "fun" than in EA game. Many characters are quite good. To me this game without bugs is a solid 8/10.

its a game that if you gave an extra year and farmed it out to a different studio, it would be great.

but ended up with generic Ubislop open world design.

I've considered it when it reaches the $7.49 mark, but I wonder if it's worth our time. Money aside. You could be doing a Prodeus replay or something. Just not sure.

I played it last week but for me the PSSR shimmering was super distracting... I know they have fixed it in some level but its still there unfortunately so I just couldn't play it anymore after crashlanding on the first planet. The grass and trees was looking awful in the wind I just couldn't play it in this way:messenger_weary:

FYI theres a demo now on PS5....curious if its still ass or if the patches since launch have made it decent?

It's the best realized Star Wars world out there to soak yourself in. Jabba's Palace alone is worth the price of admission to me. And the last few hours (like every Ubi open world game) are fucking awesome.

sorry for the necro but I am trying to decide between Outlaws or Oblivion remaster and the demo turned me off big time last night. would you guys say the actual game is better? the demo just kind of... started
Have you played Oblivion before? If you have completed it already try Outlaws.
If Oblivion is a new experience, go that route.

I did end up getting the full game a month or so later after my post when it was on a good sale. PS5 version.....its about a 7 at best, i couldn't finish it because it eventually turns into the usual Ubisoft bloat where there's so much shit going on and do this, do that, that it almost becomes overwhelming in a sense and you end up not really doing anything.

The Oblivion Remaster is good too, but im waiting for the 2nd patch to come out any day now for PS5 that addresses performance issues. Right now, patch 1 made my PS5 version hitch like crazy when it didn't do that originally.

Out of the 2 i'd give the edge to Oblivion Remaster easily. Probably even moreso once patch 2 is out.

The game is set up for the best first impression it can give though so a lot of people rush in after an hour of play and say " ehh its not that bad ".

But the twist is the first planet is the only decent planet. but half the game? ( guessing because I couldn't keep playing ) after you leave that first planet is dull and barren.

Solution to your problem: just identify as a tough chick and also as a boss and problem solved

I'm trying to find a good place to post this, and a LTTP thread is as good as any. I'm on my 'Rescue Nix from Jabba's palace' mission. To not give anything away here, I'll straight-out say I have a bad reputation with the Hutts.

I'll just tell you this might be the most atmospheric area I've ever played in a game; my palms were sweaty, my heart-rate was elevated, and I was feeling genuine anxiety not wanting to get the attention of any of the Gammorean Guards. It absolutely captures the lighting of the area in Return of the Jedi. It's an enclosed space, but it leaves open multiple paths to avoid detection.

Just wanted to chime in that if this was all the game was, it has taken me back to my childhood dream of exploring that galaxy from a long time ago, and far, far away. It has been worth every penny.

-The syndicate reputation system is more annoying than interesting, ending up with loop of "trespassing" reductions if accidentaly stepping on a huge area in the open world if your rep is already low
-Stealth tools are lacking and the takedown is straight up retarded
-picked up guns run out of ammo way too fast and the blaster modes don't do enough to elevate the combat
-picking up resources from every corner gets tedious
-Girlboss
-Every time Kay opens her mouth to lie she sounds about as convincing as a three year old covered in chocolate stains claiming she didn't eat any
-summoned speeder taunts me by slowly driving away when I approach
- a lot more stupidity that I can't think about right now

so all in all, I enjoyed my time with the game, solid 6/10

At launch it was like a 6/10 but i know they heavily patched it so i can see reaching like a 7- if you are a fan of star wars.

I was about to start one, but at the end found this thread.

I'm like 10h into the game, the game itself is fun, reminds me a lot of Tomb Raider/Uncharted, the music, the space combat is cool, the gunplay isn't the best but serviceable, the story is interesting (as I was like "why would I care for a bounty hunter's life in the SW universe ?" but it's still interesting at the end).

It looks like the game launched in a terrible state with awful ennemy AI, gameplay bugs and other not nice stuff but was "cleaned-up" in November 2024 and now plays great.

Would recommend.

