So... I saw all three Evil Dead films this week, as well as My Name is Bruce (far inferior),,,, and all I can say is WTF?!!...:lol :lol :lol

Most ridiculous things I've ever seen and yet still badass. The biggest thing that I took from watching this series is that Raimi is a really funny guy, but sometimes he neeeeeeds to be reeled back in- biggest example being Spiderman 3

I finally was able to track down Evil Dead II the other day, completing my collection. I will soon marathon through them all, back-to-back, and it will be glorious.

(Note: I have seen them all before; I am fully aware of their collective awesomeness.)

You think Spider-Man 3 was Raimi making the kind of movie he wants to the way he wants to? I guarantee he had Sony execs breathing down his neck every step of the way. The inclusion of Venom screams of studio interference.

I'm not going to say the guy is blameless. Watch Crimewave to see how tone deaf he can get.

Venom was shoehorned into Spider-Man 3 by execs, Raimi spoke out multiple times in SM1/2 era about disliking Venom and having no plans whatsoever to ever use him.

That said, I really miss Raimi making his own films... The Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 are great. Army of Darkness was very entertaining in my youth, but it hasn't aged well... it's pretty painful these days, and the complete lack any horror (even tongue-in-cheek) kills it.

Bad example. The studio was all over that movie as well. Sam wasn't even allowed to give the lead role to Bruce.

Yeah, I guarantee you Spiiderman 3 was Raimi's fault. Yeah he was forced into putting Venom into the movie, but I'm referring to an insane tonal shift that happens halfway through the movie, the crazy dance scene. I will bet my life that the dance scene is ALL Raime, and NO studio exec pressured that into the movie.

That dance scene is the least of Spider-Man 3's problems.

Hail to the king, baby.

I really love these movies and I really hope Raimi makes Evil Dead 4. Did you watch both endings for Army of Darkness ?

its represents the main problem: complete lack of tonal cohesiveness...

I'm not going to argue there. But not every movie has to be a 2 hour drag like Dark Knight. I think Spider-man 2 was very successful in reaching highs and lows, being fun, serious, emotional and dark. Not tonally cohesive at all, but a journey through all those things.

I hate to foul what should be a celebration thread with Spider-man discussion, but I think Venom is primary problem with 3. He shouldn't have been in there. That's the tonal problem right there. Until then the series was based on the classic comics, then they dragged in the modern shit and fucked everything up.

Anyway:

The Evil Dead II is my all-time favorite movie. The trailer for the picture marked the first moment as a kid that I wanted to figure out who directed a particular picture. Up to that point I knew about Lucas, Spielberg and Hitchcock. That was it. But when I saw The Evil Dead II I knew I had to know more about the crazy person who made that movie.

And thus began, in earnest, my love affair with movies (especially trashy ones).

I own the Evil Dead 1 and 2 book of the dead editions. They are awesome, one of them screams when you push its eye in haha

One of the best movie series ever. Wish they would make a new Evil Dead.

Got to love ol' Henrietta. :lol

Played by the lovable Ted Raimi, Sam's torture thing.

The dvd's also have the best commentary too.

I have 3 versions of Evil Dead 2.

out of all of them only caught 2 thus far, and it was great
It's the best one!

I also encourage everyone to check out the commentary tracks for each movie, especially the ones including Campbell. Lots of great trivia in there. :)

Hail to the King!

The Evil Dead series rocks.

Evil Dead 1 - Is a super low-budget amateur movie that rocks. It took them a long time to make since they ran out of money.

Evil Dead 2 - Relatively low budget re-make of Evil Dead . . . and it is great. That scene of him fighting his hand is great. Surround sound is highly recommended.

Army of Darkness - A Hollywood budget Evil Dead follow-on that loses some of the charm of the two earlier low budget films. But it is still a great film that feature more of the splatstick humor of Raimi and Bruce Campbell.

Love those films. I've got a Book of the Dead DVD that was signed by Bruce Campbell at E3. :D

Definitely my favorite as well. Movie is awesome.

Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick! The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that?
