Tom Henderson: Ubisoft recently canceled a sequel to Star Wars Outlaws

For all its flaws, and we all know game had plenty of them, i wanted sequel to exist for the graphics and maybe potentially(its ubisoft so chance was small) redemption in terms of quality, no such luck this time.

Oh NO!
Anyway...

Tbh I kinda wish they stick to their guns and make the sequel to own the chuds.
All the tears, upsets and outrage will be glorious.

Ended up buying this for $14.99 on a whim. It was pretty cool. Didn't care for the main character, she was wasn't offensive just boring. The open world definitely felt like Star Wars and the stealth gameplay wasn't bad.

I really liked how they went with a 70s fashion Star Wars. Women were pretty ugly back then

I tried the demo yesterday, I couldn't even finish that. I almost bought it at 50% sale but no way now. Maybe at 90% one day when I will have nothing to play. But I guess that will never come.
So it wasn't horrible honestly, it was jank but I sorta did a finish what I started and platinumed it but it had some moments, just was what I consider mid all throughout. A deep sale is worth maybe a spin, but it definitely was made by amateurs which is so ridiculous because it could've been a great game.

On a decent discount i bit the bullet, and gave Outlaws a try on PS5. It started out decent and i really didnt mind GURL boss at first.

Once the game starts to open up, it immediately turns into the usual UBIBLOAT where they throw so much shit at you at once, and so many nonstop "do this", "do that" notifications it actually becomes overwhelming at some point, and you end up just running around doing nothing. That was my experience at least. On top of that, seemingly every Stormtrooper was a woman which was just weird. Have a mix of men and women, don't make it so glaringly obvious what you're doing.

In the end i ended up stopping after a few planets because it just became too bloated and boring. If they ever re-visit this series, they need to seriously re-focus what the game is about and take away all the extra stupid shit that just gets in the way.

I think there is an issue with SW popularity too. Disney has killed a lot of the fever that use to be there. The trilogy was bad, most of the shows are bad, and SW games were unique because you could get more SW when the movies were rare. Games were a place where fans could get more of their fix, now you can get SW anywhere, and it isn't special anymore.

SW is no longer what it use to be.

If Disney wants to revive it, they need to have Lucas or Spielberg make a new SW movie.

I get what you're saying, but I'd argue there's still very much a demand for it. I think the gigantic uptick in Battlefront 2 population after Andor's series finale is a perfect example. I think people are thirsty for good/great Star Wars games.

Outlaws just didn't seem that enticing from the start to me, and it's Ubisoft, lol. Not only that, but it had a rough launch and start, though I've heard it's gotten better with time. I know a lot of people mention the look of the main character as if that's a reason, but it's not, from everything I've seen and read she seems like a pretty boring and forgettable character. People want more than that. Especially in a single player experience that's trying to be heavily story driven. I feel like Cal Kestis may not be the most amazing character in the world, but I feel like him and the characters in his storylines are infinitely more interesting. Just like Kyle Katarn and Dash Rendar.

Eh, Lucas or Spielberg don't necessarily equate good, especially in this day and age. Personally, I thought Andor was some of the best Star Wars media in a long, long time. They just need to be smarter about it all. I still can't believe that the recent trilogy wasn't all written and recorded at once like the LOTR movies, or the Harry Potter films. Instead, they were extreme messes that were done as they went along. Especially Rise of Skywalker according to Daisy Ridley, which is an absolute joke, lol.

I agree that not writing out a cohesive outline of a story with background and bad guys and lore and ultimately where it all would end shows itself. They should have taken the first year to just write a story. I think it would have done them wonders. Or to flush out the treatment that Lucas gave them. Mark Hamill told them they didn't give people what they wanted by not putting Luke, Han and Leia on screen together. Also Han and Leia being divorced was dumb, that isn't the hope people want. I think their first mistake not using Lucas story. Then writing it as they went. Then giving it to Rian Johnson. Even when Lucas had other directors he was on set to help with the world and story.

I totally agree. It was so odd. I mean, to know how much the original trilogy meant to people, and just the Star Wars IP. But then you think the actions made for the latest trilogy would be something you're proud of? It's clear it was just for money and nothing more.

Yeah, reading/hearing about the stuff Lucas had planned for his trilogy sounded awesome, and regardless of how the prequels were and are, it surely would've landed better as a whole than what we got. I would've loved to have seen that. It's just so sad and bizarre. Lucas, Star Wars, the characters, actors, and actresses.. Hell, and the fans, all deserved better. I realize that may sound entitled, but it isn't meant to be, lmao.

Same game but without wokism, with a cool and charismatic protagonist like The Mandalorian or Han Solo as main character instead of a female Michael Jackson would have performed way better.

They should realize that -as an investor told them in the last meeting- the woke stuff is damaging Ubisoft and that they should get rid of the woke social engineering agenda. Same goes with Disney/Star Wars.

They've had some hits too though, right?
Lucasarts used to offer the license to companies with a good idea/pitch, so there was a steady stream of diverse games in different genres. This ground to a halt when Disney gave EA the exclusive license to do Star Wars, from 2013 to 2021.
Disney understood they dun' fucked up, revived Lucasarts as a brand in 2021 and tried to return to the old licensing ways. This haven't paid dividends yet.

Games Workshop on the other hand famously started giving licenses to Warhammer & 40k like candy back in 2016 and the value of the property is through the roof at the moment. Played right it's could become the next cinematic universe after MCU & Star Wars/Trek got plowed into the ground.

If they'd done it with more exploration and freedom of action, and given some good characters, rest assured it could have been better received.

Escape from the Bullet, I was going to buy it back then.

I do not understand why they made a SW game that didn't include lightsabers.
They could have gone with a random name and it would have been rhe same thing minus the royalties.

It doesn't have a lightsaber, and it's still great.

The Star Wars games of the 90s and 2000s are great, for their universe, the freedom of choice, and the characters.

But if you add idiots like Finn, Poe Dameron, or Kylo Ren's homosexual, obviously no one will want to play it.

Okay, maybe some of the good Starwars games I'm thinking about were from before 2013 too. But most people like the Fallen Jedi games from EA.

The game once fixed up wasn't too bad and I enjoyed it. As a Star Wars fan I automatically hate any current canon or releases that clash with Shadows of the Empire, which should have been canon always and forever. But that's just me being a Star Wars nerd, who still considers Heir to the Empire the true sequals that never where.

I'll be honest Outaws was pretty close to the tone and feel Lucas was known for, Nyx back in the day would have been huge just like Grogu was. Kids would have eaten that shit up. MD as well was brillaint as part of the crew. The main character (beyond butchered looks from the model) actually worked as a thief/hacker in the universe, different enough from Solo or Dash Rendar.

But this game should have always featured Dash Rendar, missed opportunity.

Seriously. The game wasn't perfect but it captured a lot of OG Star Wars in tone.

There's probably some generational gap as well. Younger people than me loved the prequels but I've always thought they were dreadful.