Brought it Day 1 but somehow it didnt connect with me

just platinum Hollow Knight so i need something to go next , i know the game got a lot of patches and stuff that makes it better.

might return to it

Picked this up on Switch 2 and having a decent time with it.

It's hardly revolutionary, and even a year after its original release it has a few bugs, but it's pleasantly free of the usual Ubisoft bloat for the most part, and its fun enough in a dumb popcorn kinda way.

I try not to think about SW much anymore, I haven't even seen the trailer for the new mando movie. This is the first thing anyone has said that made me interested to play this game, now I would if it were free on Epic. Pretty impressive.

A few cents form a fellow LTTP gamer.

PS5 Pro version with 40fps is super solid, game is finally fun and I really enjoy a lot of small details here and there. Will defo finish it in December after Yotei and Sky the 1st.

The environments are cool indeed, it's like a bit of Red Dead Redemption (1st one) with Star Wars elements in it.

I tried the demo on PS5 which starts at Tatooine, I was already bored (like who cares about Tatooine again at this point), after replaying this same section with the whole backstory, made more sense.

Decided to pick this up this week while waiting for NG4 next week. I had it on release and stopped around 5 hours in.

To my surprise I'm almost 20 hours in now and just having a blast!!! I think the gameplay loop is fantastic, visuals on pro are great, and the mechanics of everything are very tight. Oh and it's such a bussling open world design game.

The only major flaw to me, and everyone, is the main character got hit with an ugly stick then thrown down a flight of stairs face first. It's actually odd how she has bags under her eyes, shit eating smile/teeth, and also a male giga chad jaw line. Occasionally her character model looks great but too often it looks like a poop sandwich at best.

I wish I could just put a cloak or hood with a mask on her.

I really hope we get a second game like this and it fleshes it out even more but this time just get a male lead ffs.

Feels really low budget even though some of the visuals are good. I'm guessing the better looking things are assets they've received through either Lucas Arts or some other projects. Most of the aliens you see in the game already had models in Battlefront, not sure if they are shared between EA and Ubisoft.

I have 100% av the trophies but I can't say I enjoyed any of it. All characters are paper thin and the gameplay is really dull. Especially with the basic animations. I assume the jump button was added late, since it can break the game at times. And the character seemingly has one jumping animation that doesn't take in to account if you're moving or standing still. Really basic shit like that will bother me in games like these. But I guess it's because the game has zero redeeming qualities beyond it being Star Wars.

I personally enjoyed the game overall. I kind of wish the story was a bit better, but it wasn't bad. I'd recommend it on a good sale.

A pity about his fate (I know they fired or shut down most of the studios crew?). Definitely deserved more success than AC Shadows.

I played this unpatched when people complained about failing the stealth segments. I'm not really sure who these people were but I'm glad I don't know them.

Most issues were overblown, I think the only downside for me was the faction thing, and guarded areas. I found it tiresome and it could have been done much better.

I tried out the demo on Switch 2. I like the Star Wars environments and sound effects, but maybe I'm just growing out of these types of games. It checked off my itch to play it. Maybe it's that sense of going through the motions pressing buttons prevalent in Ubisoft games. It's not bad, but I need more than the novelty of being in Star Wars world.

One moment the game lost a TON of points for me. I lost the speeder I was riding while fighting two guys on speeders, who left their rides behind. Since I was now on foot, I tried to take one of their speeder bikes and you can't. They just stay there for show. I was like F this game while I started walking the rest of the distance. I don't know why but it kind of broke immersion, guess I'm used to more open-ended games. I was so sure I'd be able to do that, it's worked since GTA! Unrealistic expectations maybe.

Is this worth £20 vanilla version (no DLC) in the sales?

I took a stab at it for $20. It's okay, it definitely nails the SW vibe and look. The protagonist is pretty vapid and annoying, and knocking out Stormtroopers by punching them in the freakin helmet will never not be funny.
I'm having a decent time with it. The bones for what could've been a really great smuggling game are there, they just fleshed it out in all the wrong ways.
Should've have definitely had a character creator and more Privateer stuff. Maybe actual smuggling and whatnot opens up later on, I'm still on the first planet.
